I think I have an idea as to why. It doesn't feel "tight". While it's professional and well produced, listening to a tabletop (especially D&D) is far less engaging than playing because of investment. Other podcasts that edit down that spacing, include more production value, and push more technical mechanics to the side end up telling stories that feel a bit closer to an audio drama.
Good examples of these productions imo: Worlds Beyond Number, Dimension 20, RPG Major, The Heart is a Dungeon (especially this, everyone should listen).
is critical roll really hard to get into for anyone else or is it just a me thing. like i'm sure it's great i'm sure the hype is warranted but when i tried (most recent attempt was several months ago) it was like. i was three and a half hours into a five-ish hour long session (the first episode of whatever campaign i picked mind you) when i remembered i could be watching anything else. i tried watching the totk-based oneshot they did when it came out and i just couldn't. get into it. i don't mean to be mean or anything i just need to know if it's a me thing or not bc i've never had this issue with any other d&d show

So in case anyone else is feeling from WWW ep53, listening to RPGMajor is actually great aftercare. What the fuck.
How long was Steel waiting? The whole time. I need to know what was in her mind watching Suvi see her parents again.
Was she jealous that the girl she did her best to raise, the girl that calls her mom, the girl that has been by her side for years and years pivoted so quickly back to the people that no longer stand by her. Back to Soft and Stone.
And how did she feel watching Suvi pick up that Inflict Wounds so naturally. The thing that scars her to this day, the spell that probably feels like raw betrayal, something she was left out of. How does it feel to watch that spell live, knowing that its existence reveals what you've done.
Or I'm just brain rotting. The other two are great but some part of me connects too close to Suvi and I can't stop thinking about that whole web,,,

NO. BRENNAN YOU CANNOT DO THAT.
I just spent the last 20 minutes of my drive trying to accept WHAT just happened at the end of EP 52. Trying to think of any good reason and all I have is coercion.

I know that HRT gives you secondary sex characteristics in one direction or another, but we HAVE to stop telling nonbinary people that they “can’t pick and choose.” Of course, you can’t tell your testosterone that you’d rather not grow chest hair, but there are things you can do!
You could go on T so your voice drops and start shaving so you don’t grow a beard. You could start HRT and then stop once you get the permanent changes you like. You can pursue sterilization instead of bottom surgery. You can get top surgery without being on T. You can go on E and work out a bunch to bulk out your muscles. You can pursue laser hair removal or electrolysis to remove unwanted hair, with or without HRT. You could even just start hormones to see if you like it and then stop if it isn’t to your taste.
Obviously, you can’t order secondary sex characteristics a la carte, but we have to stop being so awful to nonbinary people. We should discuss the options we have, not shut down the conversation with “that’s what you get.”
#i got a new doctor and she understood the assignment “i want everything from estrogen except boobs”#im just gonna get top surgery later on but first medical professional to not question me

Okay but there was another post (can't find it right now) about how mage/magus is a really good linguistically-fitting honorific term for gender neutral (taking the same place of sir/mister or miss/missus) and I've been using that in my personal life. I think we should normalize that.
remember when they were saying that bisexuals couldn't be butch or femme and we had to be like. deer
#side note#why do the boys get jobs instead of animals#like a druid could be incredibly masculine and its still a druid???#a mage could have massive muscles and you wouldnt deny its a mage#idk i find it really weird how that one is different#also femme and butch have societal definitions#not just “masc lesbian” or “fem lesbian” :/

despite the terf talking points most transgender people actually do think that sex and biology are real. but not me. i think that genders were invented by big pharma to sell period products. i think all other living organisms are actually animatronics sponsored by the disney company. i think that the "boobs" are all implants filled with covid vaccine. and baby i dont even think the mitochondria is in the cell. fuck with me.
#the amount of people I've met talking about “biological sex” who are trans :(#get stunlocked by my “do you mean genotypically or phenotypically?”#“biological” makes no sense as a label because thats not how biology

if you ever find yourself thinking “wow I scraped the bottom of the barrel with my energy with that and came out okay!” that’s the devil talking. you did not come out okay. you borrowed energy from the future. you will repay it if you don’t rest and replenish the borrowed energy first.

"The GM is the ultimate arbiter of the rules and can modify rules at will to suit their table" is a useful principle to have in mind and apply to your table on a personal basis, but it getting informally codified by the D&D community as the maxim of "Rule 0" has been a complete disaster for anyone who wants to publicly engage with tabletop rpgs on a game design level. No other single concept has been as destructive as it to the very existence of tabletop game design discussion.

I am spoiling the live action Lilo & Stitch. And I am doing it up front and plainly.
Do not fucking see this movie. Do not waste your money on this. Period.
They made Nani give Lilo up to the American government. They made Nani LEAVE Hawaii and pursue being a marine biologist. They made a native Hawaiian character give up her sibling to pursue a dream that she originally did not have. This is imperialist propaganda at its FINEST.
The original fucking movie is about family staying together. It's about indigenous people being able to stay with each other and stay in their home and be together! That's the whole fucking point! Nani is Lilo's last living relative on her homeland—it is jarring, it is disgusting and disturbing that Nani would not only leave her last blood relative alone, give her up to the very government that is harming native Hawaiians TODAY, but also travel to the "mainland" for her dream!
Not to mention, Nani's actress isn't fucking Hawaiian. She's much paler in photos and real life. They fucking darkened her for this movie.
Don't even get me started on the transgender subtext of Pleakley's "human" disguise from the original movie being completely erased in favor of him being played by a regular ass white man. Jumba doesn't have his accent, they made him more villainous, and his "human" disguise is a non-fat white man—which part of his original joke, I know, is that he was bigger and was more clumsy in the movie because of his size, but to have the main shape of his character completely removed is also fucking weird.
This live action movie is a desecration to the original. I encourage you to not see it, please. Don't give Disney any of your money on this one. Just watch the original. Please just watch the original.
The new message in the live action movie is disturbing and gross.
This is one of the most disrespectful live actions I've seen and heard of. I implore you to not watch it.
