Fake Ass Post
What Do Multiple Posts look like?
More Meta than Ever.
The first time I heard Nicki Minaj’s Itty Bitty Piggy freestyle, I felt like she was gonna be one of the greats. But then Starships came out. There weren't many femcees (ha) that could match that assertion of sugar, spice and bravado. Enter Kari Faux.
The first time I heard her music was on Donald Glover's Gangsta Grillz STN MTN. "No Small Talk" was a part of soundtrack to my ride home after a long day of dressing mannequins and learning how to be a friendly Japanese person. That song helped me maintain while I put the team on my back with the 40% employee discount. Shoutout to Uniqlo <3.

The artwork looks kinda like a crop top you’d see in a 70’s flick on a roller skating baddy... I don't know how else to describe it. There are warm-colored rings above some green-blue palm trees. Fine.
Music
I played this off my iPhone 4S against the back of my sink while I took a shower. So admittedly, not the best setup. LELA opens with some ol’ E.Badu sounding intro but quickly turns into what I’ve come to love Kari’s music for. Funky-ass, trunk-ass, jeep-ass bass. Although this time around it’s more soulful than Laugh Now, Die Later’s icy-cold anthems. Although, now that I’m writing it out, the titles are more indicative of the music than I’d realized.
The sounds on LELA are warm and inviting. Which is little off-putting in contrast to LN,DL. Some of the songs on LELA are very, very lovey-dovey. And I'm not mad at it but again I was blasting this in the shower at like 8AM so yeah… not a good look. Masculinity so fragile or naw?

Faux, Kari. This Right Here. Lost En Los Angeles. 2016.
And to top it off, Kari swags all over this shit the way only she can. “Hold my fuckin phone. This right here my song” gives this banger a cute jingle #fortheladies. It's worded kinda funny but you gon' turn up regardless (see Young Thug). This is an effortlessly cool black girl from Arkansas making these jams and she won’t let you forget it. I love it.

– Me, Above, 2017
Lyrics
In my opinion, Kari stands out among other artists because she has a very direct yet subtle way of injecting cool into her raps. “Don’t”, for example, is an another early favorite. It’s simplistic delivery and message reminds me of a song that holds a special place in my heart.
Impression
LELA is a jarring change of sound compared to Kari's older music. The last we left our hero, she was threatening nerdy, white dudes with a bazooka over dark, slow & low 808 booms. Literally, the last time I personally saw her was in NY. Her and Black Party were dressed in hazmat suits and she smashed a piñata over the crowd to a song named Ken Griffey. So these sexy, synthy sounds were not what I expected at all. It’s different, yet still has that je ne sais quoi that only Kari can bring. And whether or not I fully understand this project, she’s poppin’ and I ain’t stopping not a hoe-ass thing.
