[Image description: Henric, an androgynous white person, sits in a brick alcove in medieval dress, posing camply with their hand under their chin and looking off-camera.]
Hey folks!
(Sorry for the crappy image resolution, it was dark and my friend's phone camera was doing its best)
Finding Instagram deeply soul-destroying lately so thought I'd come back to the cockroach social media that refuses to die.
I'm Henric (they/them), I turn 30 this year (which is terrifying), and I'm a SCAdian/ reenactor based in the UK. I love all things medieval and early modern Europe, and make a lot of fifteenth century Burgundian clothing and related accoutrements.
I go by Noble Henric van den Casteele in the Society for Creative Anachronism, but you can call me Henric.

#sca#mysca#medieval reenactment#i used my sca name (sorcha) instead of my mundane name for my order and the guy taking my payment was like. ‘how do you get a name like that#and i was like ‘you join a hobbyist reenactment group and pick it yourself’#and that’s how i recruited someone in the whataburger drive thru at 1:45 am#sorcha.txt

just found out in medieval france, having a lion on your coat of arms was so prevalent that there was literally a colloquial proverb to clown on knights for being basic and not having a real coat of arms. the hate game was so strong back then. imagine medieval hate anons

Let go of the idea that diy will inherently look shit. All your clothes are handmade you just don't see the people doing it.

Gerb in the Sner!
We don't get snow often south of Houston. Even rarer is getting significant snow. We've got it and I'm obligated by my Ansteorran citizenship to take pictures outside in garb.

i think every medieval timesey ren fair type attraction should have a booth of pedantry where if you wanna know if something happening is Authentic or you wanna ask questions about real medieval times or whatever you can stop by and there's just a historian sitting on a throne of books eager to show you all their research

Hello! I’ve been interested in joining the SCA, but my partner and I both still need to wear masks when in large groups for medical reasons. Are medical masks permitted at SCA events even though they aren’t historically accurate? Are there any historical garments people typically wear to cover their mask?
Yes, masks are permitted and encouraged for those who might be ill or at risk! I have seen people decorate their masks with their colors or device, sometimes women will veil over them, but disguising it is not necessary, especially if it interferes with the primary function.
Remember, part of our name is creative anachronism!

Feminist fantasy is funny sometimes in how much it wants to shit on femininity for no goddamned reason. Like the whole “skirts are tools of the patriarchy made to cripple women into immobility, breeches are much better” thing.
(Let’s get it straight: Most societies over history have defaulted to skirts for everyone because you don’t have to take anything off to relieve yourself, you just have to squat down or lift your skirts and go. The main advantage of bifurcated garments is they make it easier to ride horses. But Western men wear pants so women wearing pants has become ~the universal symbol of gender equality~)
The book I’m reading literally just had its medievalesque heroine declare that peasant women wear breeches to work in the field because “You can’t swing a scythe in a skirt!”
Hm yes story checks out

peasant women definitely never did farm labour in skirts

skirts definitely mean you’re weak and fragile and can’t accomplish anything

skirts are definitely bad and will keep you from truly living life

no skirts for anyone, that’s definitely the moral of the story here
#SKIRTS REIGN SUPREME#i love skirts.#not just for gender reasons but because i move infinitely better in a skirt#also it allows for more layers and more warmth during the cold times#but without necessarily feeling the bulk or being restricted by that bulk#reenactment has made me a SKIRT DEFENDER#i fight in skirts i work in skirts i LIVE in skirts#i live the full range of the human experience in skirts and i am not lesser for it than someone who lives their human experience in pants#clothing
