I like to make my life hell by maining healers. I’m usually the team healer, either Zen or Mercy lately
tbh I main support as well, Mercy or Lucio for me. I just can't deal with Zen's lack of mobility. Floating two miles an hour kills me.

Out of everything, he felt weak. Small. He had difficulties really thinking             and breathing but for the most part…the doctors really had said that he            was lucky. He knew that he shouldn’t be doing half as much as he was            right now, especially with this being his first actual heart attack. Maybe            it was the fact that he refused to show any symptoms to the girl before            him that was really keeping him from feeling as awful as he really did.
Even in such a place like this– one of sickness and deteriorating health–            he couldn’t allow himself to fully be relaxed. He was already too antsy            just laying here, waiting for another doctor to come in to ask him questions            to tell him that they’re going to need more samples of some kind of bodily            fluid. But Mikan…she gave him enough strength to really put a smile on            his face. As long as she was here, it was going to be just fine. That’s what            he kept telling himself.
“I, too, am glad to still be here! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.            Nothing will kill me as long as I have high spirits and strong will!”            Even he knew he wasn’t invincible, but it made him feel better to pretend            here and there– especially in situations like this. Maybe it would make            her feel better, too, to think that he couldn’t be killed even if it was by his            own body’s doing.
“Please do not cry! I am still alive and kicking, just because I am bound to a            bed for the time being doesn’t mean anything!” He knew that at some point,            those tears he was all too familiar with would come. It made him so sad to            know that she was crying for him. He wanted nothing more than to reach out            and wipe them away, let her know that everything really was going to be okay,            but he doesn’t get the chance to do so as she begins to check him over.
Feeling her hands on him as she made sure for herself that he was still alright            was…comforting. Sure, they were a little cold, but it was the fact that she cared            that warmed him to the core. As his hand just rests in her’s, Nidai leans back            against the bed, letting out a slightly wheezed sigh from deep within his lungs.            This was the most he’d done since he’d woken up and he’d barely done            anything. He can’t help but to feel pathetic in a way. A man so strong could            barely even lift himself to sit up for much longer than a few minutes without            the help of the hospital bed behind him.
“It is a shame. This is such bad timing….There is a game in the next few            days and I was preparing them for a win.” he comments softly, eyes cast            down to their linked hands. His fingers curl tenderly around her’s, finding            more comfort in the simple actions of their closeness. “There couldn’t be            a thing that I’d wish you’d bring, there is no need to feel sorry! I’m just            glad that you’re here with me– it’s comforting. I feel better already!            Your abilities really do surpass just your profession!” he says, trying            to lighten the mood with a small laugh and a grin.
Tumblr media
It was endearing just how positive Nidai remained even in such a dire situation. Mikan wanted nothing more than to protect him–laughable seeing as it was normally just the opposite. Mikan offered a slight smile, one hand raising to wipe at her eyes. “Sorry. I am just r-relieved.” It would have been odd if she hadn’t been crying–especially since they were so close. “I am still w-working on not crying as much…I still h-have a long way to go, but you have helped immensely in that regard.”
Ah, there he was, already thinking of those he had taken under his wing instead of focusing more on himself. It wasn’t surprising in the slightest–though she wished he would put his own health first for once, the thought didn’t strike her that perhaps he was doing it to keep his thoughts away from such a depressing subject. “Nidai, I am c-certain they will play well. If they l-listened to you and took your advice to heart there is no way t-they will lose. You are a second to none when it c-comes to coaching, for now just focus on recovering so you can get back out there sooner.”
Mikan smiled ever so slightly, looking at their hands for a moment. “I just wish I h-had been there for you in your moment of need, d-done something to actually help someone I care about instead of restocking a medicine cart.” She felt more than useless, what if she had been there for him? Could she have even done anything to help him? Vitals could be taken, an assessment perhaps, but getting her hands on what was integral to saving his life was not something she could just carry around at all times. Still, it pained her to be aligned in the medical field and be so…useless. She would find a way to make it up to him.
