head canon that Wen Qing was also pretend-burned, and was kept alive in the Jin-secret-evil-basement with Wen Ning because of her extensive medical knowledge, and she obeyed cuz they threatened to hurt Wen Ning (he doesn’t feel pain like a human, but they can certainly get creative when they are jabbing needles into his skull and cause him pain that way). She tried to keep both her and her brother alive (you know what i mean) just like when she lived with Wen Ruohan.

Sad idea now, what if after so SO many years of imprisonment, Wen Ning is called by MXY WWX and Wen Qing is left alone. Before the Jin-Secret-Evil-Basement is discovered, Wen Qing has been deemed unnecessary and also a security risk (what if Wen Ning comes back for her) so she is finally actually killed.

Wen Ning does not remember that his sister was alive in the basement with him, and WWX was too dead to know, so neither of them are aware just how recently Wen Qing died (or how close they were to saving her).

random idea but what if Shen Jiu had some form of future sight, and he was able to see what became of Luo Binghe (OG) before he even became a disciple. SQQ is haunted by this vision until he sees LBH about to become a disciple of Bai Zhan, and surely on that peak he will become ruthless and violent, so SQQ snatched him to prevent that.

LBH is extremely powerful? Give him a fake manual to prevent him from growing his cultivation, hopefully forever stunting his ability.

LBH only marries women for sex? Try to keep him far away from his precious NYY.

LBH is cocky and prideful? Encourage bullying to lower his self esteem and keep him humble.

SQQ cant get away with outright murdering a disciple (plus the kid is technically innocent, for now) but that doesnt stop him from putting the beast in dangerous situations hoping a ‘tragic accident’ will prevent the future.

When LBH is revealed as a demon, SQQ probably blames him for the attack on the conference, PLUS he now has an iron-clad excuse to kill this future dictator.

Unfortunately, SQQ has never heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Oops

JGY and SMS thoughts

I do not like JGY. This should be made clear because Im about to defend this man like i want to suck his dick.

JGY was born to be second place. He was never meant to be a leader, and belongs behind a figurehead leader, pulling the strings. (The best JGY in fandom is second in command to JZX because JZX is a lovable moron).

His watchtowers? Amazing 10/10. Murdering JGS? 8/10 shouldve done it sooner.

The big problem with JGY is not his ruthlessness or his sociopathic tendencies, its his ambition. He places so much arbitrary value on being Sect Leader, chief cultivator, and also being accepted by his dad. If he had recognized that JGS would never love him, he would’ve offed him ages ago and been the mastermind behind JZX, where he belongs.

SMS on the other hand is correct in every possible way.

I love a good henchman, and he will dirty his hands and his soul for JGY and I adore him for it. He truly did not give a fuck what JGY was working towards, he let himself be used like a tool and I appreciate being able to relate to his character. Blind love and loyalty, no morals just Do. He is so precious to me and if JGY had killed JGS earlier SMS would’ve been a great Jin henchman.

Before that, however, SMS is just kind of an ass. Again, I love asshole representation and hes iconic, but it does mean he will never be a fan favorite. Unlike the “Heroes” of the story, SMS is primarily concerned with keeping himself alive, and he recognizes that he is a background character. His death wouldn’t be noted or appreciated, just a corpse in the background of a few scenes before never being heard if again. Think of the entire battlefields of dead cultivators, the Jiang and Lan disciples killed, no one cares. They are lumped together as a “tragedy” but no one remembers their names. For SMS, that is his fate and he recognizes that.

So no, he does not lay down his life at the first chance. Yes he is a “coward” who runs away when he knows he cant win a fight. GOOD FOR HIM. The protagonists of this story would never have protected him, and so he’s gotta do it himself. His later devotion to JGY just shows that he is not incapable of love, of care, rather that he chose not to care about WWX or any of the other main characters. So he is an antagonist in WWX’s story, but not a true villain. Just a man who wants to stay alive and I respect that.

Anyways I love SMS and have complex feelings about JGY.

Favorite Feral Lan Wangji Moments:

- Punching down several trees after kissing his crush (derogatory) for the first time because he has no idea how to process emotions normally

- Randomly biting Wei Wuxian in the cave because he has no idea how to process emotions normally

- Getting absolutely shit faced for the first time in his life and destroying a bunch of shit around cloud recesses before branding himself with the mark his crush from 10 years ago also had because he- well you get it.

it’s kinda funny how the mdzs fandom is like a venn diagram of people who like lan wangji & wei wuxian in one circle, jin guangyao in another one (lan xichen hanging out in the overlap), and jiang cheng in a third. the overlap between the circles is really small with a tiny dot where they all meet, and that’s where i imagine a little star that says *you are here*

Unpopular opinion but Jinzhu and Yinzhu are under appreciated characters in MDZS. For a show that already has like 3 named female characters, they are quickly forgotten about by the fandom. Like, Yu Ziyuan has 2 childhood besties who follow her everywhere? They only serve her? THEY ARE LITERAL ASSASSINS? Badass bitches. They have like 10 collective seconds of screen time but they are actually so important to me. Are they sisters? platonic? lesbians? all of the above somehow? no answers! But i lpve them they are just always standing there menacingly.
