One part of the Sydney Sweeney eugenics ad no one is talking about is the part where she says genetics determine personality. Like thatās a big part of eugenics ā believing that āundesirableā or ādesirableā personality traits and intelligence levels are linked to certain races

"If you ever listen to my old albums ... which, don't," she says. But she points out that even back then, her pop albums dabbled in various genres - folk, country, R&B, and even Eighties. "What I was really trying to do is what I'm doing right now, and what I think I accomplished with Short n' Sweet," she says. [x]

i've had time to think a little about it and now i understand my initial gut reaction of bewilderment and rejection at sabrina's new album cover. like yes sounds rich from Self Proclaimed Dog User smoothoperador teehee mans best friend tiny puppy BUTāļø i am not comfortable with it. i am not comfortable with the album cover of The global popstar of the moment depicting a woman on all fours in front of a man. and i know you're gonna say, "but it's sabrina!! she's tongue-in-cheek and sexual and has always been!! this is obviously satire!! she's for the girls!!" well first of all im sorry i've been familiar with sabrina's career since thumbs i like her and how fun she is but i NEVER understood the 'for the girls' allegations i don't know any current popstar who markets herself MORE to the male gaze than her. and second, the problem is that the album cover may be satire, i have no problem believing that, she's clever and that's her humor; but in a context where conservatism and misogyny are on the rise, and so is media illiteracy, satirical undertones are Lost on the immense majority of people. like men are gonna see this and not understand. theyre gonna assume it's played straight. because sabrina never subverts or defies or deconstruct her own position within the male gaze the same way, say, lana ('norman fucking rockwell and the male gaze' by claire heinzerling) and tate (purple lace bra) do. she just uses it as a springboard to make sex jokes and be lukewarmly controversial, while still retaining her status as a sex symbol and not alienating the male audience entirely. it's not the sex i take offense with (i was not born puritan thank godš«¶) but her exploration of it, or lack thereof. i don't know this is not well constructed or anything and i know im gonna get shit for this for being a fucking prude waah waah. but im sorry i just don't find it gratifying or empowering to see a woman consistently put herself in that position and never subvert or do anything with it

Anyway, I have no problem with Sabrina's outfits, her sexual innuendos...none of that. What I do have a problem with is her catering to a misogynistic cishet male audience (most likely right-wing) while trying to convince me sheās a feminist and that itās all tongue in cheek. In this particular case, this isn't a reference that punches up, but most definitely punches down. Itās not sexually empowering for women when it simply reinforces the status quo: that women are expected to be on their knees for men, submissive at all times, and thatās it. I've never seen male artists on their knees mimicking eating out a woman. It's always them getting head lol. So another woman on her knees for a man? Groundbreaking. Calling it kinky is laughable and it's coming from people who have no idea what kinks are (and to be clear i am prop kink/pro sex in general. I stand against puritanism now and forever) If she were the one wearing a strap and the man was on his knees in that image? Yeah, maybe Iād applaud. Anything that subverts the dynamic imposed on us by patriarchy. But her male audience would hate that. So referencing a problematic 1950s aesthetic just to reinforce patriarchal standards? Thatās not feminism. Like read the room maybe? If it were satire, it should have been clearly distinguishable from what it was supposedly critiquing. As it stands, itās not. Anyway, choice feminism got us here but Iām too tired to get into all that.

can we stop pretending sabrina carpenterās whole current era is anything other than male gaze-y and self objectifying?
Iām not clutching pearls over her new album cover, but itās not feminist or subversive just because a woman is doing it. it still undoubtedly panders to the patriarchy.

iām sure the music on sabrinaās album is going to be amazing but the cover and album name is certainly a choice. kind of hope she changes the cover tbh š

Im trying to decide if Im a lot more conservative than I want to be or if Sabrinaās new album cover is fucked up.
Like sheās a grown woman; she can do what she wants. I support women leaning into sexuality and provocative imagery. And thereās way worse stuff out there in music that I loveā¦
But looking at it makes me feel yucky.

sorry i meant the black dog. but i also think the alchemy either started as a matty song or was just one those the songs where she was randomly collecting lines over time and shaped it into a travis song
oh yeah black dog is matty. based on her outfit in the clipshe posted, she recorded it on june 22, which was right after the matty breakup
#for people who keep insisting itās a joe song#itās not#itās like wilful blindfold#itās very obviously about mh

This world is trying to trick me into thinking Botox is normal and self care and they absolutely cannot sway me into that mindset no matter how many girls-girls say if you speak against it you hate women - I love women and I will never ever tell them to inject stuff into their face to look younger or pretend it's cool and chill or normal
Plastic surgery is getting so popular people are starting to call stuff like this "minor" compared to what some people get done and I'm like no I don't think there's anything minor about it it's pretty drastic and pretty sad to me
