Tips for New Adults Part 4 | Part 3 | Part 2 | Part 1
Learn to type properly on an actual keyboard, and if you have the option to use a computer rather than a mobile device, use it. Many jobs require standard computing skills, and being a good typist will make you a workplace god (this is hyperbole, but you get the point).
At some point in your life you’re likely to get hemorrhoids. They’re awful and if you don’t know what’s happening, pretty scary. They’re usually relatively harmless, but it’s important to know when they require a doctors visit
Learn some knife skills, and rather than buying a five knife set invest in one good quality chef’s knife and keep it sharp with both a steel and a stone. If you really don’t want to use those for sharpening (or are physically unable to do so) at least get one of those tools that suction to your bench because blunt knives are dangerous AF
Chopped tinned tomatoes are the most versatile thing you can have in your pantry, and the cheapest ones are fine
Performing activism on social media doesn’t by default make you a good person. If you see behavior in the real world that needs to be corrected (and it’s safe to do so) call it out. You’ll probably have a fight or flight response, and you’ll likely be shaking from adrenaline afterwards. This is normal.
You can always learn from generations before you. You can’t go back in time and fix things, it’s better to learn critical thinking skills than to ignore awful events.
Fashion is fleeting, and anyone who gives you a hard time for not conforming doesn’t deserve your friendship
Home ownership is great, but it comes with plenty of downsides. It’s okay if it’s not your dream.
If you’re a meat eater, learn about portion sizes. You don’t need anywhere near as much red meat per meal as we’ve been conditioned to believe
Don’t believe those blog posts that tell you to have everything in digital format rather than physical. If having a shelf full of books/dvds/records brings you joy, then that’s awesome!
Try and get all your statements and bills via email if you can. There’s nothing worse than being sent to a debt collector for something that was sent to the wrong address
Have a ‘forever email’ and a ‘spam email’. Your forever email is the one that you use for anything of key importance that you’ll need access to forever - family/friend communications, receiving bills and bank statements, and using to re-set passwords. Your spam email is the one you use to sign up for newsletters and mailing lists. If you’re not sure whether or not your email is going to get pwned, err on the side of caution and use the spam email.
You do not need to peel your veggies. It’s actually more nutritious not to. I haven’t peeled a vegetable (other than like, a pumpkin) in about 20 years
Buy socks made from natural fibres. Sweaty feet are the legit worst.
You don’t necessarily need to shower every day. Shower when you feel you need to. Some people go days without bathing and they smell fine!
It’s way cheaper to buy dried herbs and spices in bulk than in the little packs you get at the supermarket, just make sure you store them in a light and air tight container

Tips for New Adults Part 3 | Part 2 | Part 1
Take a job in the service or retail industries at least once in your life, even if it’s one day a week for a few months. Everyone needs to understand what it’s like to be on the other side of the counter
If you have pets prone to chewing on things, check for toxicity before buying house plants (and cleaning chemicals). That cyclamen your parents got you for Christmas is not good for your doggo
If your curtains are open and you have your lights on, yes everyone can see inside your house. Particularly if it’s dark outside.
Vacuum your rugs from the underside as well as the top, it gets the dust out better. Going old school and beating the dust out with a broom handle is also an A+ solution. If they need a wash and you have access to a car, then take them to your nearest self service carwash and blast them with the jet sprayer (strap it to the roof of the car on the way home)
Don’t be an asshole to someone because it makes you feel superior. You look like a dick
Learn the basics of computing - how to google something effectively, basic hardware and software terminology, keeping yourself safe online, understanding what cloud storage is and what the consequences of losing access are, and most importantly how to set up two factor authentication and how to reset a password using it.
Be reassured that none of us really know what the hell we’re doing and are just making it up as we go along. You’ll learn something new every day and that’s a good thing
Learn the soft and hard reboot sequences for your phone. You never know when it’s going to freeze on you at the worst possible time
Buy local when you can. Supporting local businesses keeps your community economically stable, diverse, and interesting
Don’t be afraid to hold people accountable for their actions. If someone hurts you, you have every right to tell them why, and how they can do better next time
Keep a record of any time you provide constructive feedback to your employer. This way when something happens (or you resign because of a negative culture) and your boss says ‘if you had brought this to our attention sooner’ you can pull out the receipts
Join. The. Union.
Don’t buy in to celebrity culture. They’re just doing their jobs like the rest of us, and the world would be a boring place without arts and entertainment
Some of the media that give you the most joy will be what others consider ‘trashy’. Keep liking that stuff, don’t let others define what is allowed to make you happy
Vote. It’s an opportunity to shape the world you live in
Vacuum your couch once a month. They’re dust and crumb collectors
Turn off all your appliances except for your fridge before going away for more than a couple of days
If you use an electric blanket, don’t remove it at the end of winter and store it away, just leave it on the bed year round. Folding it up can damage the wiring inside and increases the risk of fire and electrocution

