Is Columbus the most significant European in history? What effect did he have on the world?
Columbus is not the MOST significant European in history because there were more significant European than him. For example, Marco Polo who brought idea and culture from the East to the West. Or Newton who discover the gravitation, it affect the understanding of human about the Earth. Also Henry VIII who somewhat reformed the art, culture, the church and education which have influenced modern world right now. If you say “but Columbus was explorer so you cannot compare those”, well I would say most important European isn’t mean explorer, it can be any jobs else. However, I cannot refuse his significant and impact he had to the world. He “discovered America” and kicked off centuries of exploration and exploitation on the American continents. Yes, he does important and significant but not the MOST. Every single person had their own important so we cannot say someone is the most important and significant. For example, if we say Christopher Columbus is the most important, so how about Vasco da Gama. Christopher trade goods from America to Europe like sugar, rice, coffee, horses,... and Vasco trade spices, the most important things in the world. If Vasco didn’t exist, there would be no spices in Europe. But if Columbus didn’t exist, there would be no horse in Europe. You may think Columbus is more important than Vasco, but it only happenbecause American is the central house right now
How did he treat the native people?
He forced the natives to search for gold, and if they didn’t give him gold, he gonna cut off their heads or hands. Moreover, one of the most famous thing he did was enslave and rape the natives he met, sold girls (as young as nine by his own account) into prostitution, and committed numerous acts so heinous.
Should he be judged by our moral standards?
Definitely not! To judge to be our moral standards, he needs 2 things. Good behavior and does important. He had one, but not two. His behavior wasn’t count as a human (that is all I could say). Look back what he did to the Mesoamerica and give me feedback if I’m right or wrong.(it’s on the top)
Similarities and differences to Genghis Khan?
Similarities:- they killed a lot of people, both were cruel.
- They were important to the world
Difference: -one was Asian and one was European
-although Genghis Khan was cruel but it was only for the people who against him. He was very tolerant for the one who didn’t against him, especially, he treated women as same as men. However, Christopher Columbus treated people badly, especially the natives
What did you learn/How has your thinking changed/evolved (positive, negative, surprising, etc.) about Columbus?
I learn that a Columbus’s behavior doesn’t affect his significance and he did some really bad things like cut off head to the Natives. Well my thinking doesn’t change much, it’s pretty much the same from the beginning, in the negative way. Meaning that I still think that Columbus is bad, doesn’t the most important, blah blah blah, still negative ways.

Columbus, An Angel in Disguise

no more 2010 memes.. only 2019 memes that are dank and not dead
*clap* *clap* Columbus Review. Welcome everyone to History class’s favorite show, Columbus Review. It is slightly on the progressive spectrum, politically-speaking but that’s fine because chuckles we all know Ricky’s a Democrat since the beginning right?
First off is some questions about Columbus, mostly whether his actions were justified or not.
First question: Is Columbus the most significant European in history?
Me and the boys when we wanna find a new route to India.
Debate PTSD Well I’ll try to be least biased here. I would have to say, no he’s not the most significant European in history. To first answer the question, we must have a definitive meaning of “significant”.
Significant
1. sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy
So when someone is “significant” that means he or she is important and is worthy of your attention. Example, President Donald Trump. He’s president of the US and has a lot of power over the country. Now this may seem like conservative propaganda, but that is true. He is important due to America being a powerhouse right now and that enhances his power. So in the end, i̶t̶ ̶d̶o̶e̶s̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶m̶a̶t̶t̶e̶r̶ he is “significant”.
Sorry that was my old self relapsing into song lyrics.
So is Columbus important? As I have stated earlier, he isn’t. But why? There are 1 main reason why. What’s that one reason? There are more important people than him.
Example: Julius Caesar.
Although he was stabbed at the end of his life, that doesn’t mean he’s not important.
He had a behemoth of a legacy. An example would be the decline of the Roman republic and the rise of the Roman empire. He also formed the First Triumvirate, which basically is the trifecta of the Roman political world. Let’s also not forget that he was a prominent conqueror during that time, conquering Gaul, Italy, Spain and most of Europe.
Conclusion is, he is extremely influential as he laid the foundations of the Roman Empire and because of that, many things exist today such as Roman numerals, the Julian Calendar, and the roads that lasted for more than 1800 years so that’s quite a long time.
Conclusion to this question: There are more important people than Columbus such as people like Julius Caesar.
On to the 2nd question: What effect did he have on the world?
Some people in debates argue that it was Leif Eriksson who discovered America. But there’s one problem.
He wasn’t influential.
Columbus was however. He did tell everyone in Europe about America and did spread the “news”. So what effects did he have on the world? He connected two large landmasses, the Americas and Afro-Eurasia. He started the Columbian Exchange and because of the Exchange, we have many things now such as bees, livestock, and of course diseases.
Although his actions were not justified by today’s standards, he did start the Columbian Exchange and told everyone in Europe about America.
Alright boys, 3rd question: How did he treat the native people?
To quote a fishy website called progressive.org, here is their statement about how Columbus treated the Indians.
“Doing as he wished, Columbus and his crew brought disease, stole precious resources and ultimately wiped out many indigenous island tribes, all in the name of claiming this side of the globe as the “new world”.”
So Columbus and his boys brought disease, took resources, and took down many island tribes. And the reason behind it? To claim that side that he called the “new world”.
Aight boys, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. 5th question is: Should he be judged by our moral standards? Why?
Simple answer: no.
Long answer:

