Queerly Beloved, we are gathered here to share the strange yet beautiful experience that is queer love, life, grief, and joy. We speak the words that have emanated from our very souls.

Americana, Part 2: The Resistance
The business of resistance
Is calculated nuisance
The Call sent out through
Whispers persistent
They cry: “The purge starts tonight
Under hellfire and gunfight”
Our nightmares come to life
We resist. We must try.
You can’t get all of us
You can’t win every time
The wheel of time determines
And providence opines
We are caught in the throes
Of power and position
Insisting they know
Best for my children
I should be married
Somebody’s wife
Humble, submissive
Obedient, quiet
Hope for our children
Rests on the shoulders of
Obstinate, headstrong women
Who do not aspire to be humble
We do not forgive
We will not forget
Your indifference
And complicity
Our lives will be saved
By us alone
By our will to live
Or die trying
Sisters, don’t you see?
Our lives rely on solidarity

Americana, Part 1: The Elegy
Here lies Lady Liberty
Under shrouds of racist misogyny
We held on to every hope
To the end, every breath
Her eyes fixed in the horizon
Dreaming of a new chapter
The glow of hope
Turns to requiem
The dirge begins to play
As her daughters weep
For those we will lose
For the price we will pay
The siren song of power
Promises security
In exchange for the lives
Of my sisters, my friends, my mother
Female, trans, nonbinary
Fall under the boots of supremacy
Mass graves, open maws
Taking our lives and democracy
Here lies Lady Liberty
Tear stained corpse, soliloquy
She fell at last, no victory
Her mourners keening endlessly

I’m grieving, and the sky is blue
I’m grieving, and the sky is blue
I can’t enjoy it like I want to
Everywhere I bring cloud cover
Never seems to lift, just hover
5 or 6 or 7 stages? I hardly know
Measure the ache and weight of my soul
I’m grieving, and the sky is blue
Sun is out, birds too
The cheery world outside
Makes a mockery of my pain
If the sky were empathetic
It would pour rain
The gloom is a balm
On my bloodied wounded soul
The gray sky a kindness
Shielding reddened eyes
The price paid, promises made
To love and to not forget
The weight of being human
Feeling loss - regret
Skies do not force an affect
Offer compassionate introspection
Seeing light and shadow at play
Within myself, night and day
The promise the skies make
To bring a new day
Clouds and rain
Sun and play
Are all welcome in their respective moments
I cannot join the sky in light-play today
I’m grieving, and pain will stay
Never permanent, but
On a schedule of its own
The unwelcome houseguest
Is not ready to go, it stays
So the sky is blue, and I grieve today

Click.
The last piece in a 1,000 part puzzle.
Click.
The flip of a light switch.
Click.
The turning of a key.
Click.
One press of a button.
I felt it. In my heart. My soul.
The moment our lips met,
The lost girl found her home.

Girl kisses feel like velvet
Girl kisses taste like summer fruit
And goddess-grass
I knew I liked you 😉
Sleeping Beauty is finally awake
And it turns out that dreaming of love and being love can meld together

A Ruby and Sapphire
Protection and vision
It was all love and roses
Blushing sunset and twilight
Champagne bubbles
Giddy smiles
Weak knees
Distance. Miles.
After all this time?
Always, she said.
