I like doing this thing where I make characters and then show them characters that that character loves and saying "they could never love you the way you love them (they actually do), no one could ever love you like that"

Varric points to my traumatized Rook and says "I want that one to be my second in command, he's primed and ready for a mental breakdown"
Meanwhile Delmar sees a dwarf that would roughly be around the same age as his father and says "Pa- uh I mean sir- you're not my dad, I don't see you as my father. That would be crazy" and would follow him to the ends of Thedas

Varric says it's cause of the chess piece (and it is slightly) but also he just thinks it's really funny that everyone is calling Zevran's son the name of another corvid
Delmar absolutely got called rook (the bird) by Varric as a joke against Zevran and it just stuck

Witseck, after sustaining the grievous injury during the Battle of Denerim, decided to practice his archery due in part to Zevran's suggestion. An attempt to restore some of his balance and strength after being bedridden for so long.
Their son watched his father in awe, after years of practice had vastly improved his condition (Though he was nowhere near restored). He asked his fathers to teach him the many skills they'd amassed over their lifetimes. Archery was the first.

The Father - Warden Witseck Brosca sometime during the Fifth Blight. 9:31 Dragon. Aged 20.
Tumblr media
The Son - Watcher Delmar "Rook" Brosca Ingellvar sometime during his journey with the Veilguard. 9:52 Dragon. Aged 20.
Despite Delmar being a foundling, Zevran couldn't help but see the similarities between his son and his husband. He worried that Delmar would (even unintentionally) follow Witseck's path. The fear was warranted.
Commission by @lethologicaee - Thank you so much! They look great

A piece Alistair had requested for them after the Fifth Blight, something to honor his friends before they made their journey out of Ferelden to search for a cure for the Calling. Zevran constantly teased Witseck afterwards for how neat his hair was during the posing after being so scraggly throughout their travels during the blight.
Their son now holds onto the portrait, nestled between the pages of one of his tomes for safe keeping. He takes it out sometimes to remember the nights around the fire when his fathers would joke and laugh together and when their mabari slept soundly at his feet.
Commission of Witseck, Zevran, and their mabari by @redmedic - They all look absolutely perfect! Thank you so much!!

How Delmar gets along with the companions:
SOME SPOILERS AHEAD
Lace Harding: He's crushing on her BAD, but after seeing how Zevran was affected by Witseck's death, he's hesitant to tell her how he feels for fear that either he will pass and leave her alone or she'll pass and leave him alone (it completely crushes him if Harding dies). He admires her strength and loves to listen to her stories of life on the farm, following the inquisition, and could honestly listen to her talk about anything and everything. They bond over camping (Delmar is not as intense about it as Harding) and their love of plants and learning more about the Titans and the dwarves. Delmar "secretly" cooks and bakes for her. Everyone else knows the two like each other and are betting on when one will confess to the other and who it will be.
Neve Gallus: Close friends. He admires her love for Dock Town and feels right at home walking Dock Town's streets. They bond over the insomnia and their need to look for solutions. While the both of them are pragmatic, Neve uses it to prepare and Delmar tries to keep things light (something he learned from both Zevran and Varric) while still being realistic. They respect each other's decision not to discuss much about their personal lives aside from the occasional detail.
Bellara Lutare: Very close friends. They bond over their deceased loved ones (Delmar tends to avoid sharing details of his fathers as much as he can, but the occasional detail slips through) and their natural curiosities. He asks her about the artifacts and she asks him about Mourn Watch things (though Delmar knows more about the nonmagical side of the Mourn Watch).
Lucanis Dellamorte: Acquaintances. Delmar clams up whenever he talks about the Antivan Crows considering who one of his fathers is (Zevran definitely didn't want his son to associate with the Crows and Delmar would avoid letting the two meet for obvious reasons if he ever spoke about his personal life to Lucanis). They bond over cooking when Delmar shares some of his father's recipes and a cake recipe he'd gotten from his uncle's (Alistair) cooks.
Davrin: Acquaintances. Started off a bit rocky as Delmar associates the Grey Wardens with what took his father from him (Witseck told him that while he appreciated that the Grey Wardens gave him the push he needed to leave Orzammar and allowed him to meet his friends and loved ones, he wouldn't want his son to follow in his footsteps). They bond over their love of animals and nature (Witseck and Zevran taught Delmar as much as they could about surviving in the woods as they were always on the move).
Emmrich Volkarin: Very close friends, peers, and Delmar sometimes sees him as a father figure. They discuss the Mourn Watch, academics, and occasionally debate certain topics. They bond over being raised under the Mourn Watch and Delmar opens up about how lonely it felt being one of the few (if not the only) dwarves in his classes and being unable to learn and perform the magic and necromancy his friends and classmates were able to. (Delmar secretly looks through Emmrich's books, hoping to find a cure for the Calling to finish his father's work)
Taash: Acquaintances. Delmar is there to answer some of Taash's questions about gender identity. He understands their relationship with their mother (Witseck was a good, loving father but occasionally distanced himself due to his chronic pain flare ups, the ever growing presence of the Taint and the Calling, and his fear of turning into his mother) and he tries not to interfere aside from helping Taash work through their emotions in a healthy way. They occasionally work out together (Moreso after Shathann's death).
Varric Tethras: Saw him as a father figure. Definitely questioned some of his decisions as a leader especially in the beginning, but followed loyally until it was time for him to take up the mantle. Varric taught him some of the things Witseck never got a chance to (like how to properly shave and maintain his facial hair). Delmar attempted to fix Bianca when he thought Varric would be able to use her again.

