Super Blood Wolf Lunar Eclipse transit 21.01.19

A long night in sub-zero temperatures put both me and my equipment to the test - but one not to be missed. 5 hours of photos in all (these are just a few!)

Taking photos of the moon is straightforward enough, but to modify exposure and bump the ISO once the moon had entered the Earth's umbra (shadow) was the tricky bit. The part sticking out was still getting pretty much full sun reflection, whilst the shadow is almost dark.

As the full shadow eclipsed the moon, the red really started to show, and I am pleased to have captured the small purple tinge just as that final light vanished - which is the ozone in the atmosphere.

The much-awaited Jallikattu or bull-taming festival is here, and Madurai's Palamedu is among the few places in southern Tamil Nadu to host it. The traditional adventure sport is held in various parts of Tamil Nadu for almost a month alongside the Pongal festivities. The bulls are trained for the event for almost a year and so are the tamers.