The answer is easy. He shouldn’t be judged by our moral standards because our standards are based on others standards. And others standards are based on the time we are at right now. For example: back then, raping others would be the only way for us to reproduce. But now, raping can be as bad as a first-degree felony and could end in 20 years in jail and 25,000 dollars lost.
In the past, you could just walk out of the crime scene and not get charged. But now, its a lot different from the past. That’s why I don’t think he should be judged my our standards.
Another question down, a few more to go: What are similarities and differences between him and Genghis Khan.
Well let’s address the elephants in the room. They are both conquerors, one in Europe and the other in Asia. They both are cruel to their “enemies”, whether they are indigenous tribes or their literal enemies. I read from a suspicious site that Genghis Khan would pour liquid silver into his enemies eyes and ears.
And we all know what Columbus did. He chopped Natives’ hands, ears, and noses if they didn’t obey.
So do they have any differences? First of all, Columbus traveled to new land and Genghis Khan took land. Secondly, Columbus went to America and Genghis stayed in Asia and possibly a bit of Europe. Thirdly, 2 pictures. One of Columbus and one of Genghis Khan.

See the difference?
Genghis Khan is thicc and Columbus isn’t.
Alright bois that’s almost the last question. The last one is here..: How was your thinking changed/evolved (positive, negative, surprising, etc.) about Columbus?
Well initially for me I thought he just a guy who discovered America and famous because of that, but now that I learned more about him. His history is pretty messed up. But that doesn’t change the fact that he discovered America and told everyone in Europe about it.
So my opinion on him is still the same, neutral.
Oh blyat, that was a long ass assignment. Anyways everyone, that was Columbus Review, the most popular show in History class.

Anna Hoang’s blog
Christopher Columbus, a lot of people might agree to him but there’s also a lot of them totally disagree. To me, he is significant but not the most significant.
So 1st, He did effect a lot on the world. He brought a new trade, where Europeans can trade vegetable and supply that they’ve never had before. Also, though, there were already people that discover America but he was the first person to give out the words. He had to change the education because back then people education was based on European. If that was the only thing he did then there wouldn’t be a debate about him. He had done a lot of influential work but how he treated the native were seem unacceptable. He makes them contribute to him something, if they did, he would give them a token. From that point, they have3 months of freedom. If after 3 months and they didn’t contribute then 1 of their arm would be chopped off. I don’t really think he should be judged by our moral standard. The reason for this was that at different time, the moral standard would be changed for a different generation. For example, killing people back then weren’t as serious as the modern day. But still, already at that time, a lot of people were against him. To compare him with Genghis Khan, they have a lot of similarities.
Genghis Khan and Columbus both created a debate over what they’ve influenced and their manners. Genghis Khan had formed a larges empire ever and developed his empire. Similar to that, Colombus also “discover” the new world, he also developed it and create a large influence. Both of them both are important but the way they treated to people are cruel. Colombus made 8 million people died after his discovery. So in general, they are all important but cruel. Are they acceptable compare to what they did are still a subject for people these days to talk about?
Lastly, this will be my own opinion on Colombus specifically. To me, for sure, he is an important person.
If he didn’t develop America then I have a chance not to be in this school right now. Also, American’s education was based on Europeans so he was very important. Furthermore, he found a new trading path. But then I really disagree with how he treated people. He can think of another way to develop this place.

