Learning Dutch
Since I got the news that I was accepted to be part of this project here in the Netherlands, one of the first things that came into my mind was "I’d love to learn dutch”. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I thought it would be an amazing experience learning a new langague, specially when you’re sorrounded by hundreds of people speaking that language you’ve started to learn. Therefore, now I am part of this Dutch class for beginners and it’s been a month and a half since I started. YES, DUTCH IS HARD TO LEARN. However, there’s a lot of words which are similar to English, specially the pronounciation. I’ve already learned a couple of things, but I know that I still need to practice A LOT. What I suggest to anyone who wants to start learning a new language is looking for song and movies in that language you want to learn. That’s what I did, and especially the songs, they help a lot. I still have to watch the Dutch movies that a Dutch friend recommend me, but I am pretty sure they will also help me to get used to some words in dutch. I can’t wait to be able to speak at least the necessary to have a simple conversation with someone at a store, market or even the waitress at a bar. Until there I am just keep studying and trying to know more about the Dutch life

First 24h in the Netherlands
Hello!
Yesterday I officially started my journey in the Netherlands! I’ve finally arrived in the “orange country” after long 12 hours by plane, plus almost 3 hours by train. However, everything was great and I could appreciate the beautiful view from the train. There’s so much plantations and cute houses that I could see from the train’s windows that I didn’t even bother to carry so many baggage and backpack after long hours on the plane.
When I finally get to Vlissingen (the city where I am going to be a researcher at HZ University), a man from the housing company picked me up and brought me to my house. It’s located in downtown, so there’s planty of bars, cafes and stores near the house. I’ve also met a few people who are going to share the house with me and they are really nice.
Yesterday I also bought the basic food and itens that I am going to need living here and I took advantage of the shopping to actually get to know the city better,. The city is really cozy, with small and beautiful houses, but there’s still plenty of places for me to visit.
Today I’ve already met my supervisor and visited the HZ University. Although the university was almost empty, since everybody is still on vacation, I really liked it and I believe it’ll going to be a great experience.
I can’t wait to visit other places here in Vlissingen, meet new people and especially to begin researching, so I’ll keep updating Tha Journey to share all this experience.
Bye Bye
