ooc: …It’s been a while hasn’t it? I’m sorry I’ve been so absent on this blog. I pretty much had no motivation to write via tumblr… but rereading some of my old threads sparked some muse at least. I won’t be as active as I was in the past, but Ill slowly start working on my asks and drafts depending on my muse level.
Tumblr media
Thanks to that one anon who sent me an ask as Naraku. Idk if you check this blog out anymore but I’ll get Byakuya’s response out soon! That ask made my day, so thank you for that! 😊

the timeline in which something very little happened differently, but it changed a lot. /post/654650829224165376
Send me  ‘ timeline ’  and a number and i will tell you how my muse and their life would have turned out in a life slightly altered compared to their canon one—same universe, but where something little, or something big, went differently.
11. The timeline in which something very little happened differently, but it changed a lot.
Naraku was gone.
Byakuya had seen his creator’s death with his own eyes. Kagome’s arrow whizzing through the shell of miasma and piercing the shikon jewel along with Naraku himself. The dream demon’s heart nearly stopped in his chest, time seeming to slow to a crawl.
Naraku
All he could do was helplessly watch, unable to do anything for his creator. He watched Kagome get swallowed by the meido zangestuha, Inuyasha recklessly rushing in to save her. He witnessed Inuyasha’s return and time passed, the world gradually returning to a state of normalcy... for everyone but Byakuya.
What purpose did he have now without Naraku? The dream demon touched down at Naraku’s old hideout, strolling into the darkness of the shrine. It felt too empty... too hollow. His feet took him to Naraku’s old room before he could stop himself, as if some part of his heart longed for his creator to be there. But of course, the room was vacant. He stepped toward a lone sheet of black paper next to a pot of lotus flowers. The dream demon then picked it up and began to fold.
A few moments later, a black paper spider sat in his hand. Indigo orbs, vacant and filled with resolve, then drifted to the white lowering buds in the pot and picked one. With the two objects in his hands, he sat them both next to each other on the window shelf. The light and the dark. Heaven and earth. Two opposites bound together by fate. A sad smile pulled on the corners of Byakuya’s lips, his eyes closing momentarily in thought.
“Goodbye, Naraku”
With that, the dream demon turned on his heal to the entrance of the room. The once darkened hallway filled with beams of warm light from the setting sun. Nimble fingers slipping into his kosode to pull out an origami crane as he walked toward the light illuminating the exit.
Tumblr media
Byakuya didn’t know where he was going to go or what meaning his life had now. All he knew was he had to search for that which he lost. It may take a few days, weeks, months or even years, but there was a glimmer of resolve deep in his heart that one day... he would find it.

Frowning briefly, Sango took a glance at his profile. It made sense that Naraku would refine his next incarnation after the handful that had planned to betray him. But this incarnation usually kept his distance, either observing them or dropping by to promote the chaos they were dealing with, and she doesn’t know him well enough to judge his character.
“Is it?” She did know better than to take whatever he says at face value. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to study him and draw a clear line. “Kagura, Kanna, Hakudoushi, and the infant- they were all of his pawns too.” By standing up against him, they had proved that they were their own person, despite being born from the hanyou’s flesh. From what she has seen, Naraku couldn’t expect strict obedience without something to leash them back.
She sighed softly. Of course, it didn’t seem like Naraku cared either way. Regardless of what they tried to do, they ended up crushed under his foot, and she could only watch them fade away. It was twisted- how their deaths seemed to affect everyone else more than their own creator. “That’s why I find it hard to believe. Unless you’re some mindless creature or a husk of a demon, you must have a will of your own.”
Tumblr media
But it could be that simple. He could be just as uncaring and cruel as his master, for all she knew. Sango chanced one more critical glance in an attempt to read his expression. “But- it’s because of what happened to them that I wouldn’t blame you.” It just made them enemies, without a shadow of a doubt. With the jewel nearly complete, she couldn’t afford to offer pity to someone like that.
Of course, he would always follow Naraku’s orders. Not because of fear or hate, but genuine care. Ever since his creation, he shared a special link with Naraku. A link that allowed him to take a glimpse into the spider’s very soul. For such a wicked being, it intrigued him to see such loneliness residing within the other’s heart. He didn’t know why the spider felt the way he did, but Byakuya knew he wished to help his creator fill the hole in his heart.
“I will say that I don’t know much about the incarnations that I haven’t met. However, they were fools for betraying Naraku” he replied bluntly, the slightest bit of distaste filling his tone. He was sure they knew what would happen to them if they did, though that’s not to say Naraku wouldn’t kill them off even if followed orders. It was a sad reality he knew all too well.
A perceptive one, wasn’t she? The dream demon’s brows furrowed subtly. Of course, she had been right. However, his motivations were his and his alone. They hobbled along, the last phrase the woman uttered made indigo orbs glance toward her skeptically. “You wouldn’t blame me for what?”