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS BLOG-MaryP
Hi guys, I’m here to complete the final assignment about Christopher Columbus. So, I’m gonna answer a bunch of questions below:
Let’s start with the first question: Is Columbus the most significant European in history?
This question is quite hard and debatable. In my opinion, he is a very important European, but he isn’t the MOST significant European ever. The reason for my thought is very simple: There are lots more influential and important than him, such as Julius Caesar, Henry VII, Joan of Arc, Einstein, Mozart, etc… Another reason for this is in this world, I think no one is the most important because they all have different achievements and sometimes, they might not be related to each other, so we can’t really compare them.
For the second question: What effect did he have on the world? He definitely left great impacts, especially modern day when the US is the powerhouse of the world. He “discovered” the whole continent of America. He also brought spices, ideas, cultures, animals, disease from America to Europe and create Colombian Exchange. He made big transition from the “old world” to the “new world”.
The answer for the third question is too obvious: He treated the Natives so terrible like animals. He forced them to tribute their properties to the Spanish or else they would be killed and be examples for others. He put them in slaves and traded them for money. They seemed less human because they weren’t Christians, so he forced them to believe in Jesus Christ. And also, he shouldn’t be judged by our moral standards because our standard today is totally different with how it was during Mesoamerica time. People in that time thought differently from us right now, it was more savage and stricter. Therefore, we shouldn’t judge him by our moral standards.
There are some similarities and some differences between Christopher Columbus and Genghis Khan. They are both very famous for their conquests. They both killed lots of people but both left massive effects on the world. However, they were from different continents and famous for different accomplishments. Columbus was famous for “discovering” America and trading slaves, creating Colombian Exchange, while Genghis Khan was famous for conquering, and discovering new lands.
From these assignments about Columbus, I learnt a lot of things. First of all, I had never learnt about him specifically. I also never know he is a very bad guys. I learnt about Colombian Exchange and his impacts.
I’m done!! Thanks for reading my blog. (Sorry if it’s boring!!)

Yo Muffins! Since I’m ‘legally’ not allowed to call y’all Skittles, y’all now muffins.

It’s a me. A and here’s a long rant about how Columbus is not the most important European.
Columbus is not the most important European ever, though I do acknowledge that he is important, he isn’t he MOST important. He “discovered” America but even if he didn’t, someone else would have discovered it, hypothetically. He is so important that people have a day for him, but that day is slowly disappearing off the map. Then if you take Ferdinand Magellan, who had 2 of the closest galaxies named after him because he’s that important, Columbus is bland in favor of Magellan.

He might have discovered the current powerhouse in the world but he didn’t help developed it. When he started, he was one of the worst rulers, he was soo bad that it was the reason his men rebelled against him when he came back. There are multiple different people helped developed the country with the likes of Joan of Arc and Lafeyette. One which was deemed the “maiden of New Orleans” and was the heroine of France for her role during the Lancastrian. Then there was Lafeyette who was the key that America used to win the American revolution. They both left huge marks in history that made even Columbus roll in his grave. Their actions were backed up by their people because of how courageous they were.

Then their was Columbus who treated the Natives as if they were animals to the point where even his men disagreed with his actions and rebelled against him. That just shows how many people actually supported his morals back then.

Some may compare him to Genghis Khan who was the founder of the Great Khan of the Mongol Empire which shouldn’t be a thing because how can the compare Genghis Khan, someone who had created one of the greatest empire in the world to Christoper Columbus, someone who committed mass genocide and supported pedophilia. Even if they both have done countless of violent acts but Genghis Khan actually have a heart to kill only when opposed, he spared those who surrendered and accepted them with generously to his empire. Columbus was a big fan of raping young girls and before they even landed on Hispano, he gifted his men with serval females to do whatever they wanted with. Now in modern days, lots of people around the world finally learns what Christoper Columbus really did. He only gets the attention because historians are more focus on the current powerhouse, and he didn’t play any important role in the building of America. That’s why Christopher Columbus isn’t the most important European ever.
Y’all KNOW who I’m talking ‘bout.