“You look…tired.” Mikan commented, studying him closely. It was hard to tell–he was amazing at keeping up appearances–but she could see a deepset fatigue. He had likely been through a lot of tests and poking and prodding before she had arrived after the ordeal with his heart. “S-should I quiet down so you can rest? I do not w-want you to be exhausted, sleep is good for the body, allows the body to repair itself and–…you…already know this.” Mikan corrected herself, so used to lecturing others that she had initially forgotten Nidai was no slouch when it came to knowledge regarding what would help an athlete recover–and adequate sleep was integral.

The text was almost instantaneous. She was coming. That was all Nidai           needed to feel a little more relaxed. Having Mikan around him would           surely help ease the feeling of frayed nerves that he got whenever he was           in the hospital like this. Despite the struggles at the beginning of their           friendship, Nidai was closest to none other than her, gladly referring to           her as his sister even though they shared no blood between them. All he           was going to have to do was wait here for her to arrive.
He feels guilty that he’s dragging her from work– she didn’t have to come           right this instant, but he knew that she would because that was just how           she was. It wasn’t but a few minutes after their brief exchange of texts           that Nidai realized that he hadn’t even told her the room number, then to           realize that he didn't even know the room number he was in. When he           had woken up, he had already been on the bed with everything hooked           up and the steady beeping of the heart monitor right next to him.
Hopefully, someone would walk by so he could ask them what number his           room was as the button that he could press for a nurse to come to him was           nowhere to be found (it was most likely hidden under his blankets). As he           waits there, the Coach drums his fingers against the plastic bumper of his           hospital bed, eyes watching the door like a hawk for anyone to open it and           tell him that either he had a visitor or that it was time to take his vitals.
Tumblr media
When the door finally does open, Nidai opens his mouth to ask about the            room, but quickly realizes that it’s Mikan as she enters the room.           Immediately his face lights up into a smile. “Do not apologize! I asked           for you to come here and I am glad to see you!"
And really, he was. She lifted his mood drastically by just showing up.           However, the questions that she ask make him sigh softly, a hand           coming up to rub at the back of his head as he stares down at his lap.           The soft tone of her voice towards the last guess hit the nail right on           the head. "No– no one tried to harm me…The doctors told me that            I suffered from a heart attack. Mild, but still very dangerous."
She was one of the only people that he had spoken to about the dirty           details of his heart condition. Sure– it may be common knowledge           that he suffered from a bad one as a child, but not so much that it           still affected him this badly in his day to day life.
As relieved as he was to see her, she was relieved to see him; such relief was short lived as he shared what had caused him to end up the hospital. For a moment the young woman was speechless, so many thoughts and ideas of what to say to comfort him, yet remain honest ran flitted through her mind but nothing seemed to fit the situation, to convey just how she felt.
She was silent as she reached out, taking one of his large hands between both of her own. The bandages wrapped around the palm of one of her hands didn’t allow her to really feel his hand, but the warmth that emanated from it was enough to once again reassure her just the slightest bit. He was alive. He was still there, with her. Though it was a heart attack he was still able to draw breath and just be around--and for now she would be thankful for small miracles.
“I...” She drew in a shaky breath. He was the one that had suffered a heart attack and here she was getting overly emotional--though for her it seemed to be the norm, even more so since she cherished his presence so. “I’m so glad you are s-still alive.” Her voice was scant audible, it came as no surprise that tears trailed down her cheeks as she gripped his hand tighter.
Though Mikan was often considered weak--and for good reason too--she had a remarkable ability to be strong for her patients; even though Nidai wasn’t a patient under her care she could treat him in a similar manner. Nidai had been her strength when she needed it--which was all too often--so she would do the same for him in this moment. “At l-least it was mild.” She gazed at his face, checking for any sign of facial drooping or weakness in either arm--both common side effects of a heart attack--but found nothing. For being unlucky enough to have a heart defect he was...lucky.
