overcome | charmayne | monotheatre 2 | re: execution, piney
Unfortunately, people had been arguing bitterly up until the very end. Charmayne definitely had some… sourer opinions about certain people by the end of it all. What a shame that she had only decided to tune in at that point. She kind of wished she could turn her brain off again.
This execution was grim, perhaps grimmer than the last. Charmayne visibly flinched at the grotesque sound of the bear trap maiming poor Madoka. It didn’t take much for her to guess what was going on. Spot whined by her feet, still pressing his head against her leg.
As these newly-found emotions tended to do to her recently, she was overwhelmed with the whole event was over, shaking from head to toe as if caught in the cold. Speaking of which, she found herself not caring whether it was cold or not any more.
That was when she heard the familiar shuffling and squeaking that came from our resident pine tree. Charmayne turned vaguely in their direction, surprised that she was being approached.
“P– Piney-kun.”
She still felt too much to speak. She just reached out and took hold of one of their gloves, nodding in gratitude at what she assumed was a helping hand.
“Let’s get out of here. I can’t stand it.”

shade | charmayne | chapter 2 | re: vote, haruna, veronica
Charmayne had been pretty much zoned out for the entire day, a far-off look in her eyes. Even Spot seemed quite worried about her, nudging her leg with his snout every once in a while and sitting bolt upright by her podium.
She had voted for Madoka, and done so with little remorse, or guilt, even though she was almost forcing herself to feel such things…
She felt a little tinge of sympathy for EBULLIENCE. However, she was still largely out of it.
Hearing the name Hana Naomi was a slap in the face. She was brought back to consciousness. Setting her attention on the discussion that was now taking place, the violinist tensed her fingers, breath hitching.
Their voices… tasted like toxic waste, putrid.
“Enough,” she barked, her voice reaching all around the room.
Her tone had changed drastically from just yesterday. It sounded a little odd, but there was some kind of strained angst in it that seemed out of place there.
“Hana-kun is not a pawn in your petty argument. You both think you’re so smart, but you’re both fools. The murderer here is that bear, and whoever is behind all of this. Hana-kun killed, and died, for the sake of that truth. But besides that…”
“Who the hell are you to have a monopoly on morality? As if you get to decide whose fault it is. That’s not the meaning of ‘grey’.”
“And, Veronica-san… be quiet for once, would you? Having no emotions doesn’t make you smarter than everyone else. … That is something I also learned recently.”

scoop | charmayne | chapter 2 | re: body discovery
And yet another person had died.
And that person was… Sawako Shimoda.
Charmayne had, as it was probably easy to guess, not liked Sawako. She had said some pretty terrible things about Hana.
Did that mean she deserved to die? Of course not. But even then, Charmayne didn’t feel any particular sadness. Maybe she should have felt sad that she wouldn’t have the chance to try and clean up the bad air between them, or that she would not be able to convince Sawako that Hana was a good person any more.
But… she didn’t. She didn’t really feel anything, other than a subtle stir of relief over the fact that she wouldn’t freeze to death in the end.
And she didn’t feel bad over the fact that she wasn’t sad, either. She just legitimately felt… nothing. It was as if her heart had been scooped out.
“Well then.”
Turning her back on the body, she walked away.

Charmayne wasn’t expecting much when Piney held out their hand to her. She plucked the pieces of paper out of their hand (glove?) and wondered what she was meant to do with them.
Then she felt the tiny bumps. They weren’t perfectly formed, not by far, but as she brushed her fingers over them she recognized the patterns in which they were arranged. Braille...?
“Oh...”
The fact that Piney had gone to all of this effort confused her. She was shocked. How was she someone to deserve all of this time and thought...?
Piney was already assuring her that they were not being patronizing before she had even had the chance to formulate the idea. Suddenly she felt very indebted to them, even though neither of them wanted that to be the case.
And then she felt... moved. Or, as moved as she had the capacity to be, with the little emotional skills she had.
“... Thank you, Piney-kun. That would be very helpful, actually. I would love to be able to use the kitchen on my own...”
“You don’t have to go to all that trouble, just something simple is fine. But I haven’t had udon, actually. I would love to try it.”