Columbus Blog, Vlog or Pod - Angel 7A
Hola mi nombré Angél speaking. Today, I’m going to write a blog answering several questions mostly about Christopher Columbus. Another blog, I know, but sometimes you just need to get your life together.
Ok let’s get into this because I'm being so irrelevant right now.
Warning: the memes might be stupid and not even funny.
Is Columbus the most significant European in history?
Well, this is a difficult question for me to answer because the question itself is very debatable but personally, I believe he is important but not the most the most significant European because in our history, there are many more Europeans that are also as important such as Marco Polo, Isaac Newton, Galileo, Shakespeare, Einstein, and more. I think in this society, no one is the most important person or European because we’re working as a group and each of us has different developments, achievements that help contribute to the world that are all important not just focus on one individual.
What effect did he have on the world? How did he treat the native peoples?
His effect on the world is massive. He inserted America into world history by his exploration. He helped to bring new developments to the world by transferring new plants, animals, cultures, humans, ideas, technologies, diseases between the “old world” and the “new world” which is known as the Columbian exchange. If he did not discover the trading route or America, the most economically powerful country, USA, would have never been born. Same as the foods, cultures we have right now, would have not been spread out to the world at all.
He treated the native people very badly in horrible ways such as slaughtering, kidnapping, enslaved thousands of them and even forced them to convert to Christianity. Moreover, he created a tribute system that forced the natives to pay tribute and caused them fear and pressure. Nice move.

Should he be judged by our moral standards? Why?
In my opinion, I think he should not be judge by our moral standards because back them it was different and stricter comparing to todays. However, even if we don’t judge him, he’s still unacceptable back then due to the bad things that he did. But I think we should judge him based on his significance not his character.
Similarities and differences to Genghis Khan.
Columbus has some similarities with Genghis Khan by the trading route, conquest and their characteristics. They both get judged by how aggressive, intense and careless they are. Although they are both known as bad guys but in the end of the day, they’re still very significant.
They also have some differences too like Genghis Khan is known for conquering lands and trades in Asia and Columbus known for his exploration and “discovery” of America and bring new developments back to Europe and then spread it to other parts of the world.
What did you learn/How has your thinking changed/evolved (positive, negative, surprising, etc.) about Columbus?
I did learn a lot more about him to be honest. I didn’t know how he was very important and learned how to not just look at his bad sides, character from the outside. Without him, many things would be different and may not be as advanced as it is today. Therefore, we should all appreciate and be grateful for the things he brought for us.

Ok thanks for reading this freekin long blog and I know that no one is ever going to make it down here except for Mr.Matt but whatever. It is late and its time for me to leave and suffering more, thanks for dealing with me. :)

Sarah-Columbus blog

Class: 7A
In my opinion, Columbus isn’t the most significant European in history because he is only famous for “discovered” America and spread the world back to Europe. There are many more Europeans who also contribute a lot to the mankind such as Charles Darwin, who discovered the theory of evolution, Bartolomeo Cristofori, who invented the piano, Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the printing press and enable books for all people from different classes. Columbus may be the most important people in his field, which is exploration, but in other fields such as music, how can he compare with Bach, Beethoven or Mozart? And in science, would you ever compare Charles Darwin, Galileo Galilei, or Isaac Newton to Columbus? No, that’s why I think that Columbus isn’t the most significant European.
Although Columbus isn’t the most important European, he definitely left a great impact on the world. He may not be the one that discovered America, but he was the one that actually spread the words back to Europe. That way, he indirectly led to the creation of one of the greatest countries in the world, The United State of America. Also, when he “discovered” America, he caused the Columbian exchange. Animals, foods, ideas, diseases, people… things that had never exist on the other part of the world, had now been traded.
As you know, everything has two sides, Columbus did have a good impact on the world, but he also slaughtered almost all Native American. When Columbus first arrived on Hispaniola, the Natives there greeted him with hospitality that he mistook it as a sign of weakness. That’s why he enslaved the Natives, made them work for him, fed him and his troops, he also set up a tribute system. The tribute system made the life of the Natives even worse, basically, the Natives gave Columbus cotton, gold, food, in exchange for a coin, which will be wear on their neck to identify to already gave the tribute. If not, that person’s hands will be cut off.
I don’t think that Columbus should be judged by our moral standard because it was totally different at that time and nowadays. But even if we don’t judge him base on our moral standard, the things Columbus did was also not acceptable at that time. He came to a new land, home of the Natives, and just killed them all for not obeying him, not a Christian, and didn’t look like European.
I think that Genghis Khan and Columbus were very similar, they both kill a lot of people, were both very famous in a different continent, both made a large impact on the world. But Genghis Khan was a warrior, while Columbus was just an explorer, Genghis Khan was famous for conquering lands, while Columbus was famous for his “discovery” of America. After the debate, I learn that although Columbus wasn’t the first one to find America, he was the one that indirectly helps to shape part of the world today. Without him, maybe we wouldn’t have a continent called America. But I also hate Columbus because he killed so many people just for his own good, he started the slave trade and caused thousands of people to suffer and taken away their freedom and families.