It was simply by chance that she saved their enemy. She had seen the youkai targeting something, its shrill cry startling the wildlife around her as it circled the air. As an exterminator, Sango felt the need to investigate and took off, worried that it may have been a human that the youkai hunted down. That’s when it dove and she had no other choice, a shout of effort escaping her as she threw her weapon with all of her strength. It tore down tree after tree before slicing clean through the youkai, tearing through more of the forest before making its way back to her.
Then she came across Byakuya on the ground, much to her surprise. Her next step forward became more cautious, her brows raised as she surveyed the area, not quite believing the chances. Her eyes narrowed down at him when he responded to her concern. “Not at all. If I knew who it was attacking, I wouldn’t have bothered.”
Tumblr media
She’s not so sure that she could be so heartless. Yet, at the very least, she did quirk a small smile when Byakuya fell flat on his face. Stabbing Hiraikotsu into the ground and choosing to close the distance, she knelt a foot away from his body, arms crossed around her middle as she peered down at him. “Are you sure you can even stand? If so, I’ll be on my way. The youkai here seem particularly aggressive and hungry around these parts.”

When do you Gaze at your Soulmate?
Tumblr media
When They're Unaware
They don't always see you. but that's a good thing. this is when you love them most. when they are so absorbed in their thoughts you can just sit there and enjoy them existing. it's the way they move through the world which made you fall in love. the grace with which they walk their path. the stubbornness. the dedication. they know their place in the universe and somehow, that makes you feel a little more confident in your existence too. they know who and what they are and there is nothing more beautiful to you than the ability to witness it all. in the simple things and the big things. the expressions they make when they think no one is looking. the way they laugh when they're not holding back. the little swears under their breath for no one but themselves. you love it all and you want to spend the rest of your life being their life's witness.

Byakuya: Are you sure of this, Naraku? Either way, it was a close call. If they get to Moryomaru it will cost you your safety. Your heart is hidden inside him after all.
THIS QUOTE. Okay, out of all the incarnations, Byakuya is the only one to actually show concern for Naraku’s safety. It’s sad they didn‘t include this scene in the anime because it shows a glimpse at how different Byakuya is from the other incarnations.

She should have expected that. The urge to drop him was high, making her double down on her efforts to keep him steady by tightening her grip. She was comforted with the fact that it would only take a move of her wrist to deploy her hidden blade. “Nothing good at all,” she confirmed under her breath.
Sango focused solely on the path ahead of her, keeping alert for any more youkai on the prowl. “I was on my way back to my friends,” she answered, deeming that no more explanation was necessary. Not that Kagome had returned beyond the well, nor that she thought it would be a good time to visit her village on her own. She could assume that Byakuya wouldn’t explain his side any further if she pressed, either.
Tumblr media
“He wouldn’t have saved you,” she stated, nearly posed as a question, “even if he hadn’t expected you to fall to a lesser youkai.” No, Naraku would simply create another in his place- or rid himself of incarnations entirely. From his track record, she’s sure of it. “So, what makes you loyal to him?”
Byakuya continued to make his way forward with the slayer’s help. Her answer was short, but he didn’t expect anything more. They were enemies after all and too much disclosure would only prove fatal.
At her callous words, the dream demon discreetly furrowed in annoyance. It was obvious Naraku didn’t care for him, but every time the fact was brought up it was like a knife stabbing into his heart. Despite accepting his life as an incarnation long ago, having the truth brought up did nothing to alleviate his pain.
“Oh? Aren’t we clever?” Byakuya mocked, sarcasm dripping in his voice as he spoke. Indigo eyes trained on the forested path ahead of him, avoiding the slayer‘s gaze if she happened to glance upon him.
Tumblr media
“I am his pawn. It’s really that simple” Byakuya replied without much emotion, a practiced technique he often used to conceal his real thoughts from Naraku. He had been around his creator long enough to grow wary of trusting others, especially the enemy of his creator. Besides, sharing the lethal truth that he harbored love for Naraku would be the death of him if the spider found out. Besides, who says that Sango wouldn’t use his truth to hurt him?

ooc: Guys... I just realized something. Remember that scene where Byakuya finds Kohaku, poisons him and tries to remove his shard? Byakuya explicitly states he needed to taint the shard before delivering Kohaku to Naraku. Yet, he leans down to grab it right when Sesshomaru shows up.
I wonder if the venom in those snakes were used not to taint the shard, but to paralyze Kohaku. Either that or Byakuya “inherited” Naraku’s sadistic side... but I want to go with the former.

