I was reading the pilot chapter of TSHD and one thing caught my attention: "Hikaru" mentions that he took anyone the Indou family liked unless they got married

And the feelings of the og Hikaru (which he repressed out of fear of Unuki-sama) come out with full force thanks to "Hikaru", who is Unuki-sama

So i'm afraid to think that maybe without knowing it, "Hikaru" is consuming Yoshiki and fulfilling the prophecy...

BUT "Hikaru" is part of the Indou family now, in a way. So to free Yoshiki from Unuki-sama's influence, they would have to get married?

One silly thing that makes me giggle is how Hikaru's ancestor suffered horrors trying to revive his wife, giving anything in return, cursing his own family, and still his request backfired

AND THEN COMES HIKARU, he manages to revive himself (in a way) and even when he loses his head (just like his female ancestor) he manages to connect it back hahahahaha IT WILL NEVER BE NOT FUNNY TO ME

I lowkey wanted to see "Hikaru's" relationship with his new mama

Does she find it strange that he's more affectionate? Or distant? Does he feel some attachment to his new mother?

And she probably thinks these little changes in behavior are just teenage stuff...

TSHD: about the couple's future

I've seen many theories, from those who read the manga, that Yoshiki's and especially Hikaru's ending won't be happy

I mean, it makes sense right? Most LGBT stories for young audiences end in disaster. Either one of them dies, usually the happiest one... or they separate.

But i have a feeling that MAYBE tshd is inverting this trope. Death begins this story, and through it a being who is not afraid to feel is born

And it makes sense that he's a monster, doesn't it? Because that's how all people who are freely themselves are seen... and the more time Yoshiki spends with him, the more he turns into a "monster" too

So i would love to see the author take this concept further, two impure beings (in the eyes of most people) living happily in this world

But i won't be shocked if the ending is completely the opposite haha but i think there's already too many stories of gays suffering, we've seen it a thousand times!

For me, this scene actually tells the viewer more about what kind of story we’re in for than anything else has, so far.

In the horror genre, it’s a common trope to have the monster (or human killer) kill cats, dogs, or other small animals. It’s meant to be a precursor for the death (or threat of death) of a human character. Therefore, whenever a small animal—like our favorite stray cat, Mince-aniki—makes repeat appearances, the first impulse as a horror enjoyer is to wonder when/if the monster is gonna kill that cat.

(I personally hate this trope, as it’s never actually scary or thought-provoking, but is rather used for shock value, and to upset the viewer. It doesn’t create tension like well-written horror does, it only serves to disturb the viewer on a cheap, shallow level that rarely makes the plot any better or more compelling).

However, “Hikaru” approaches the stray with a completely different mindset.

He wants the cat to like him, he feeds it, he tries to perfect "interacting with cat" behavior, along with his other attempts to blend in as a human. And Hikaru's memories have supplied him with how the villagers see Mince-aniki: they love him, they feed him scraps, and the cat is affectionate to the villagers who give him food.

In other words: "Hikaru" wants the human experience of playing with and earning the trust of a stray kitty cat.

It's endearing, of course, but it's the polar opposite of what most horror fans would come to expect from an eldritch monster with unknown origins and motives. Most horror stories would have the monster sizing up the animal, or seeing it as prey, or food, or even an inconvenience.

Does this mean the humans of the village are safe? Not really. But horror is done best when it's 3-dimensional, when there are layers to the reasons why the entity does what it does. And he has no need to kill the village cat. Why would he? The fact that "Hikaru" would rather learn how to pet it—would rather earn it's affection, it's love—is much, much more telling.

The Summer Hikaru Died is like. what if you believed you were a disgusting monster for being gay. but then you meet a real monster, and over time you start to believe that even this monster deserves to be safe and happy, and it's the first time you start allowing yourself to believe that maybe you do too. what if I cried one million tears forever
