Things I was so crazy certain about a month ago that apparently could not have been more wrong:

They were not going to kill Siuan

Siuan was being set up in the Tower to “fail” in her and Moiraine’s mission so she could later succeed in that very mission through Egwene

Siuan-Mat Tower of Ghenjei rescue mission*

We would see Siuan in Tear again before the end of the series

We would get to see Siuaraine endgame in this life, raising the devastating question of how you survive when you have already sacrificed your life & expected to die

WoT would definitely get another season and any holdup in negotiations was about a possible two-season contract scenario

* “certain” may be a bit strong for this one but I really thought it was on the table!!

I think rafe judkins is genuinely just not a serious person. because ultimately Siuan’s role post coup is about helping Egwene figure out what it means to be aes sedai in a diaspora community that no longer has access to the artifacts/rituals (oath rod/terangreal) that made up their identity but continuing anyways. There are whole conversations where she’s like “we may not have the oath rod anymore but sticking to these principles is what makes us aes sedai.”

Like Siuan’s role is intrinsically about helping the white tower hold on to its identity in diaspora which she can do not just because she was Amyrlin but also because of her relationship to Tear. She’s one of the few characters that has a strong sense of regional identity and is able to maintain it despite pressure to assimilate. I think that tension IS very much present in Sophie’s performance despite them giving her almost nothing to work with and I think that’s likely because she’s bringing her lived experience to the role.

but I also think that all of that went completely over Rafe’s head. because he had an extremely high caliber actress who is both Black and Jewish and seems entirely unaware of how Siuan’s arc might be relevant or interesting to her. Because he doesn’t even recognize that it IS significant
