Supergirl TV Series
Melissa Benoist's Supergirl created a renaissance for solo female superhero properties. It cannot be overstated how game changing it all was and STILL IS. The Supergirl TV series kicked down doors.

The first season premiered 10 years ago. This was before the Wonder Woman film, before Captain Marvel had a film, before Black Window got a solo film. It was the first female led superhero show since the Wonder Woman series in the 1970s.

What is amazing is that it almost never happened. The producers wanted the right actress and did not want to go forward, if they couldn't find her. Melissa Benoist was cast mere days before they shot the pilot episode for Supergirl.

It ended up being a perfect storm of the right time, the right superhero, and, most important of all, the absolutely right actress. Melissa captured all the complexities of Kara Zor El while also making her a beacon, this bright, brilliant spot in the landscape of TV.

In the first episode, Melissa Benoist makes you believe in Supergirl. You believe in superheroes. This moment, this scene, someone who was already a hero finally let herself truly embrace it. My heart.
OUR PARAGON OF HOPE. BEST SUPERHERO
The show was not perfect and in many ways it wasted storylines and the immense talents of its lead actress. But despite all of those things - Supergirl resonated with viewers.

Women (and girls) had superheroes here or there, over the years, but Supergirl changed everything. Girls (and women) had a bold, bright superhero all their own! To look up to, to root for - heck, to have a new Halloween costume to wear. That may seem so small, but its huge.

Kara Zor El is the best superhero. She is rich and complex. She has deep rage, pain, and trauma. Eventually she learns to cope. She never loses her joy or kindness. She struggles as all of us do, but never never loses her core strength of hope, compassion, and love.
Kara lost her entire world. Not just parents or friends, but her entire world and culture, the place she lived most of her childhood. She became an alien refugee. She kept going, step by step. She is a pillar of strength, overcoming trauma, kindness, and joy.

I digressed a bit, but I wanted to explain a bit about Kara Zor El. To have a female led superhero show on the air for 6 years, changed everything. Supergirl is a character DC did not really do anything with and then this series came along...
Melissa Benoist's nuanced, gutsy, and powerful performance resonated with everyone. We got more Supergirl solo comics including the now respected Woman of Tomorrow run. We have had 2 new on screen Supergirl's and this TV show has only been off the air for 4 years.

So thank you to Melissa Benoist for embodying #Supergirl on and off screen. Forever my Supergirl.

No idea, if anyone read this far, but I wanted to get some Supergirl thoughts out. The show may seem small, but it caused important change. If you haven't seen this show, give it a watch. Supergirl is a special character and has a lot to offer.

I want to end this thread on a hopeful note. So please see our Paragon of Hope's truest and most heartfelt speech.

I think we all have the desire to be stepped on by Lena Luthor, right?
This fanart was inspired by an image of a fabulous pair of heels reposted by a mutual, captioned 'Lena Luthor.' (Not sure if they have Tumblr, but if you can see this—you're a genius, by the way.)

Okay now while that was pure 🏴☠️ (though still a lot of hard work) this stuff is TRUE archival work and is entirely fair use, it represents weeks of deep dives into the wayback machine, old forums, YouTube playlists with dead links, etc.
Please contact me if you have anything to contribute, I am especially interested in radio interviews, appearances and magazine scans and buy me a coffee if you value my work

Merlin's Keep (and the Far, Far, Away Site) is gone and it's actually a big deal.
I don't know much about this situation, so if anyone can shed more light on this I would appreciate it, but I do want to take a moment to point this out for anyone else who may not know, because it feels important.
farfarawaysite.com is gone (and their socials on Tumblr and X/Twitter deactivated, too). This might sound dramatic but this is a significant loss for the Merlin fandom.
The site had been running since 1997, and was (in my opinion) a pillar of the Merlin fandom as an archive of every single high quality image of Behind the Scenes, Promotional photos, and individual galleries for all cast members from the core four, to the Knights, to characters like Freya (Laura Donnelly) and Eira (Erin Richards)--the woman who tricks Gwaine in the Diamond of the Day episodes.
I used this site back in 2011 and 2012. I know it existed before then, I know so many fan creators who used this website to this very day.
They didn't just do this Merlin, either, they did it for many, many other shows. This was a non-for-profit, fan run website, who seems to have simply done it for love and archive purposes.
I don't really know if I can even put into words how sad of a loss this is. Decades of work and care is just gone. This website was in many ways a love letter. If I can get one message across to anyone who ran the site, I just would want them to know they were deeply appreciated by so many people in this fandom.
The website is archived through the Wayback Machine here, but this doesn't include a backup of any of the high quality photo files they had stored. You can browse through and see what kind of images they had. I would argue thousands, if not hundred of thousands of pictures, are just gone. I am not quite sure if there is anywhere else that these photos were archived.
This is a sad day for our fandom. I love u farfarawaysite; and again, if anyone knows anything or is in contact with anyone who ran the website, I'd happily talk with them. I would love for the farfarawaysite to rise again.

Card game inside a Mosasaurus: Zara says, “Go Fish.”
One of the napkin ideas I proposed to the kids while we were biking to camp yesterday was to draw the Indominus Rex, the Pteradactyl and the ill fated assistant/babysitter Zara sitting around a camp fire toasting marshmallows inside the Mosasaurus ala Gepetto and Pinocchio in the whale. (Belated Spoiler Alert!)
The kids’ responded, “Oh, that’s what happens at the end of the LEGO Jurassic World game!…Except they are playing cards and using a flare for light.” I decided to follow the LEGO logic and draw the characters playing cards and using the flare also because… firewood would be wet… and where would they have gotten the marshmallows anyway? (We need to keep these napkin images plausible after all)
I always appreciate LEGO games’ humorous lack of fatalities. As I mentioned in a previous Jurassic World themed post, Zara’s death in the movie by Pteradactyl and Mosasaur seemed unnecessarily nasty and it feels nice to provide her with an afterlife. I discovered last night, while trying to find an image of her, that interestingly, she is also the first female death in the history of the Jurassic Park/ World franchise. Gender politics aside, unlike all the other deaths, her demise was particularly memorable in its awfulness and has been an ongoing topic of conversation for my sons long after the movie.
I did not find any images online of the LEGO game card game scene until I sat down to post this today. It appears at the very end of the game.
The kids said I did an ok job anyway.
