A Taste of Sage by Yaffa S. Santos
This book is delightful. Beautifully written with unique characters that are well thought out and very real. The story is a love story, between two brilliant chefs, between people and food and the deep, familial kind.
Laugh out loud funny in parts, emotionally frustrating in others. Characters are relatable with real dialog that sounds how people actually talk to each other.
Thankfully, Ms. Santos has included Lumi's recipes in the book. I am looking forward to trying her dishes.
Thanks to Ms. Santos, Harper Publishing and Goodreads for the giveaway that brought this wonderful book into my life. This has no effected my review in any way. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
5 out of 5 stars. Perfect summer reading.

The Lightest Object in the Universe is an interesting read to be certain. The first couple of chapters are engaging and well written. It then becomes an infuriating journey. It is incredibly communist in it's politics and opinions, which makes it interesting because only in a capitalist environment would this book have even been published. Given the fiascos that are in the news of the "autonomous zones" and "occupations", the novel became unintentionally humorous in a way that the author probably didn't intend. Having faith and a belief system is looked at distainfully, appearing conservative means being considered untrustworthy and potentially violent.
Politics aside, which is difficult to do with a novel this political, it is a love story. Not a romantic story but the love of community. The novel strives for this and falls flat. The emotional connection between Carson and Beatrix is never quite developed the way it could have been. Neither main character is incredibly likeable and the likeable characters are treated as simply scenery.
Overall, I give it 3 stars. The story was a bit of a letdown.
I received a copy of this novel in advance of the paperback publication in exchange for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. My thanks to Algonquin Paperbacks @algonquinbooks for asking me to participate in this blog tour.

Currently reading: Valentine by Elizabeth Wetmore. So far, this has been some heavy reading, atmospheric and emotional. Beautiful and painful at the same time. @bookofthemonth @harpercollins

Just finished this beautiful book! A heart touching story of perserverance and healing. The characters are well thought out and feel very real. Discusses disability without melodrama or being patronizing. Highly recommended read, 5 out of 5 stars. #bookstagram #books #read #readallthebooks #amreading #readersofinstagram @abbieeofficial @netgalley https://www.instagram.com/p/CBKLccDJh5a/?igshid=1thd7ka2ydq4u
