as a note, I’ve considered it for a bit but I’ll probably be a little bit more active on my sports animanga twitter, which has the same @ as this blog 🥹!! … a little bit…

I completed my first ever fanbook which I’ll be debuting next weekend at an upcoming con 🥹!!

It’s very much a DIY book, but I’m proud of myself for having completed it at all 😭 You can see WIPs of some of the pages on my HQ blog, @taskfocusing but I’ll post the full comic once the event is over ☺️

I’m also planning to insert more bonuses like postcards / stickers before the event but we’ll see if I get those done on time because lowkey I did this instead of some of the other prints I was supposed to finish oops 😗

I don't usually post WIPs here because I prefer to keep things on my main blog, but I figure since they're WIPs and I won't be posting the full comic until after my next event it should be okay to post a bit of my Iwaoi fanbook :')

I feel ilke the words will be more important than the illustrations, so they'll be a little rough but I'm liking how they're coming out so far hehe

Been thinking sm about Iwaoiisms but tbh my favorite parts of the new content are Akaashi vaguely threatening people to never prank Bokutosan and Bokuto learning the phrase “once in a lifetime” and applying it to things like “once in a lifetime potato chips” …. and Ushijima’s gap moeisms being on full display

i just found your blog and i love your analysis, but i'm curious how you feel about other pairings than the ones in your bio?? or ig other ships than the ones you ship in gen :0

aa thank you 😭,,!! If you're asking if I have other ships, I do!!

In general, I like quite a bit of ships, I just don't talk about them as much because they don't grab me as much as the ones listed HAHA

But for the characters involved w/ bkak and iwaoi, I primarily ship them with each other, so I probably won't discuss other dynamics involving them - this doesn't mean that I dislike other ships involving these characters though!!

Again, they just don't grab me as much so I probably wouldn't be able to conjure any meaningful insights 😭

There's so much I want to talk about wrt Iwaoisms tbh... Is it okay to make a list...

Firstly, Oikawa no longer seeing Japan as home and Iwaizumi confirmed to be living in California. I think that the former can be seen as its own thing - especially with Oikawa set on taking on the best players of his generation as their opponent - but I also like to think that with Iwaizumi also no longer living in Japan, it's easier for Japan to lose the sense of "home" to Oikawa.

Secondly, the bit about Oikawa "consulting" Iwaizumi prior to moving abroad. I know many people like to interpret this action as wanting Iwaizumi to ask him to stay (and I do think that this is a fun angle as well), but I personally like to see it as a moment where Oikawa is able to find relief in the fact that Iwaizumi will really support him no matter what. I don't think that he would have consulted Iwaizumi with the goal of "testing" how he would react, but moreso out of a sense of . Well, firstly, I think that he'd want Iwaizumi to know about his plans in general, they're close, and it wouldn't be right for him to go ahead without saying anything at all - But also wanting to confirm - whether consciously or not - that Iwaizumi would always be in his corner.

On that note, on Iwa's end while I also enjoy the angst and the pining approach, I do also like to think that his response to Oikawa's decision wasn't actually downplayed or that he was putting up a front -- rather, he was genuinely okay with the fact that he and Oikawa would be parting ways, and he's able to feel this way because he's very secure in the fact that no matter the time or the distance, he already knows what he means to Oikawa and vice versa.

I alluded it in my previous post, but Iwaoi strike me as a pair that can live their lives apart without fear because they know that they'll meet again. I think that the two are very conscious of the fact that they cannot grow if they aren't able to live as individuals first. I think this is very easy to understand if you look at Seijoh's tree/plant motif: seeds planted next to each other, growing side by side, but as their roots spread, they need to be careful not to become too entangled, or risk suppressing their growth. Their roots may be growing in different directions, but after they've fully spread, they'll have grown into two healthy trees standing side by side whose branches are now free to intertwine 🌱

LOL I mean I kind of get the initial gut reaction (I myself was a little disappointed in reading the initial interview) - I've actually secured a physical copy of the magazine and it'll be arriving soon, and i'm curious to read what the actual text was in JP

I think in the worst case scenario though (ie: the two are just not friends period) we could all just pretend not to see <3

It might also be hard to understand how the two might be considered friends if they aren't in frequent contact if you yourself don't have this lived experience, but it's actually pretty common for adults who live apart from their friends to not see or text each other very often 😭,,

I love my friends very much but sometimes due to work and other obligations I just don't have it in me to respond to their messages or regularly hit them up and vice versa - it doesn't mean that I don't still care about them, we just might be swamped and don't have the capacity to be social !!

I think Iwaizumi referring to Oikawa's mom as "Kaachan" is proof enough that they're fine hehe

on the recent iwaoi calamity

okay as funny as the divorce jokes are, i do think that there's a lot of catastrophizing regarding iwaoi due to the newest magazine interviews so here are two takes on it in varying flavors of delulu

starting with the more delusional take:

clearly they were both PR trained and there was no way iwaizumi was going to indicate that he and oikawa keep in touch when their dms are unhinged and they're swapping pics (insert whatever type you like) on the regular. they have to keep it lowkey lest the media find out that iwa has a crazy stash of oikawa gym pics. those aren't for anyone else they're for HIM ONLY!!

on a less delusional take:

they're both very busy people and it's natural for even close friends to "grow apart" due to different life circumstances - not to mention the two of them live in different countries.

HOWEVER, i do think that this is natural for iwaoi - they're the type of people who can return to one another whenever they like, picking up right where they left off -- they're secure in the fact that the other will always be there for them, no matter what, no matter how long it's been.

they're each other's home, even now, especially because neither is actually living in Japan (and let's not forget that Iwaizumi still calls Oikawa his rival, and that he still refers to Oikawa's mom as "Kaachan"!! Very cute!!)

that's why it's not hard for either of them to let the other live their lives. they both respect the other as an individual entity, and because they know that no matter the time or distance they're each other's one and only -- so it's okay if they aren't together in the present!!

yes, it's a little bittersweet to think that they aren't constantly together or even texting every day, however i think that once their lives settle down a little more, they'll reconnect.

.... in short, furudate is CLEARLY setting us up for old man iwaoi yaoi so please do not cry iwaoi nation!!!

I feel like a common misconception is that Akaashi tempers/manages Bokuto in some way, but that’s simply not the case. Bokuto is insane and Akaashi cannot get enough (because he’s also insane)

people posting caps of the official haikyuu colored manga and being shocked over akaashi’s brown eyes and i understand but the thing that prompted me to check was a comment mentioning that the manga wasn’t colored by furudatesensei and while that may be true..

.. sensei did give him brown eyes originally 😭😭

*in other illustrations though a grey ish color is used (if his eyes aren’t just colored in black)
