two-bit making jokes that aren’t that good and don’t help tensions simmer my beloved.. he wants everyone to feel better, he is trying so damn hard to find that balance but he can’t always. idk i don’t even mean this in the emo angsty way i just think it’s interesting how he tends to deal with it all

by the way. pony spent all day working on a "secret drawing" only soda could see. and everytime darry asked to please sneak a peek pony hid the drawing until he walked away. when he was done he walked to darry n handed it to him. it was a portrait of darry n it said happy fathers day. by the way. and darry cried n they hugged btw. and soda joined the hug. and they're the brothers ever and they love each other. just so you know.

Denton saying to David “They don’t always fire you, David.” at Tibby’s, implying that David’s told Denton about his dad’s accident. It must’ve felt like more than just abandonment of the newsies but a personal betrayal to David. Especially considering Denton only addressed David for this.
And then David saying, “from now on we trust no one but the Newsies.” only for Jack to then scab. They really be jerking this poor boy around :(

hc Darry was born SUPER early and Mr and Mrs Curtis didn’t have time to pick out a super crazy name so they came up with making him a junior while driving to the hospital and that’s the only reason he has a normal name

Having more musical Cherry costume thoughts, mostly thanks to @asexual-juliet’s incredible costume masterpost.
More thoughts on her being the only main character with a costume change and how that relates to the show as a “memory play” / a play that exists in Ponyboy’s mind (can’t find any of the clips where the actors talk about that)
Cherry is the character that changes the most to Ponyboy, because she’s a stranger to him at the beginning. Her first costume is the image Pony has of her from afar - Cherry Valance, Queen of the Socs - and her second costume is Cherry the person he’s gotten to know.
Her first costume is an almost cartoonish expression of femininity. In Pony’s mind, Cherry is an explosion of bright pink, the ideal Girl. His frame of reference for the ideal pretty, glamorous girl would be the actresses he sees in movies. Like say, just as an example, this Ann-Margret pinup that Soda definitely has on the wall in their room. (Side by side comparison for all your cherrycola needs)

Her second costume is noticeably muted, noticeably less bright and cheery, in comparison. It’s still a nice outfit, but it looks more like an outfit a real person would wear instead of a musical character.

I was joking that the other reason Cherry’s the one with a costume change is because she’s the only main character who can afford one. But it’s kind of true. Everyone Pony knows wears basically the same clothes everyday, recycles the same clothes as long as they can. When Cherry shows up wearing a noticeably different outfit from the first time he saw her, that would stick out in his mind. She can afford to wear one kind of outfit for a night out and a different one more appropriate for a hospital, as opposed to the gang who can’t even switch out their rumble clothes for their friend’s funeral.
And of course there’s the Bob of it all. Her second costume is Bob’s color, because Pony now associates her with Bob, with Bob’s death. He projects onto her his anger and blame at Bob, and his guilt toward Bob.

just saw a little girl who’s mom stopped to talk to someone in a parking lot so she had sketchbook in on hand, pencil in mouth sticking out on either side like a dog carrying a stick, and was holding her mom’s hand in her other arm and pulling and leaning with her full body weight to try and pull her mom out of the conversation (her mom did not move at all)
if this isn’t darry and pony coded, i don’t know what is

My favorite parallel in the Outsiders musical is when Ponyboy goes from “my brother could have been a football star/people say he had a ticket out” and “my other brother suffers from a broken heart”
To
“Darrel you’re the toughest guy I know/just took me way too long to see” and “soda you’re this family’s heart and soul”
Bc that’s so good

daryl dallys height difference with brent during this scene actually means so much to me like it looks like darrel is bullying a kid which highlights dallys age and make his end scene even more devastating cuz ur reminded that he’s only 17 when he dies

"i asked chatgpt" well i calculated the number of the beast. it is napoleon. six hundred three score and six. and i will kill him one day. he's no great man, none of us are great men, we're caught in the waves of history. nothing matters; everything matters, it's all the same. Oh, if only I could not see it, that dreadful, terrible, it.

And Soda calls him honey and Darry calls him baby and the gang calls him little brother and he dreams about the sunset and he draws horses on his homework and sketches his friend's faces and his hair is floppy and his eyes are big and I love him so much 🥹