Tumblr media
“You will get through your t-time in the hospital and before you know it you w-will be back to coaching others.” She offered a shaky, but reassuring smile. “Just...please do not overexert yourself.” She regarded him with open concern, managing to look abashed after a few moments. “I am sorry, but...I forgot to ask if I should have brought you a-anything. I was so concerned it j-just slipped my mind. I promise to m-make it up to you as soon as you are out and a-about.”
She just hoped they would release him, what if the doctors and nurses feared he was only going to rapidly deteriorate in health from here and decide to keep him in the hospital for an extended period? She knew he would do anything in his power to prevent it--Nidai didn’t belong cooped up in a hospital. The place she felt was as close to a true home as she was ever going to get was a prison for the male, it wouldn’t be fair to him to keep him caged up even if he was only getting worse. Medicine could only delay the inevitable sometimes. Mikan stared blankly ahead as she thought this, brows furrowing ever so slightly as she gripped his hand.
Why did it have to be him--someone so honestly good and kind--that had to suffer so?

For once, everything seemed to be going smoothly. Mikan found a good rhythm when it came to balancing school and work--she’d finally been able to get an internship at a small long-term care facility so she could receive ‘official’ training when it came to bandaging wounds and caring for those in need...it seemed that all the times she had taken care of herself and those around her didn’t count for a thing--then again she hadn’t exactly spoken up about it either.
With how well things were going she should have known something bad was going to occur, if not to her then to someone she cared about at least. It wasn’t until she had read the text from Nidai--nearly dropping her phone in the process--that she realized this was the first bad thing to happen in quite some time.
Her ‘older brother’ in the hospital? Possibilities raced through her mind: an accident, a fight...his heart. That made her chest tighten as if in sympathy for his plight. She would rather it be near anything other than a complication with such a vital organ. As their friendship and trust had grown she had been privy to information about it, her medical knowledge allowing her to know almost as much as a doctor or nurse--almost as much as Nidai himself.
[Text to: N, Nidai]: I will be there right away!!
[Text to: N, Nidai]: Please do not do anything to overexert yourself and do as the doctors and nurses say!
With as much time as she had spent in the hospital in her youth and how she actively had sought an occupation in it before settling for her current one she knew the fastest route there. For once it was someone else she was racing there for instead of her own reasons.
Tumblr media
She was a common face to the secretary, managing to get the number to Nidai’s room with surprising ease. She didn’t even knock before entering the room.
“I-I am sorry to barge in like this.” Seeing him alive and awake made her pause enough to realize she was being rude. She bowed her head in apology, drawing closer to his bedside. “What happened? Are you injured? I did not even have a chance to ask about your condition, I was so c-concerned.” She was rambling, her soft voice hurriedly getting her words out in her worry. “Did a student try to h-harm you?” Her soft voice lowered even more, “Is it...your heart?”
@tearsandsyringes liked for a starter!
Tumblr media
It had hit out of nowhere. No one had expected it, especially not Nidai. He’d            been taking his medication every morning to make sure that he was fine to            go for another twenty four hours, that he could sit down and work his hardest            to make sure that those he’d taken under his wing would get what they need            to do and strengthen themselves. He had been out on a lacrosse field when            it had happened– one minute he was explaining to the team what he wanted            them to do, the next a searing pain was exploding behind his ribs and all            over his chest, making it hard to breathe. He had barely been able to wheeze            out the word ambulance before collapsing, out cold.
A heart attack. That’s what the doctors kept saying, but Nidai was having a            hard time fully believing it. They told him that if the paramedics had gotten            there any later, he would have died. They kept telling him that he should            feel lucky to be alive, and he was. He was here– still alive and kicking…            but he just couldn’t wrap his head around why. What had he been doing            wrong? What could he have possibly done differently that day than he’d            been doing every other day of his life? It had been months since his last            complications, things had really been starting to look up. Maybe had had            gotten a little careless– a little too into his job and it had been building up            into one big complication.
