Ugh, I wanna post about my ideas for Rusty/Flame's relationship with Seaborne's Silverstream and Onewhisker, but my perfectionist brain wants everything to be set in stone before I do. Somebody help me lmao.
#flame and silver (probably gonna be called minnow in seaborne) are my little goofy gremlin children#and i've been listening to gigi perez's sailor song as inspo for flame and onewhisker's relationship#which should tell you enough#i haven't decided onewhisker's name in seaborne yet#gotta sort out what wind colony's territory actually is#cause it's a bit close to the sea to be a tundra#then i'll figure out his name based on the flora and fauna found in their home range :)#syd says stuff#the-seaborne-au#seaborne: [rusty]#seaborne: [silverstream]#seaborne: [onewhisker]

If anyone wants to know what happens with Rusty on the boat, just watch the scene with Fievel from An American Tail (1986). It was part of what inspired Rusty to go on a boat in the first place ;)

So, for those who've been paying attention to the small amount of information I've given away regarding the world and story of Seaborne, you will have noticed that there are 5 clowders. These were/are River Clowder, Shade Clowder, Timber Clowder, Thunder Clowder, and Wind Clowder. Originally, I wanted to include Thunder Clowder as Seaborne's version of SkyClan, but I'm cutting them out. There's really just no room in the plot for them, nor would it be smart to try to make room. I'm already (at this point anyway) struggling to decide exactly how to include the Winds and Timbers, given that my plot currently is very centered around the Rivers and Shades. I just think I'd be spreading myself too thin in terms of my ability to construct a good narrative if I try and incorporate 5 Clowders into the plot. Apologies to anyone who got excited at the concept of SkyClan existing in the first arc. I'll probably keep some of its main characters in my back pocket in case I need to fill out the allegiances or improve the bloodlines of certain characters :)
#wind clowder doesn't get chased out in seaborne because they are significantly stronger than in canon#so rusty/flameheart currently has no reason to get all buddy-buddy with them yet#and that is a problem for other plot reasons lmao#the-seaborne-au#seaborne: story

After some further thought, I've decided to be more specific about the regions that I'm drawing inspiration from for Seaborne. I was always drawing inspiration from British Columbia and the Alexander Archipelago, but my specific inspirations are now Haida Gwaii and Baranof Island. Yes, I know these landmasses are miles apart. Still, they have similar Koppen Climate Classifications and are part of the same continuous temperate rainforest if we generalize a little bit lmao. I know that people won't particularly care about this, but if you want to get a better idea of what the area the Clowders live in looks like, just look up these places. I'd also recommend looking up Tongass National Forest ;)

So! If I'm following things right, the cats spend time at sea but also have camps on land, right? That or just Rusty was on a boat and my imagination incorrectly went wild with the idea of cats sailing regularly. If I am on the right track, though, how much time do they tend to spend at sea vs on land, and what do they do in each place usually?
Hello hello! You're correct in a roundabout way. Rusty getting on a boat is a factor that is completely disconnected from the environment the Clowders inhabit. However, unlike Warriors canon, the Clowders also have regular access to the sea as they live on a peninsula. Three Clowders in particular have easy access to the coast: River Clowder, Shade Clowder, and Thunder Clowder. The other Clowders --- Wind Clowder and Timber Clowder --- rarely interact with the ocean due to the geography of their territory and home ranges.
So, the cats don't sail (they're quadrupedal, so they're not quite advanced enough for that kind of motor control), but they do interact with water significantly more than the Clans in canon. River Clowder's home range, in particular, is around half "solid" land and half various rings of island made by impact craters a very, very long time ago ;)

this is a question i love asking but i know u r early on in stuff but..
if rusty was in miitopia, what class would he be?
its my fav nintendo game btw lol
-Lunar
Right, so this is the point where I reveal that I live under a giant rock lmao. I actually have never played a Nintendo game, nor do I really know anything about Nintendo at all. However, with my basic research looking at the Miitopia Wiki page about Jobs, I'll try my best to give an answer. In terms of what Rusty's class/job would be based on his personality and skills, probably a Scientist. Rusty is a problem-solver by nature who makes up for his small size with his ability to recognize patterns and be extremely resourceful and innovative. He's not impressing any cat with his skills at combat or hunting, but he works around it with his charm and intellect. Also, as an added bonus, Seaborne's Ravenpaw would be a Flower ;)