Sango breathed a sigh when he came to a decision, unsure what she had expected. She didn’t know this incarnation well enough to make assumptions and, if it had anything to do with Naraku at all, it would be foolish of her to lower her guard. On the other hand, he didn’t seem to be much of a threat- behaving more like Naraku’s eyes and ears while setting off trouble when the pieces are in the right position. Especially when he could barely stand on his own.
“Hold on,” she insisted when he struggled. Standing, she ran over to Hiraikotsu and pulled its leather strap to rest across her chest, the weight of her weapon steady on her back. Then she returned to Byakuya’s injured side and took his arm, guiding it around her shoulders so that he could use her to brace himself. Her other hand wrapped around his waist for support. “Okay, ready? One, two…”
Tumblr media
She kept a steady grip on him, wincing with sympathy at the state of his injury. It wasn’t the best plan of action, but she didn’t have any medical supplies on her- not for something so grievous. She would have to count on his youkai strength to bear the pain for a bit. “What were you doing around here, anyway?” she asked, just to keep his focus up, “nothing good, I presume.”
Byakuya allowed the demon slayer to assist him, clutching onto her shoulder to brace himself as she clutched his waist for further support. “Yes” he nodded, steeling himself for what was to come. The incarnation did his best to hobble forward, wincing slightly as a sharp pain filled his leg. But he continued to move forward along with her, the quiet silence being broken between them almost a moment later.
Tumblr media
“I was following an order given to me from Naraku” he replied simply, not giving away much more of his story. He had in fact collected a shard of the Shikon Jewel that was safely tucked away in his kosode in which he had been taking to Naraku. Perhaps that’s why the demon attacked him in a first place before the slayer had found him. But she of all people did not need to hear all the details of his tale.
“I could ask you the same thing”

FOR A MOMENT SHE WANTED TO LAUGH at this demon’s audacity. He dared threaten her?! She might have been hurt before, but it was not like Naraku could not find her and fight her if he so desired. But no, the bastard was a coward, always hiding in the shadows like a vermin. She highly doubted he would do as Byakuya said and simply attack her upon discovering her location. But anyway, she was curious about what he could possible want to know.
Tumblr media
❝VERY WELL, YOU MAY ASK ME WHATEVER you want, and I shall try to answer as honestly as possible.❞ Grey eyes remained emotionless as her calm voice hung in the air. Depending on what he may ask, Kikyo could have a better idea of what schemes he had in mind.
Naraku may not strike immediately if Byakuya reported Kikyo’s whereabouts, but that would only serve as an advantage to his creator. The spider himself was always meticulous, careful only to attack when he knew he had the advantage. Some may consider it cowardly, but in Byakuya’s mind it was a rather intelligent strategy. Naraku never let his own arrogance overshadow his abilities and that was the very thing that kept him alive. Naraku was a poison... a slow acting one at that. One that would attack and eradicate the priestess before she even knew what hit her.
Tumblr media
The corner of Byakuya’s lips discreetly curled up in satisfaction at the woman’s compliance. “Tell me about your relationship to Naraku fifty years ago~”
Starter for @holified
How was it possible he sensed a great evil within Naraku... but a flicker of loneliness as well?
Byakuya frowned, arms crossing within his sleeves as he flew across the skies upon his origami crane. The question had intrigued him ever since his creation when he first sensed the opposing forces within Naraku’s body. Despite the urge to voice his feelings and the inquiry hidden deep within his person however, Byakuya never dared to mention his thoughts to his creator. After all, he knew the consequences of voicing such thoughts.
Byakuya’s thoughts eventually lead him to where he was now in his search for answers. The incarnation only knew of one individual who might know the answers he sought and he had every intention of finding her. Just then, a glimmer of silver caught his gaze just as it vanished into the tree line. Indigo orbs narrowed as he moved to follow it, eventually landing on the forest floor.
There is was, a lone eel like demon clutching a glowing ball of light. It soared above a lone priestess sitting at the base of a large tree before dropping the light into the woman’s chest. So, this was the woman Naraku sought to kill... Kikyo.
Tumblr media
He had found her...
