You like to think you keep him in check.

Not in the obvious ways, no. It’s not your slayer magic or the illusion of control. It's in your words, your teasing, the subtle jabs and smug little smirks that get under his skin just enough to keep the balance in your favor. For most of the time, he lets you have your way - lets you nudge, needle, strut around like you own the place.

But then… there are nights like this.

Nights when he comes home after a job, still humming with power that clings to him like a second skin. The kind of power that slinks into the room before he does, casting shadows that seem to curl around your ankles even before you look up. He says nothing at first. Just peels off the gloves with slow, deliberate care, like he’s shedding his human form along with them. You barely get a word in before he’s crossing the threshold, and your breath stalls in your throat because gods, he’s doing that thing you like.

He never stops changing. The more the dragon roots into him, the more it shows.

The curve of his jaw’s sharper now, and there’s a gleam to his teeth when he speaks that wasn’t there before. His scales- blackened and glassy like obsidian catch the firelight when he steps into it. One traces the line of his throat and another coils along his left bicep. You know better than to touch without permission when they pulse like that.

But tonight he isn’t waiting for you to test him. He’s already decided how this ends.

"You’ve been mouthy lately," Rogue murmurs, voice a low thrum that prickles over your skin. There’s something in the way he looks at you that unravels your smirk before you can even let it fully form. "Anything you want to say to me now?"

You hate the way your knees react before your mouth does.

Still, you hold your ground, arms crossed, gaze flicking over the darkened curve of his chest where his shirt hangs open. "I think I almost prefer you like this."

His tongue flicks over one fang, slow. Deliberate.

"You’re trembling."

"No, I’m not."

"Wanna bet?"

He steps forward and you forget how to breathe. There’s heat coming off of him now, real and steady, like the fire burning within him threatens to spill out. His hands find your hips like they were always meant to rest there, and the pressure makes your thoughts scatter.

When he kisses you, it’s neither soft nor sweet. It’s feral.. Sort of like he’s tasting the defiance in your mouth and claiming it for himself. You can feel the groan in his chest, a warning that melts like lava straight to your core.

Maybe more than normal, if you’re being honest.

There’s something about being handled like this, about the sharpness of his claws brushing the bare skin at your waist, the quiet hum of shadow magic still licking at his aura that cracks through whatever bratty front you thought you had time to throw up.

He pulls back only enough to whisper, breath ghosting your cheek. "Be good, or you get punished."

You nod. You always do when he gets like this.

It’s not as if you’re afraid of him. Nah, it’s that deep ache of knowing you’re about to be ruined in the most diabolical, mind-emptying way possible. That the mouth you mocked hours ago will now be dragging down your neck, whispering demand after demand. That the hands you just had on your hips are more than capable of pinning you wherever he wants and tonight, he wants.

Maybe you do talk too much. Maybe you are a brat.

But when Rogue Cheney decides he needs you, really needs you, all that attitude burns away under the weight of his body and the sheer want in his eyes.

You think to yourself between gasps and kisses that for once, you’ll behave for him.

Just for tonight. Maybe.
