watched ginny & georgia season 3 and honestly i think that a lot of people (sometimes because of their own biases) miss the fact that while georgia does love her kids, she herself has said multiple times that love is not enough. and people love to hate on ginny but i think that’s the root of the issue. there is a lot of love, but a total lack of understanding.
and i keep thinking of season 2, when georgia and ginny are having a therapy session together and ginny tells her “you’re such a force. you take up a lot of space. and sometimes i feel like there’s not always room for me.”
ginny is a teenager (i think people tend to forget that she’s going through all these seasons and everything that’s happening while being 15 and 16) who is carrying not only her own teenage messiness but also her very adult mother’s messiness.
and i love both of them, i think they’re great characters and we can empathize with both but it is important to remember that one is an adult, and the other a teen.
mother daughter relationships can be very complex, and in this case it is. there is a lot of love (i keep saying that cause it’s true) but there is also a lack of understanding. georgia is a mother, but she is also her own person. same with ginny. but to ginny georgia is just her mother and to georgia ginny is just her daughter. that tends to be a problem, because as mother daughter it’s them against the world, but as their own people, their worlds are very different.
and that’s where they can’t meet.
