New info about the Talamasca characters based on the SDCC interviews

Talamasca is intended as a standalone spy genre show. Season one is focused on vampires and witches, other immortal beings may make their way into the show later but they wanted to focus on the characters now versus doing monster of the week. The timeline is post IWTV s2 and before s3.

Put together some old and almost all the new info about the main ensemble under the cut. Also more juicy info at the end!!

Guy Anatole is a telepath and can read minds. At the beginning of the story he doesn't understand his abilities and thinks it's a mental illness of some kind. His life has been curated by Talamasca since early childhood. He was adopted and grew up to be a loner with a skeptical outlook on life. He's yearning for connection and desperately tries to find attachment and stability, and trust is his both greatest weakness and strength. He takes up on the job to be sent to the London Motherhouse, and must navigate how the truth of who he is intersects with Talamasca's goals — since he was nothing and "someone who has nothing can be dangerous". Anatole means "sunrise" btw #saveGuy

Helen is the leader of the New York Motherhouse. She's a complex, long-time member of the order, her life completely intertwined with its mission. Her motivations remain opaque, and she has her own goals and old wounds that she needs figured out, and those things might go against what the organization wants. Helen is described as both a principal and a student to Guy, and "a mom he hasn’t had for a long time". Helen and Guy's mothering but distrustful relationship is a core of this season.

Jasper is an impostor a resident vampire in the London Motherhouse. He assumes a place within the organization — partly by literally tossing some people off the living quarters. He's a grittier, gonzo vampire inspired by Texas’s outlaw culture. Also described as "a blue collar vampire" and “middle class and pissed off at the caste system of vampires.” He's loyal to his own cause and confident in his ways, is after some people and needs allies. Jasper has a lot of rage but also a lot of empathy. He never lies but fails by having an exceedingly high expectation of people who can't meet it. At first Jasper was written as a proper Englishman but then changed around William Fichtner’s casting.

Olive is Guy's american handler and is responsible for his safety when he goes from NY to London. She is brilliant and power hungry, wants to make sure her skills aren't wasted and needs the right allies for her goals, so she exists in the grey area between the truth and lies. Olive's strength is the ability to read the needs of people she encounters and her weakness is being part of the team while not leading it. Her journey this season is figuring out whether to stand by Guy's side or to go against him.

Doris lives safely on a houseboat with her coven — but it's unknown whether she's a witch herself. She's stoic and familiar with the supernatural world. Doris sees that Guy is different, she likes him and tries to warn him about the Talamasca but it doesn't work. She sees Guy as a "toddler running into a burning building".

Burton a sequestered, melancholic vampire living in The Dakota penthouse in New York. He's the first vampire that Guy meets, and it's a story of how you'd present a vampire to someone who wants to meet one. He's an anxiety-ridden oddball and has history with the Talamasca.

It’s important that Guy has read the book. · Showrunners John Lee Hancock and Mark Lafferty say the story would be told in its entirety over 5 seasons.

The notion of building new families within alternative communities is central to the Talamasca’s ethos. “When we were figuring out what spy shows and vampire shows have in common ... it’s about people searching for family, ... whether it’s their actual family or the new families they’re trying to create”, — Mark Lafferty.