Christopher Columbus Blog
By Sofia Costa 7A
Christopher Columbus a man that we learn in school for being a brave and strong explorer that “discovered” America. Though this statement can be correct in some parts in others it can be a false statement. Columbus sure was brave and strong he inspired many explorers that came after him. He even gave our ancestors a chance to come to America and start their life again and have a better life. But also there is a bad side of Columbus. He wasn’t the actual one who discovered America since the vikings came there way before he did. Also when he came there he spread so many diseases and wiped out 90-95 percent of the Natives. Even though the story is two sided. Is he the most significant European if history?
I think no, because what Christopher Columbus did didn’t really have a big affect on Europe. Instead it really only affected Spain. Since Columbus had discovered a new continent the wealth of America started pouring into Spain. Spain started becoming more powerful and rich. Also other countries in Europe made their own teams to explore the New World . Europe also benefited by the large amounts of natural resources. But to me their were way more people who impacted Europe in different ways instead of just the resources they brought. A good example could be Julius Caesar he distributed land to the poor. Statues and temples were built to honor him. Even a whole month was named after him (Julius but changed to July). But sadly on March 15th, 44 BCE Roman dictator Julius Caesar was assassinated.
Another person who had really affected the world was Genghis Khan a Mongolian barbarian that killed millions of people if they were in his way but also conquered parts of Asia and China. Their were many similar things that Genghis Khan and Christopher Columbus share. Like for instance they both conquered lands even though Genghis Khan conquered lands more in the eastern and northern hemisphere (Asia) and Columbus conquered America. Genghis Khan killed cities filled with people and also raped them and Columbus killed islands filled with Natives some he raped and others he turned into laborers.
A thing that is quite obvious to the people who studied both of them are that Columbus wasn’t a ruler only a leader of his voyage that still needed permission of Spain, also he was also sent to prison for the rest of his life after his voyage since many disagreed with him. But a ruler would’ve had a more control and the chance of a ruler going to prison would be lower. While Genghis Khan ruled an entire empire he could’ve done whatever he wanted and no one could disagree since he was the ruler. But when talking about who did more impact to the world without hesitation I would say Columbus. Even though he wasn’t the nicest person he brought us most of the food that we eat now like tomatoes, potatoes , corn and the list goes on. Without him I don’t think we would even have any of this education. But Genghis Khan on the other hand didn’t really impact the world like how Columbus did. He only influenced some Turkic based dynasties.
I know that probably back then killing thousands of people like what Columbus did was considered to be normal. But nowadays it isn’t you don’t commonly see people killing thousands of people. I think that we should actually judge Columbus because of his moral standards because in general killing innocent people is wrong. Killing people back then might be a normal thing but every person knows that killing someone that didn’t do you any harm is bad. That was exactly what Columbus did.
But still I feel that without him the world would be so different from now.

Columbus Blog, Vlog or Pod - Tifany
Hallo, ich heiße Hans und ich bin ein Zug.
I’m just kidding, my name is Tifany and today I will be answering the questions listed below:
Is Columbus the most significant European in history? What effect did he have on the world? How did he treat the native peoples? Should he be judged by our moral standards? Why? Similarities and differences to Genghis Khan. What did you learn/How has your thinking changed/evolved (positive, negative, surprising, etc.) about Columbus?
Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?
The first question is very debatable. I personally think he is. His effects on the world was tremendous, like the Colombian Exchange, the colonization and exploration of America, etc... He caused the beginning of the modern world of technological advances.
Without him, the USA would have never existed and the expansion of the western frontier would have never started. Without him so many things would have never existed.
The third question is definite. He treated them horribly, returning their hospitality with aggression and killing the natives. He would further create the tribute system which is based mostly on fear and would punish the people who wouldn’t pay tribute monthly.
I think he should not be judged by the content of his character but by the significance of the events he set in motion. The moral standards back then was stricter than today, with many unjust restrictions. Today’s moral code is more free and developed.