Nidai knew how this was going to go; he’d spent a good portion of his young            life in and out of hospitals, letting them run their tests, give him pills and            stick him with their needles. He hated it here– the floors and walls so clean            and white that they were glowing, the smell of faux lemon and bleach. It was            enough to make him sick and bring back memories of his childhood spent            connected to an IV and stuck in a bed that was more familiar than his own            at home.
Things were supposed to have gotten better since then– he’d surpassed the            age that the doctors said he was going to. And yet…here he was. Sure, he            was still laughing and grinning as the doctors and nurses spoke to him, but            on the inside he was turmoil. He wasn’t useful in the hospital, he needed to            get back out to where his athletes needed him! To where his friends needed            him!
Ah….Friends….One person’s face in particular flashes to his mind. Mikan.            His ‘little sister’. Someone that he considered dearer to him than all else.            He could practically hear her voice in his head telling him that he’d better            stay right where he is and not push himself so hard or else he might suffer            from another attack or even worse. He knew that he was going to have to            stay and rest, let the doctors run their tests and give him pills as much as            he didn’t want to. He was going to do it for her.
But he knew that he should probably let her know what had happened so            she didn’t worry as much as he knew she would if he suddenly dropped            off the face of the Earth. So, as a nurse came to check on him, he asked            her if she had any idea where his cellphone had gone off to when they            had brought him in as he had a very important person to make contact            with. When she brought it to him, he opened up a new message (ever            the classy one, Nidai was, despite the fact his fingers were a little too            big for the screen. He just didn’t want to hear her cry for him.) to send            to the Nurse.
[ text to: Mikan ] it seems that I have found my way into the hospital.             [ text to: Mikan ] I am terribly sorry. If you would like to come and visit me, it would be nice to have you around.

💕 but a brotherly kiss like on the forehead or cheek
Tumblr media
The kiss to her forehead made Mikan pause for a moment before she grinned, up at him. She was glad she had been able to spend New years with someone she regarded so positively. "Happy New Year, Big Brother." It was the first year she was actually looking forward to what the new year would bring instead of viewing it with the certainty that she would only grow to loathe herself even more. "Do you h-have any resolutions for the new year?"

{ ❀ } – Reiyn shakes her head lightly, hair brushing against Mikan’s skin momentarily as she gives her a warm grin and draws back to sit properly on the bar stool.
Tumblr media
“I could never be annoyed with you, especially for something like that.” That would be ungrateful of her to do, not to mention rather uncalled for. “I’m fine now though, I promise. Having you here makes me feel better as well.” Though, she still feels guilty about waking Mikan and unintentionally having her come all the way to the club at such an hour. Reiyn knew this really wasn’t the sort of place the nurse wanted to be at as well.
“You still need your sleep though… want to wait in the staff room while I call an Uber to take you home? It’s a lot quieter in there than it is out here.”
Tumblr media
A slight frown appears as Mikan checks the time. It is rather late--actually, it is extremely late--but she doesn’t want to leave. She likes it there, she likes anywhere as long as she is close to Reiyn, but such a sentiment won’t help Mikan rest for work in the morning or allow Reiyn to return to work.
“Please, just a f-few more minutes.” The words are out before Mikan can stop them, a bright flush coloring her cheeks as her gaze averts and she fidgets, tugging on the bandages around her wrist and forearm. “S-sorry, I...I meant to say that an Uber would be greatly appreciated...”

A light flush colors Mikan's cheeks as their foreheads touch. For a moment she averts her gaze, finding herself feeling rather shy even in the presence of someone she cares so much about. Her gaze flickers to the bandaid one more time before she manages to meet Reiyn's gaze and hold it.
Tumblr media
"Actually...t-that doesn't sound selfish at all. I understand exactly how you feel." The hand that's not resting against Reiyn's cheek reaches up and lightly brushes back a lock of the other woman's hair as she regards her affectionately. "I am appreciative t-that you allow me to fret and worry over you without getting annoyed with me."
Mikan gives a soft hum, "It...doesn't hurt too much, does it? I can give you something for p-pain."