I've got too many thoughts about my little freak ass (affectionate) Rook.
Meet Delmar Brosca Ingellvar (He/They)
Fathers:
Witseck Brosca - The Hero of Ferelden. Faked his death after slaying the Archdemon to be able to live in peace with his loving husband. Sustained massive injuries during the battle, walked with a cane for as long as Delmar remembers.
Zevran Arainai - Outwardly lived as though Witseck had sacrificed himself during the Blight. Was asked by Witseck to kill him when he knew he wouldn't survive their expedition, not wanting to succumb to the Calling.
Bio:
Found as a baby on the docks of Denerim after the Fifth Blight by the Hero of Ferelden and his husband as they were traveling out of Ferelden to find a cure for the Calling.
Raised for 10 years by the two in secret until the events of the Inquisition when Witseck's condition worsened and they decided they needed to double their efforts to find a cure. He was left under the care of the Mourn Watch as they went on their expeditions, returning each time with naught but little trinkets for their child.
Their spirits fell after each unsuccessful expedition, Witseck growing weaker and weaker by the week. Delmar decided to formally join the Mourn Watch to learn to deal with the grief of losing his father after Zevran returned from their final expedition alone. As Witseck's body was returned to Orzammar to be entombed under Paragon customs (as they had promised Witseck's sister when she agreed to help him fake his death), Delmar made a small place for him in the Memorial Gardens behind some tombstones (Vorgoth and Myrna have secretly asked the gardeners to not disturb the stack of stones Delmar thinks is secret).

(Lucanis watching Rook spar with some of the others in the Lighthouse courtyard)
Caretaker: Are you in need of assistance, dweller?
Lucanis: Hmmm? Ah, no. My current weapons are quite suitable. Thank you.
Caretaker: I can also offer assistance with your sexual overtures.
Lucanis: I… beg your pardon?
Caretaker: Your spirit companion informed me of your lack of firsthand experience. I have witnessed many acts of coitus among the dwellers here across the ages. I would be happy to provide a summary of my observations.
Lucanis: Mierda. No. Thank you.
Caretaker: Fen’harel also left some illustrated journals if you—
Lucanis: NO THANK YOU!

morrigan’s fond kind-of-bragging “a lofty title, but he wears it well ❤️” abt a romanced warden being the hero of ferelden is so good with ivar. he’s constantly torn up abt how little he deserves his various titles so she just shrugs and does all the contented smugness for him