Christopher Colombus and Genghis Khan has some similarities. Like their urge for conquest and discovery. They are both known to be harsh and sometimes unforgiving. They also have some differences, like how Colombus have an almost complete disregard of his subjects while Genghis Khan gave rights to all his subjects, male or female or natives alike.
I learned more of his tyranny through the study of his character and the significance of said character. I also learned more about the system he created and the things he set in motion.
That’s it, folks. Good bye

Movie review:Apocalypto-Linh7B
The movie was very good in many ways. It was pretty disgusting to see human sacrifice but that is just the norm of their society. This movie state out pretty much what Mesoamerica is. I wouldn’t recommend people to watch this if they have heart attack because there were many scene with taking the heart out. Honestly these are pretty disgusting. The movie is about the main character name is Jaguar Paw. He is a hunter in the forest with his tribe. Another tribe came and raided the village and enslave woman and sacrifice men. They are the Mayan so the god they believe in was the Sun god. They were desperate because crops are not growing, weather are bad and etc. They turn to the god and believe that if the sacrifice human blood to the Sun god, they will get benefits. This make them become “frenzy”. An solar eclipse happens when Jaguar was about to be sacrifice, #perfecttiming. they ended the sacrifice and release them. But a twist to this release would be you have to survive when escaping because the people will try to shoot you. It set out to be Jaguar escaping, going back to his family but also saw Spanish people start to bring people to Mesoamerica. The movie show the things that happens when village raid each other, prophecies, what they believe and how this civilization ended; by the Spanish. I would recommend people to watch this movie if they like horror movie and action. In some country this movie is rated 14 or 13+. In my opinion the movie was splendid in the acting, the effect and in the content. I would just wish there would be less blood because most of the time I would cover my face because it was very bloody.

APOCALYPTO BLOG REVIEW Shen
Well, this movie overall is a hella good movie. It shows pretty much very clear about the Mesoamerica. It is a gory movie, would not suggest people who have a “child” brain to watch this. Ehh, I think it is normal for us all because we watched horror movies (nice). The movie is basically, about the main character, named Jaguar Paw, escaped from the Mayan civilization. While he and his family get out on a hunting journey, there was a tribe that got invaded by the Mayan. One of his brothers ate a pig’s balls because he can’t give birth, right before this event. Now, Jaguar got infected by the feeling of “afraid’’. Later, the Mayan invaded his tribe. His pregnant wife and son stayed hidden by getting down in a well. The rest got caught and brought to a sacrificing temple for the sun god. Their ritual was blood is a “fee” for the gods. The male prisoners’ hearts would get sacrificed. Females would get sold in markets. If the prisoners couldn’t be sold, they would be set free, but they will be homeless. After when some prisoners got sacrificed, there was an eclipse, which ended the scarification. They will be released afterward, but they would need to be ALIVE to escape because they needed to avoid the arrows from archeries. Then, the Jaguar dude managed to escape, and head back to his wife. After fights with the enemy, he won them all and saved his wife. Then, the Spaniards arrived at the coast as well. #end_of_the_life_of_the_AMERICAass Then the movie end, he has 1 more baby!!! Well, my opinion part: The movie is very decent. The effects it has is hella good! This movie is gory but it is true about the past. It had always been like this in the past. We made so many jokes out of this, by relating it to Avengers. I still don’t understand why the dude who ate the balls of a pig is that stupid. He ate balls of pigs and put pepper on his penis! I strongly suggest people who like action movies to watch this thing. It is full of action and blood.

