Kane: YA

I’m turning Adult tomorrow and things are really going well. Tomorrow they are going to announce the next batch of astronauts who will be on the Mars mission and my chances are really high. This is what I’ve dreamed of my whole life and I cannot believe it is happening so soon. I always thought if I was ever to achieve my dream of going into space, it would be in my fifties. 

I am also so happy for Naoise. They make the cutest and most snobbish couple ever yet so likeable. I’m glad that Naoise has been so optimistic about finding love despite growing up in a house filled with incomplete marriages - me not knowing who my father is and Naoise losing his mother when he was so young. I think Uncle Ryker has done a good job influencing us to be strong and stay positive. 

Uncle Chance, on the other hand, seems more and more withdrawn these days. If he’s not locking himself in the lab, I find him is dazing off into the sky. Growing up, he always felt so far away and absent although we see each other every day. 

When Kaci and Nana were alive, they told me he wasn’t like this. In fact, Uncle Ryker was the loner in the family. How strange.

Kane: Teen

Started my own fitness club along with my uncle Ryker today and man was it pumping!

I wish Naoise was more enthusiastic about it instead of smooching all over Sasha something II. I mean, who still has a number in their name these days, not to mention she is like almost 10 years older than him. Uncle Ryker is so pissed at him. Naoise is also actually failing at it too. I feel like she has other intentions coming to our house. I can’t pinpoint what it is but she’s on the third date with Naoise yet she hasn’t let him make any move at all. It’s like she is leading him on. 

Went to Geekcon last week and totally stoked! I think I want to be a rocketman one day. Uncle Chance said that he is going to hook me up with a technician job at the space centre once I graduate.

Ryker: YA

For weeks, I could feel something was bothering Kaci and now she finally told us. She was pregnant and she wouldn’t say who the father was, though she's definitely keeping the baby. 

We’ve decided that between my doctor and Chance’s scientist career, we both have the income to support Kaci’s decision, just not the time. Kaci would be able to stay at home to take care of the child.

I wasn’t aware that Kaci was seeing anyone, to be honest. It all came as a shock.  

As with myself, I think I may have met the perfect girl. It was perhaps somewhat unprofessional of me to think so given the circumstances we have met. Yet I have never felt such a connection with anyone before. 

She came in injured from a car accident and I was on ER. Even in the disastrous state, she looked beautiful. I did not think of much then. During the days of her recovery, I came to know her and she was the smartest and funniest person I’ve ever met. She’s an engineer at an architectural firm. 

I am going to finally ask her out on a date tomorrow.

Gem: Friday YA 6

Got up late this morning but still needed desperately for a shower. Went to the gym but when I got there it was already time for work. NOT HAPPY. Was grumpy the whole day until I got promoted! Did not know that I could advance in this career. 

When I got home I immediately used the promotion money to buy myself a shower. The RAW walk-in shower with discomfort and stress relief, baby! Texted Pari to share my good news. 

It’s too late to head to the library now. Hopefully, I can get some research done this weekend.

Gem: Thursday YA 5

After work, I headed to the gym immediately for a shower. I also thought about getting some workout done, after all, I am at the gym right? I tried boxing for two seconds and gave up. I have come to the conclusion that the gym is only two things for me: shower and TV.

Dina calls and invites me to another party. I’m surprised that she remembered me. She’s so wild, and I’m a total opposite. But I decline and head to the store before it closes to buy a compost toilet so I can actually do my own business in my own home.

Gem: Wednesday YA 4

Last night I was invited to a party at the Haunted Mansion by Pari. She introduced me to several other people there like the Calientes and BFFs. 

The townies sure know how to party and I did the unthinkable as well. Partly because I was slightly drunk but mainly I was so mesmerized by the mansion that sneaked in behind to rails. 

I mean, this odd to be a scene in some horror movie but I did not feel any fear, just curiosity. What happened next feels somewhat creepy to admit, but I saw the glorious bathtub and decided to take a bath in it. Somehow I feel very at home. A moaning did startle me on my way back down the stairs though. It turned out to be Dina with a man at the party.

Gem: Sunday, YA 2

Checked out town today mainly to scavenge for food and assess options for bathrooms, shower and internet. 