So I've just come to the realization that not everyone may be aware of @north-american-warriors. If you're basing your Warriors rewrite/AU or xenomoggy in a North American setting or are just taking inspiration from North America, then this is incredibly useful. They've compiled over 1,000 possible prefixes based on the species and environments found all across North America, which has helped make my life significantly easier, so I recommend you check it out :)

Are there any laws? what are things that each clowder follows and is punished for breaking said laws?
Also, can you give a rough overview of each clowder? :0 i think the ideas you've shared are very cool and am interested to do some thinky thinking
-Lunar
Hello hello! I'll be breaking this down into two parts to answer :)
1. Are there any laws? What are the things that each Clowder follows and is punished for breaking said laws? Again, this is a WIP, so all of this information is subject to change, but the law system that the Clowders in Seaborne follow is definitely different from those in Warriors canon. Generally speaking, there is a creed (i'm still deciding on a name for it) that all the Clowders follow, but it is mostly focused on basic laws. Y'know, the laws that say 'don't kill cats from other Clowders, please' and 'don't train cubs who are only 2 moons old.' It serves as a code of honor, of sorts, that is part of what binds the Clowders together, despite their distinct groups, and helps ensure their survival. That being said, the reason the Clowders are this way is far more complex than a simple creed and has much more to do with their history than anything else. This 'creed' also doesn't cover every law that the Clowders abide by, as there are some things that are simply unspoken or that are relegated to individual Clowders because of their culture. For example, each Clowder has fairly strict laws surrounding hunting to maintain prey populations, which differ in availability and population size from season to season. In terms of punishments, it tends to differ from Clowder to Clowder and is also significantly affected by external factors, such as the political situation. I'll definitely be making a post discussing the specifics of the law system once I have it written down and confirmed, so stay tuned for that :) 2. Can you give a rough overview of each Clowder? Sure! Unlike in Warriors canon as of TPB, there are five Clowders currently living in the area where Seaborne takes place. These include the following; - River Clowder, who lives in the south-western forest in the area. They are Seaborne's version of RiverClan and the "protagonist Clowder" of the story for the most part. River Clowder is currently ruled by Seaborne's version of Crookedstar, with Seaborne's versions of Timberfur and Shimmerpelt acting as his deputy and envoy respectively. - Shade Clowder, who lives in the southern wetland in the area. They are Seaborne's version of ShadowClan. Shade Clowder is currently ruled by Seaborne's version of Raggedstar, and their deputy and envoy are currently undecided. Raggedstar's heir is a combination of Marigoldkit and Volewhisper. -Timber Clowder, who lives along the cliffs and in the sparse forest in the southeast. They are Seaborne's version of ThunderClan. Timber Clowder is currently ruled by Seaborne's version of Redtail, and their deputy and envoy are currently undecided. Redtail also currently has his eye on a possible successor ;) -Thunder Clowder, who lives in the rest of the sparse forest along the coast in the southeast. They are Seaborne's version of SkyClan. The Thunder Clowder's leadership is still undecided as I'm finalizing who will actually be in the Clowder and what the Clowder's role in the story will be. -And finally, Wind Clowder, who lives on the plateau and hills in the north. They are Seaborne's version of WindClan. Wind Clowder is currently ruled by Seaborne's version of Tallstar and, again, their deputy and envoy are currently undecided. All of these characters' names are not finalized, as I'm still compiling a list of prefixes, so I'm listing their canon names for the time being. As a result of my working pretty much exclusively on researching prefixes, the allegiances are WIP too. For those who are curious, Seaborne is set in an environment inspired by British Columbia, so the forests mentioned above are either temperate rainforest (River Clowder) or sparse taiga-like forest (Shade, Timber, and Thunder Clowder).