Apocalypto Review-Lex 7B
Hey hello there, thank you for taking your time to read what the heck I have to say! I appreciate it a lot. Last class, my classmates and I watched a movie called “Apocalypto” by Mel Gibson. This movie was breathtaking, exciting, disgusting, and terrifying at the same time, yay! It started off with the Mayans hunting animals, and it introduced us to the main character, Jaguar Paw (this guy is dope af) and his father Flint Sky, the leader of the tribe. Then we get to see their village, where the people live happily together. We now know little bit more information about Jaguar! He has a child and a wonderful wife who is pregnant with a second one. One night, they got attacked by another tribe nearby. They captured all the people in the village, including Flint. Jaguar’s wife and child was trapped inside a hole with no cover at the top, but somehow, the other tribe didn’t see her. Now that’s what I call Movie Logic. Jaguar also got captured and had to see a terrifying scene of his dad getting killed (so sad). Sooo Jaguar and his tribe was brought back to the “uninvited” tribe’s city/town. The uninvited tribe was ruthless. They kill people that don’t follow their demands without any mercy. That’s exactly why there’s a lot of blood in this movie...They were brought back for slave purposes and to be sacrificed to the gods. They were all painted with blue paint and ready to be sacrificed. Jaguar had to witness his peoples’ heart getting pulled out and their head getting chopped off and roll down the incredibly long staircase like a bouncy ball. When it’s Jaguar’s turn, the solar eclipse happened right when his heart was about to be cut out. WOW, what a coincidence! Oh yeah, I forgot he’s the main character, he can’t die this early! Everyone was shocked. No one has seen anything like this before. They were cheering and hugging each other (probably they thought it was a good sign from the gods or sumthin). Jaguar and his people don’t have to be sacrificed anymore, instead, they now have to run and doge the arrows from Zero Wolf, which happens to be the wannabe Hawkeye in this movie. Jaguar manage to doge all the arrows (again, he’s the main character, so he can’t die) and killed one of the dudes from the uninvited tribe as well. Jaguar escaped and ran back to his family, while the uninvited tribe runs after him for revenge (cuz he killed the dude from the tribe). Because Jaguar is a hunter, he knows how to set up traps to kill the tribe, like when he goes hunting for animals. He ended up killing all of them with his traps and saved his family from that stupid hole! The Spanish slowly arrived at the end and marked a new chapter of history! For me, I think this movie was extremely interesting. I got to learn and see how things were back in the old days and how they were so into sacrificing humans...I still have chills. The effort that's put in to make this movie is just amazing. The graphics was pretty good, and this movie was premiered in cinemas like in 2006 so *clap clap* for them. The movie is good for people whose interest in these kinds of topic, I'm 100% sure they’ll love this movie. Great plot, I absolutely love the actor who played the main character, overall an enjoyable movie for me. I’ll give it a 7/10. Too much blood for me...and too many rolling heads shenanigans. Kayyy thank you, I didn’t expect to write this much but heh, the longer the better right 😉 lmao

Apocalypto-Tom Tran 7A
THE MOVIE WAS AMAZING for the first sentence:). The movie is fascinating because all the realistic scene they were able to capture at the moment was fantastic. ALSO, ONE NOTE FOR THE WHOLE CREW THAT WAS IN THE MOVIE, WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO GOOD AT CAPTURE GOOD ANGLE AND BRAVERY MIND TO FILM THAT BLOOD STUFF AND KILLING AHHHHH. Furthermore, they really capture that ancient Maya vibe but please MAKE THE MOVIE PG 13 because while watching the movie, I was wondering how can I go take a shower, watching tv alone, and SLEEP ALONE TODAY. In addition, that particular scene of DA PEOPLE SACRIFICE BLUE HUMAN FOR THE GOD OF SUN, THAT HAUNT ME UNTIL THIS MOMENT RIGHT HERE WRITE THE BLOG ABOUT THIS.hello darkness smile friend. There is some part that I so SCARE THAT I HAVE TO COVER MA EYES WITH MAI HOODIE AND HER HAIR. Sometimes my mom usually said to me that “Don’t watch horror or thriller movie if you are to scare, any genre” But now I fail my mom, I watch a movie that would haunt for the rest of school, university, work, even with my freaking kid. I think that the main character which I don’ t know the name of having a weird romantic vibe sometimes he wants to save his lover but also he doesn’t, so that sequence just keeps going around. For conclusion, the movie was pretty good 10/10 would recommend for people wanna haunt themselves for the rest of their life, in my opinion the movie should make it pg 13 for some kid that scare about LIKE ME, so yeh that’s it. YEETTTTTT BYE;))))))))))))

