Friedrich will never get in the ocean, it’s disgusting and full of germs, but he will happily sit and read his notes while people watching with Ivan.

Ivan takes a dip in the water to cool off now and then, maybe even swims around for a while, then comes back so Friedrich can reapply sunscreen on him.

Has Ivan ever gotten embarrassed before? Though he seems like a pretty stern guy so I feel like he would keep stuff like that close to his chest…

You said (fairly sure sorry if I misread something) that he’s only cried three times in his life, would we ever be able to hear the stories there?

Does he have a single “favorite” (or just good) childhood memory? I know he had a really difficult past (does he still? I’m pretty sure you changed some characters backstories up a bit), but if he does, what is it?

And finally, very important, can he build a snowman?

Q/A on Ivan

Has Ivan ever gotten embarrassed before?

Ivan is not the type to feel embarrassed about anything anything regarding himself and his person, he is a very confident man. He is however embarrassed to be related to his father, whom he finds pathetic and unmanly. His father was a heavy drinker who often beat both his son and his wife, as well as often being too drunk to work leaving them poor and driving Ivan to seek out a life of crime to help his mother out.

2. When has Ivan cried?

Ivan is a tough guy who deals with uncomfortable emotions by stomping them as far down has he can. Two of the three times he has cried is described in chapter 5 Ghosts of the Past of my one shot ficlet series so go read it if you haven't already!

In short he cried when he was raped at age 16, when he has a panic attack remembering it years later and when he finds his lover Friedrich dead at his desk overdosed on pills. The last one is not a fic yet but i plan on writing it some time in the future (to anyone worried, Fritz respawns but that doesnt make it less traumatic for Ivan).

3. Does he have a single “favorite” (or just good) childhood memory?

Once in his childhood he and his friends had stolen a goose from a farm a town over. He came home and proudly presented it to his parents. His father was too drunk to beat him so he helped his mother prepare it and they had a very good meal that day as well as food for the rest of the week. He got an earful from her for stealing, but also a kiss on the cheek and he could tell he had helped his family out. His father never commented on it but that was as good as approval.

4. Can Ivan build a snowman

Ivan can build the biggest snowman anyone has ever seen, three layers, eyes, nose and arms, the whole 9 yards. Him, John and Nikolai build snowmen outside on Coldfront base when they're bored.

Does Pyro see the world normally? Like without pyrovision? Because he does seem pretty lucid and knows his actions can be dangerous (such as when they were jailed alongside Ivan).

Also, when did BLU engie get a wrench get shoved down his throat?

Yeah he is pretty lucid most of the time. He doesn’t see the world as red Pyro does (pyrovision) and he is aware of his actions. Maybe he hallucinates or hears voices I haven’t decided yet.

The wrench story is one Heavy tells in the game poker night at the inventory. It’s pretty brutal

Misha brings Ivan to poker night with his friends. Ivan is the only one who laughs when Misha tells the story of how he shoved a wrench down the engineers throat. The guys ask “wasn’t that your teammate?” and Ivan shrugs and says “a funny story is a funny story”

Not all the mercs would want a pet but in the spirit of hypotheticals i'll allow it

Scout: Small-mid sized dog (terrier or border collie), something high energy he can run around and play with

Soldier: Goose, the best guard animal there is, nothing gets past it!

Pyro: Parrot, something mischivous, a partner in crime

Demo: White rabbit, given to him by a real magician

Heavy: Large dog (any kind of mastiff), something strong and mean looking

Engineer: Tortoise, something sturdy that doesn't get onto all his machinary

Medic: Pigeons, of course

Sniper: Any and all animals will do, but prefers cats

Spy: Fish, something he can look at and appreciate without having to touch
