Toontown Blinkies #1

Might as well kick off my very first post on this side blog with the thing I’ve been obsessing over for a good while. Blinkies captivated the creative side of my brain in a way I can’t really describe and I felt pretty compelled to make some for my current fandom captivation Toontown. After a lot of trying and failing to make a bunch of them at once, I’m instead opting to release them in short bursts. Free to use, free to edit, do whatever with these really. Feel free to send any suggestions, complaints, or otherwise in my Ask. Credit is very much appreciated but not required!

My latest comic for The Nib was written by my friend Mike Thompson- it’s his first published comics work! 

The Nib has been a steady source of income and a huge support to me and many other indie cartoonists for years. They publish amazing work, but will be cut loose by their financial backer in July. You can read the official post about it from editor Matt Bors here.  They are still running their kickstarter-funded print magazine, but have to put digital publishing on hiatus until they figure out their next steps. If you’ve been thinking about supporting their membership program, now would be a good time. They have levels from $2 to $40 per month. I really don’t want this to be my last Nib piece!

Much of the anti-Palestinian bigotry on this site is reflective of something stranger: the infantilisation of politics. Defences of Zionism are increasingly expressed through the language of hurt feelings, sentimental appeals, and subjective fears - to a point where even incitement to genocide is dressed up in cuteified terms. But it makes no difference. To be 'upset' at the sight of a keffiyeh, or to say that 'from the river to the sea' is more threatening than the IDF blowing up hospitals, is to admit tacitly that you're a racist who sees a people's struggle for freedom as a personal affront. It's the uwu-ification of hatred, coated with mangled standpoint theory and lib speak from the Obama years.

Hot take: there's a ton of people who are like 'oh I don't get Labubu, they're ugly, etc!' that I think would be charmed by Kasing Lung's original illustrations:

It actually makes me kinda sad to see them reduced to just social media microtrend bag charms. Looking at this art it's like, wow! This is an artist's passion project that spans years!

Heads up, UK friends.

Discord has implemented the age verification requirement system per the upcoming law going into affect later this week early, so prepare yourself for other sites, which may include Tumblr given the intent is to target adult content which may affect here because of how it still does get posted here, even if the intended targets are the actual site for it.

As of writing, the official petition to have the Online Safety Act repealed is close to 30,000 signatures, but it's barely enough to garner much attention to where it may be dismissed by Parliament, or may get discussed but not getting to where it'll be repealed to actually figure a system that doesn't carry the risk of private information getting leaked.

So again, please help spread and sign the official petition here.