Apocalypto (2006) movie review Hyeseung 7A

“Apocalypto” was released in 2006, by Mel Gibson, it’s a movie which performed the history of the Mayan civilization with an extreme thrill and brutality. This movie starts in the early 1500s, when the Mayan people wildly sought for the ‘volunteers’ to sacrifice to their god. A village where Jaguar Paw, a man with his pregnant wife and their little son were living, was attacked by another Mayan kingdom people inhabited near their residence. The hunters ruthlessly killed the villagers, raped women, and captured the rest of people back to their kingdom either for laboring or sacrificing. Meanwhile, Jaguar’s wife and his son was trapped under the pit hole to hide. When villagers arrived at the hunters’ kingdom, they witnessed the other laborers building lots of temples by limestone. If a person was wearing blue paint on their body, that person was inferred as a victim of sacrifice for the ritual, and Jaguar was one of them. When his turn to die had come, the solar eclipse excluded him and rest of the captives from sacrifice. Instead, they had to be the targets of Zero Wolf practice; practicing the accuracies for hunting. However, Jaguar manages to kill one of the tribes and escapes toward his home. In the chase from the hunters, Jaguar happens to defeat all the tribes and reunite back with his family. But then at the end of the movie, Spanish ship marches towards their land, implying the demise of the Mayan civilization.
I considered that “Apocalypto” can be in one of the movie bucket-lists, especially for those people who have learned about Mesoamerican cultures before. The movie supported on filling up the missing details I haven’t learn before. The language in the movie followed the custom of how Mayan people spoke back in the past, so it’s quite interesting to hear their language through the uniqueness. It also made me realize how important the religions were to Mayan people in the past through what they had committed for the god. Plus, the movie enabled me to change the stereotype about the Mayan people’s civilization. My past thought about their culture was not this much cruel and brutal, however in the movie, they acted harsher than I thought. Especially on those scenes where the ritual took place or people’s bodies were penetrated. Pretty much scenes were like these, so I had to avoid looking at the screen which bothered me during the movie. Although it shocked me, the movie was still a source where I can know more about the Mayan people. So just give a try on this cultural-shoking movie if you haven’t tried it yet!

Apocalypto- Mayan Movie
By: Sofia Costa 7A
Summary of the Movie…
The movie we watched in class was mainly about a Mayan tribe fighting with each other sounds boring but actually it’s not even boring. At the beginning everything was fine and seemed happy. But then another part of the Mayan tribe attacked they killed a lot of people, raped most women until they died. Some people were brought back to the Mayan land and they were either sold to become slaves or killed to sacrifice to god.
Just when they tried to kill the main character an eclipse appeared the Mayan took this as a sign of the gods and didn’t kill the main character and all the people that they just brought. But instead they had to run until they pass a corn field without getting hit by arrows and if they didn’t die because of the arrows they will be finished off. But when it came to the main character he killed the finisher making all the Mayan men mad. The main character then got chased by the Mayan men because the finisher was the son of the Mayan ruler.
They chased him into a jungle and he realized that they all had weapons but he didn’t have any. That didn’t scare him he decided to use the things he could and turn them into weapons for example a frog’s poison. Most of the Mayan died but two had survived and had chased him until they all reached the beach. That’s when they saw ships from Spain all scattered around their sea. The two Mayan men didn’t kill the main character but just slowly walked away. The main character when then reunited with his wife that was just in labor and his two children. The wife asked if they should go speak to the people in the ships but the main character refused. That’s how the movie ended.
My thoughts on this movie…
There was a part where the main character almost died but I think that to the Mayans an eclipse is a sign of god and that is what showed up when the main character was almost killed. So all the rest could survive in that one condition. To me and to I think most people it is very cruel to chop someones head off just to sacrifice to god. Especially to me I am not religious and do not believe in god I think it shouldn’t have been done.
Obviously as everyone can see the main character is a very smart person that puts everyone else before him just like at the beginning when the tribe attacks he could have went inside the cave with his wife and son but decided to help everyone else. He also used whatever he could find to make weapons and doesn’t freak out when he is pressured to jump off the waterfall to survive. After being chased by the Mayan and reaching the beach I think everyone then realized that they had made a huge mistake. Instead of fighting the same people they should have worked together to defeat Spain. But it was too late that is why at the end the two Mayan men didn’t kill the main character but just walked away.
