Folklore
AU.
"I always thought that vampires cannot stand sunlight."
They were in Van Helsing´s study. Marianne sat in the armchair, leafing through The Karnsteins of Styria by a Mlle de LaFontaine. A gilded, rose-patterned coffee cup steamed on the table in front of her; Van Helsing´s housekeeper Vera had been waiting for them, set coffee, and returned to sleep.
”Another common fallacy.” Van Helsing sipped his coffee; Marianne looked up, and Van Helsing smiles. ”All this nonsense about pale, thin aristocrats, or silver, or drinking the blood of a vampire to become one? It is all nonsense – popular in fiction but nonsense nevertheless.”
Marianne looked at the illustration. The lithograph showed a man in the open coffin – a fat, red-faced peasant in the picturesque dress. She turned the page.

Dracula

Klausenberg, 1888
The inn's waitress was young, slender, and linen-haired. She was from Bavaria, and unlike the locals, she was ready to answer Van Helsing´s questions.
Yes, there had been strange deaths in the area. A somewhat lascivious young guest, Alfred, had been staked at the pole of the inn gate. And an American big game hunter, a Texan called Quincey P Morris, had been torn to pieces by wolves.
"Torn, not eaten. And both had the same bruise on their necks." The blonde turned her head and tapped two fingers under her left ear. "Same blue mark."
She bent over Van Helsing´s stein. "And no blood.

Door 18 ~ Protecting from the darkness ~
Tumblr media
Van Helsing x wife!reader
warning: kissing, fluff
summary: When the full moon rises and London is bathed in an icy white, small snowflakes fall down on the houses of the inhabitants. Shadows creep around and Vah Hellsing promises once more to take care of his beloved even in such happy times as Christmas.
info: The doors are getting fewer and fewer, but Peter Cushin needed one too, I hope you enjoy it ;)
masterlist ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The moon hung high over London, a white cold light like the sun would feel on the many inhabitants of the industrialized city. A city with as much life as death, an eternal clockwork that all woke up in the morning with the sun and went to sleep when the moon rose.
The workers, the rich, the mayor, the royal family and even the starving beggars and lost souls disappeared into the alleys… only one remained in the shadows, feasting on it and seeming to grow stronger the more victims he managed to seize.
A power that only had one opponent in the form of a man named Van Helsin, a man who had often stood up for the people against evil, but above all a man who, in addition to his skill and victory, was notorious for his love for his wife.
From the warmest words written in letters in squiggly ink, to the sweet gifts he sent her on his travels, or the endless photographs that adorned the walls of the house they shared, a house that was full of life.
,,I hope I'm not disturbing you, my love?” he asked after knocking on her door. He had returned a few minutes ago from a short shopping trip and said goodbye to her at the library.
Her gaze lifted from the books of his studies, a gentle smile lit up his heart and he saw his sun, all the warmth seemed to fill him. ,,No, you would never be able to disturb me,” she replied, rising as she came to meet him, his gloved hand gently placed under hers as they both made their way back to the living room.
He always held her when they walked, out of love and care. He wanted to catch her if she stumbled, when she laughed and threatened to tip over in the euphoria.
He loved everything about her. ,,It's cold outside… …but I found something sweet too,” he confessed, grinning at her curious glance as he adjusted the chair for her and placed a gentle kiss on the back of her hand.
She heard the rustling of paper as he took off his cloth gloves and he just said, ,,Please, my sun, close your eyes.” She complied with this request, excitement sprang up inside her, butterflies threatened to flutter up as she smelled something sweet that mixed with his scent, almost like warm tea.
Before something cool touched her lips and she took the object into her mouth, ,,Mhhh chocolate” she murmured and looked at the heart-shaped packaging that he held out to her and he also got a piece from her.
The couple joined them in the living room and snuggled in bed, eating chocolate as the little white flakes continued to fall.
But he always knew that when he looked at her, the cross necklace would protect her, he would protect her above all, and the devil would not destroy this Christmas.
It would be a Christmas full of love before he placed another gentle kiss on her cheek.

In Horror of Dracula, "Aunt" Lucy, smiling and fanged, leads little Tania through that wonderful Hammer wood. The sequence bristles with suggestions of witchcraft, with forbidden knowledge passed down through generations of women, suggestions more potent because Tania is a new character: Stoker's Lucy abducted a little Cockney boy who leamed nothing from her, but only burbled about her beauty as the men did. The Hammer Lucy is not an antimaternal seductress of men, but a subverter of women.