It was surprising that Piney seemed able to pronounce her surname correctly at this point. Had they been putting effort into it?
Still, she wasn’t sure what they meant by ‘practicing’. She couldn’t hear anything that would give her a clue as to what they were doing.
“Practicing what?”
Keeping her smile polite, Charmayne did her best to not show any of the upset she had shown in the trial, which was relatively easy to do given her experience. That and she wasn’t sure if she was really feeling anything at the moment.
“I’m surviving, thank you for asking. You don’t need to tread on eggshells around me.
“Ah, how did you know I was just about to make food? That would be very helpful. I can’t always cook by myself, you see. Some things are in boxes and it’s unclear what they are.”

If not for the fact that Charmayne was, actually, human and needed sustenance to live, she wouldn’t have attempted to leave her room for a while. Not even for the sake of Spot’s walks (which he surely would have been offended by).
Such was the case that she had to get over herself and go through the dining hall to get to the kitchen. No sooner than 5 seconds into her entrance of said room was she alerted to someone else’s presence by the sound of grumbling.
Charmayne was very tempted to continue on to the kitchen and go ahead and make herself a meal. However, if she wasn’t mistaken, that was Piney’s voice.
She hadn’t been very kind to them in the trial. Perhaps now was the opportunity to make amends. After all, if there was one thing she had learnt in recent times, it was that you never know if you’ll have another opportunity again.
“Piney-san?”
With her hands clasped in front of her and her smile as gentle as ever - though a little off - Charmayne joined her classmate at their table, standing over them.
“What are you doing? You sound like you’re having a bit of trouble.”

♫♫
In the end, what really was safety?
That first blood-soaked moment of the Mutual Killing Game had convinced them it was isolation. To make the one place one could claim as ‘theirs’ as safe a haven as possible, and to stay there until absolutely necessary. Take care of ones own needs, own safety, own heart.
It had become all too apparent how much more difficult the situation was come first trial. Those with vouchers for alibis were excused, and those without them wound up in the crosshairs. Had Hamazoe-san herself not decided to accompany Piney during the investigation, his own circumstantial evidence could have become their death sentence. Whatever the result, one thing had become very clear–people were beginning to cast their loyalties, and being alone was just not an option.
So technically, his practice could have been in the safety of his own room. But without any idea if another motive aside from the trial fallout would even be NEEDED for another incident to occur, any chance to make an alibi would have to be welcomed.
Which was how they found themselves up in the dining hall, hunched over piles upon piles of yellow-green sticky notes he had filched from the home ec room, carefully grinding holes into the paper with a sharpened pencil. Failures littered the table around them filled with everything from apologies that melted into meaningless bump-purgatory to lists of food freshness in the fridge, and pencil shavings filled the inner crease of the ‘How To Braille’ books pages. He’d clean it out in JUST a second–he wanted to get this RIGHT, though he knew a few people who would probably murder them on the spot for the mistreatment alone.
He wanted to be noted there, sure, but he didn’t want to be SEEN like this per say.
“Mmmmmmgh….sometimes, these puffy gloves….mmmrgh.”

remember the gatherings in warrior cats | charmayne | chapter 2 | re: motive
It was weird gathering with everyone else again, since the last time that had happened was, of course, the trial. Charmayne didn’t know what people thought of her after that. She had only spoken to two people in the mean time, but other than that she was clueless.
What was even weirder, though, was the feeling of snow touching her skin when she went to join the gathering. Having grown up in Singapore, on the equator, snow was completely alien to her. She would have screamed at the sensation of it, had she not been feeling a little low in the feeling-things department.
Already Charmayne knew that this was going to be a tough motive to ride out. She was not used to cold at all - she felt as though the flu was already after her - and she didn’t exactly have a lot of warm clothes. She had been planning to buy them after her arrival at Hope’s Peak. On top of that, she doubted that many people would be willing to help her stay warm after what she had done.
Which brought the question to mind, how was this snow falling? If it was a motive, how on earth could someone control the weather?
Of course, that was only one mystery to add onto the pile of already existing ones.
Charmayne took her chance to listen around for what the others were saying, but… it seemed quiet. She wondered if people were staring at her. She wondered if she should care about that or not.
She wore her same smile as always, but wondered if that was appropriate. Still, at this point there was nothing she was more practiced at wearing. Thus, it stayed.
With Spot close at her heels, she ventured into the castle to find something to keep her going, or at least prevent frostbite.