Here’s what I’ve got so far: Free chips at the bar, hot shower at the gym, clean bathrooms pretty much everywhere and internet access at the library. 

Speaking of the library, it has a really good collection of books to be honest and the librarian Pari Patel is literally the prettiest librarian I have met. She looks like one of the actresses out of a Bollywood movie but who is really into books. 

Whilst at the library, I also found myself a temp job on WCCareers.com starting tomorrow. It’s a customer service job at a gaming company and surprisingly the best paying one I can find. They will provide training tomorrow but I played the game a little beforehand.

Gem: Saturday, YA 1

Willow’s Creek is pretty much just like what the postcard promised. This is possibly the best place to end my journey compared to all the other towns I’ve been so far. 

You will not believe where I’ve parked my van. There is a tiny stream behind the backwoods that is almost too poetic for me to describe. I feel confident about my decision.

Then again, the word “confident” is inaccurate if I’m being honest, because I also feel my stomach flipping around at the same time. A quiet town such as this is a perfect place for me to start writing, away from distractions, but deep down it’s still disconcerting, moving to a whole new place on a whim and all. 

Ok, putting all my monotonous thoughts aside, I have to say, this is truly suburbia. It wasn’t even an hour that I’ve parked my van that the townies start coming up and chatting with me. This old guy even brought some fruitcakes. I mean did they really welcomed all visitors like this? How do they know if I’m not just passing through? They all seemed really friendly, I hope they won’t have a problem with me “squatting” here for awhile. After all, there aren’t any trailer parks here and all the houses around seemed kind of fancy.

preface

I’ve been playing the Sims since it came out but just discovered the whole legacy/story challenge and SimLit community. For me, this opened a whole new aspect of how I can play the game.

I’ve gone through so many threads overflowing with creativity here and they’ve managed to in turn plant ideas in my head and made me feel the urge to share my stories.

What I want to accomplish is to write an account of the life of my grandfather using the Sims. He has passed away a few years ago and I feel that my family has already forgotten about him apart from me, so it is particularly important for me to share this story. Yet I’m not confident that I can tell it well at the moment.

So I’m going to start honing my writing skills and the Sims gameplay experience via doing an original legacy challenge and documenting it. This would be a Sim-Driven story where I mostly observe and piece together stories based on the actions.

On the side, I will am also trying to learn to create CCs so I can create my grandfather’s image in the Sims and the process of learning will be logged here.

Succession Laws

Gender: Equality

Both girls and boys have an equal chance.

Bloodline: Strict Traditional

To be eligible to be named the heir, a child must be naturally born from their previous-generation parents and be able to trace an unbroken bloodline back to the founder. Adopted children may never be named the heir.

Heir: Living Will

The eligible child with the highest friendly relationship score with their previous generation’s parent will be named the heir.

Species: Brood

Heirs must be carried in a pregnancy by the previous heir, regardless of the heir’s gender.

Control

Although in the gameplay rules, doesn’t state this, to make the game simpler for myself, I restrict myself to controlling only one adult at a time (although I’d probably have to interfere with some children to make sure they do their homework).

EPs, GPs, SPs, CCs, Mods & etc.

As much as I like the Alpha CCs, I’m going to use MMs as much as possible for this challenge.

Currently, Mods that I’m running are WickedWhims and MCCC to make interactions more interesting.

I only own the four expansion packs and no others.

I will try to keep each gameplay to 1 Sims week for the sake of not rushing through things.

Gem Booker

My founder sim.

She was how she was when I opened CAS. I made no changes to her aesthetics, partially because she looked a little like the protagonist in The Shape of Water and that I didn’t want to create a picture-perfect sim like I have a tendency for when I tinker with CAS.

Her first name and surname were both randomized.  

Gem’s aspirations and traits were inspired by her surname, Booker. I guess being uncreative as I was, the first that came to mind was The Man Booker prize, but hey, I’ve never played a tidy, art-loving bookworm before, so points for trying something new?

Willow Creek

I chose this neighbourhood as it seems to easiest one to find the 50x50 lot that Pinstar specified in order for my single sim household to have only §1800 to start with. 

Now with all the preparations done, I can’t wait to start.