Hi, here from Iterum! What's the rank structure like in this AU? Is it the same as canon Warriors, or are there changes in Seaborne?
Welcome! I absolutely love this question, as I think Warriors definitely missed an opportunity with ranks in the canon. The Erins made a simple concept, and while I don't think we should all add a million different ranks to our AU's, I do think various ranks are fun as a concept to explore, specifically in regards to apprentices. The struggles of figuring out your career path is very relatable for many audiences.
Getting to the actual answer to your question though, the Seaborne rank system does differ a bit from the canon and the way these ranks operate also varies from Clowder to Clowder. For example, the Wind Clowder lives in a harsh environment, so their ranks are more focused on practicality than the other Clowders, who live in the Lowlands and are fairly sheltered. Each Clowder has a Warden who operates as the leader of the Clowder, though the method of selecting a Warden is different depending on the Clowder. The Shade Clowder established a dynastic system a couple generations back, so their Warden is selected from birth based on bloodline. In contrast, the Timber Clowder combines the role of Warden and Cleric, meaning that their Warden is spiritually chosen. In addition to a Warden, each Clowder has a Deputy and Envoy, who act as the second and third-in-command. Their roles do not differ significantly from each other, but the Deputy is typically relegated to working within a Clowder's territory and home range, whereas an Envoy may be sent all over the place. Similar to the canon, the Deputy and Envoy organize the Initiates and act as advisors to the Warden. In some Clowders, the Deputy and Envoy may be second and third in line for the position of Warden. Then, as aforementioned, each Clowder has at least one Cleric (unless things are really bad). Clerics are the spiritual advisors and healers of the Clowder, though their power within their Clowder varies. For example, the Wind Clowder typically doesn't value the spiritual advice of a Cleric over the practical advice of an Envoy. The other two formal ranks in the Clowders are Initiates and Novitiates, or more simply the adults who've been trained and the teens or kids who are to young to train or are in training. Initiates also have seperate ranks, such as Medic, Guard, Nurse, etc, but these are typically not as rigid as the ranks of the Synod (Warden, Deputy, etc). That being said, the River Clowder does definitively seperate the ranks of the their Initiates between those that operate in freshwater and marine water systems. In terms of Novitiates, the ranks are divided into Cub, Junior Novitiate, and Senior Novitiate. Junior Novitiates are young cats receiving their basic training in hunting, defense, etc, whilst Senior Novitiates are receiving specialized training in specific fields, such as offense, healing, etc. Not every cat is expected to enter a specialized rank, but it's generally expected that you play to your strengths as your survival depends on it. Cubs are pretty self-explanatory :)
There are also Queens, which is a temporary role that operates in basically the same way to the canon series and Elders, though it is rare for a cat to reach an age where they could become an Elder given the many dangers of living in the wilderness.
I hope that was what you were looking for! Seaborne is definitely still a WIP, so all of this is subject to change, and I do plan to add more when I'm a bit clearer on the direction I want to go with Clowder culture, but I think this is pretty much the basic system that the story will operate with :)
#i'll make a more formal post regarding the rank system down the line when i've confirmed everything :)#ask: comettail76#the-seaborne-au#seaborne: rank system

YAYYYY
so like... whats the goal? whats the theme of the story and stuuf?
also are u writing a fic for this or...?
sorry im doin a lil dance
-Lunar
Hello hello! Don't apologize! I have no problems with receiving asks at all. It's actually very exciting for me to have people to talk to about my ideas. I'll break this down into three parts to answer :) 1. What's the goal? Seaborne is definitely a labor of love rather than anything extremely serious. Warriors has been a hyperfixation of mine since 2019, and I've wanted to make an AU incorporating all my favorite things for a long time. In addition, my life is about to get pretty hectic, and I REALLY need a creative outlet to cope lmao. 2. What's the theme of the story? So, keep in mind that Seaborne is still quite early in development, so the details of the story are still quite fuzzy and subject to change. With that said though, the themes/topics I want Seaborne to focus on are fairly clear in my mind. There'll be LOTS of political drama, especially relating to the history of the Clowders, alongside the more obvious themes of hope, corruption, power, morality, etc. I think the most major theme I want to focus on though, is the difference between "good" and "evil." In a world where everything is gray, where do we draw the line? 3. Am I writing a fic for this? If I'm being honest, probably not. As I said, my life is about to get very hectic and I don't want to add any of the extra stress of writing a fic to that. There's a chance I'll write scenes for fun though and who knows, maybe I'll turn this into a fic somewhere down the line! I definitely wouldn't be opposed to the idea once my life isn't quite so crazy :)