Tips for New Adults Part 2 | Part 1
It’s okay to use public transport your whole life. You’re not less of an adult because you don’t have a license
Invest in a vacuum sealer, you’ll waste less food and be able to buy more things in bulk
You’ll feel like you’re constantly doing laundry. Trust me on this, fold and put away after every load. You thought you were feeling low now, wait until you have a months worth of floordrobe and can’t find any clean underwear
Buy. Original. Art. Don’t spend eighty bucks on that mass produced Ikea print, spend seventy bucks at a local art market and the other ten at Ikea getting a frame
You don’t need to clean your windows nobody gives a shit if they’re dirty. Do it once a year and leave it at that.
The best way to make your whole house feel clean quickly is to give it a vacuum. Oh, and invest in a good vacuum with a power head (rotating brush), particularly if you have a dust allergy. There are heaps of good brands for low prices, don’t let the brand names get you!
Before you bust out your seasonal blankets and bedding, wash them first. Those things are dusty AF after six months under your bed
Wash your pillows at least twice a year, your face is on them for eight hours a day those things get naaasty
Vented dryers are better than using drying racks. When you dry something on a drying rack all that moisture goes into the air in your home and contributes to condensation. It also makes your home harder to heat. You’re better spending 50c on a load of drying than taking up half your living room with a drying rack and getting sick all the time.
If your home is damp and you’re not in a position to rectify the problem or to move, then get a cheap dehumidifier. It will change your life.
Please, please PLEASE air your house out at least once a week unless its completely unbearable to do so. Open all the windows and doors and let the air through
Tell your neighbours if you’re having a party. Invite them if it’s appropriate. They’re less likely to call noise control on you and there’s nothing worse than petty neighbourhood disputes that make you feel like you can’t play music at 2 in the afternoon
Buy some basic hand and power tools - Hammer, screwdriver set + ratchet screwdriver, impact driver, powerdrill, and a hand saw you never know when you’ll need them, and lending them to people is a great way to gain a favour
You only need two pots - a skillet deep enough to double as a simmering pan, and a big (and I mean BIG) pot to cook things like pasta and stocks in. Don’t fuck about with those five pan sets, you’ll only ever use one or two of them. Spend the same amount of money on two good pans that you’ll actually use
Food tastes better with good cutlery. Go to the thrift stores and buy some nice silverware
If you live with other people, you all have to do your fair share of the household chores, even if you work more than the others. Don’t be surprised if your flatmates resent you after six months of not cleaning the bathroom.
Wash your sheets once a week, once a fortnight at the bare minimum.
In the winter, close your curtains as soon as the sun goes down. This will help trap the heat inside for a bit longer
Unless you’re actively doing something, overhead lighting sucks. Get some good lamps and soak up that ambiance. While you’re at it, switch to LEDs for all your lighting. If you’re on a budget replace one a week until you’ve done your whole home

