i’ve been following you for a couple of years, i knew about you from your christ illustrations, i love your take on biblical scenes and its moving how much genuine love seeps into your works

this question might be a bit personal, so feel free to ignore it. but how do you reconcile your queerness with your religion? as a lot of christian practitioners preach that homosexuality or “divergent” gender expressions are sinful. i would like to hear your point of view !

It's still an ongoing process of course, I always try to stay quiet in many conversations about this because I know I intrinsically have a lot of lessons I need to unlearn. But I think very early on when I was in my teens, I realized there was a fundamental disconnect between the teachings my church would impart and the actions they take. And in response to that, I think there's a part of me that clung on harder out of spite? In a you introduced me to an all loving god, I won't let you tell me he has exceptions kind of way. It's all very complicated I fear, and I've not fully reconciled everything. It still hurts to be around because I can't really leave and find a different community, but thankfully through all the questionable things I was taught, the importance of kindness and love stuck the hardest. For every time my pastor told me my kind was evil, my gay friends have held my hands, shown me love. My trans siblings have given me more love and grace than my pastors at school. Queer catholic friends who share my grief and anger. The love I'm given cannot be sinful. It doesn't turn dirty when turned on the wrong person. There's no line I draw between god and queerness, to me he created everything, and in turn gave me the ability to create. And he saw that it was good