Tips for new adults
If you have the ability to, pay your bills on time. You never know when you’ll need a loan in an emergency and if you destroy your credit rating it’s going to be rough.
While you’re at it, get a low interest low fees credit card so you actually can start building a credit history. Stick it in the freezer in a block of ice, or even cut it up straight away if you need to take away the temptation to use it. If you know you can pay the balance every month then go ahead and put stuff on it for the cashback or points, just be disciplined about the due date for the interest free period.
Never leave your washing in the machine, that stank takes like three hot washes to get out
Don’t smoke weed inside, the smell seeps in to everything
One of the most important things in life is your physical and mental health. If you need to stop talking to someone to protect the latter then it’s okay.
You have no obligation to your family if they suck
Learn to cook at least five basic healthy meals like chilli, bolognese, roast dinners, salads, burgers . Bulk them out with veggies and beans/lentils if you’re a meat eater but can’t afford a lot of it
Remember that it’s okay to admit you were wrong, or to grow and change your opinions
You’ll always be younger than someone, and there’s bound to be people who will patronise you because of it. You don’t suddenly get respect from boomers the moment you turn thirty. It sucks but don’t let it get to you. Those people are dicks.
Don’t close any accounts prior to applying for any credit, this can temporarily cause a drop in your credit rating as part of what contributes to it is age of accounts
You’ll feel like you’re constantly cleaning your kitchen and bathroom. It’s okay if there’s a bit of mess but as long as nothings growing in it you’re good.
Don’t bother with feather dusters. They just redistribute the dust. Use a damp cloth instead.
Stuff that says dryclean only can usually be handwashed or put on a gentle cycle, just don’t put it in the dryer
If you’re itchy all the time, it’s probably your washing powder/detergent. Switch to an eco friendly brand (actually, just use an eco friendly brand anyway). Also, skip the fabric softener
Invest in the best quality bedding you can afford. Sleep is a huge contributor to your health
It’s okay to take a mental health day, and don’t feel bad if you do nothing all weekend. You need a rest sometimes
For the love of all that’s holy, learn to use your indicator correctly when you’re driving
It’s okay to fail at things, don’t beat yourself up about it

The amount of times I could have been that white girl in the horror movie could honestly be a movie in itself and it’s honestly a waste that my entire life isn’t constantly recorded on film because it would be HILARIOUS

Help Needed
Hi all! Sorry to do this again. My friend asked if I can reactivate the original donation post. But due to it’s length, I decided to post a new one instead.
(Original post: https://risentigre.tumblr.com/post/177853223482/help-our-legally-blind-friend-get-her-brain-mri)
They need $215.
Her father was hospitalized due to hypertension and he’s been in since Sunday (about a week now). They found that his arteries are blocked and causing him to have difficulty breathing. He’s a farmer and apparently had been feeling poorly for a while but stubbornly refused to see a doctor. The daily injection alone to help with the clog costs around $32. He can pay for his hospital bills and meds but the family’s other needs like electricity and utility bills as well as food are things they’re struggling to pay for this month since my friend herself is still recovering from her own medical issues and is on disability benefits.
Once again, we humbly ask for your help. Any amount no matter how small is greatly appreciated. A reblog also goes a long way.
Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity.

What I want in the ACOTAR teaser trailer:
*quick shots of feyre drawing her bow
Close up of her eyes with the arrow drawn.
Close up of the wolf’s oddly humane eyes.
Screen goes blac as you hear the deafening sound of an arrow being released.
*voice over*
“You owe me a debt.”
Feyre and her family in their cottage looking at something behind the camera.
Another close up of Tamlins beast form and maybe a shadow looming over them.
Screen goes black again.
“What kind of debt?” Fear coats her every word.
Shots throughout the movie that leave you on the edge of your seat.
Violet eyes looking up.
Naga bounding for her.
Shots of a shirtless Tamlin with his mask.
And maybe Lucien.
Red lips curving into a wicked grin as a haunting laugh echoes through the chamber.
And a split second shot of feyre suspended in the air by amarantha, screaming.
“A life debt.” Said with such conviction as Tamlins face turns to look at Feyre behind the camera.
And of course with edge of your seat music accentuating the urgentnessand mystery and danger of the Fey world.

“We all get high on the feeling of being slightly more important than we actually are. We crave for it, even got addicted to it. If we’re not careful, like any drugs, we might chase that high for the rest of our lives and have aching withdrawals of never feeling enough.”

PETA
you guys remember when PETA stole people pets off their porches and euthanized them?
you guys remember how it came out that PETA kills about 90% of the animals it takes in, including healthy and adoptable puppies and kittens, stating “ We could become a no-kill shelter immediately. It means we wouldn’t do as much work”?
you guys remember when PETA advocated killing all pit bulls for the crime of being pit bulls?
you guys remember when PETA handed out these comics to children when there were no adults looking?
you guys remember when they made a porn site and then filled it with videos of animal abuse, and (also in that link) claimed cats should be vegetarian?
you guys remember when PETA lied about sheep shearing, got caught, and defended the lie as true even after they admitted the sheep in their picture wasn’t even real?
you guys remember when they tried to excuse their horrifying ways by claiming that the person who exposed them was manipulating the facts by taking them and putting them in the wrong context?
Because I remember. I remember everything.
And I’m gonna make sure everyone else remembers too.
