I know I haven’t been around here lately, because my XIII muse has been a bit quite, but the first Doctor Who Episode of the season has DEFINITELY sparked her back up. I know I have threads to get to, and I am ITCHING to get to new ones with lots of beautiful and lovely people BUT —-

— I think I’m going to stay off of tumblr in order to not be spoiled for tonight’s Doctor Who episode. “Are you telling me that risking the timeline isn’t worth every single one of the lives that we could save by doing so?” Something in the lines of her face shifted - hardened, more angular, hesitant and with the tiniest bit of judgement. 

“You’re right, I don’t ever remember a time when the lives of those around you weren’t worth every action you took to save them.” The Doctor raised an eyebrow before glancing back at her sonic, clicking it once and scanning the man in front of her. No it was definitely one of her past faces. Damn. She had almost hoped that it was a Zygon or some other sort of shape shifter.

“Pay attention to me...erm...me. Nothing about this is going to be a waste of time, and we are not going to die in the process, got it? Always a plan, and always hope.” Her sonic lowered to her side, and her face was still hard - eyes boring into his to make sure she had gotten her point across.

The Doctor glanced up from where she had been fiddling with the calibration settings on her sonic, her nose scrunched in confusion. “Of course we’re good men..erm…peop – gallifreyans! Or are we getting down on ourselves again?”

It wasn’t meant to sound as admonishment - if there was anyone she could speak with honestly, it was herself. Even if her past selves tried to outwit her in some way. There were so many things that the Doctor felt guilty for, so many companions she had lost, pushed away, had left. So many lives that could have been saved, if only she had been more clever, quicker, less compassionate. 

“What’s on your mind, Doctor?” 

Okay, yeah, that was a bit bonkers, calling her past self her own name.

“Time Machine, my love.” She booped River on the nose with a grin, and then twirled away from her to the console, pressing a couple of buttons. “I dropped them off at a circus near the Dropitian galaxy and told them I forgot something. Don’t worry - we’ll be back to them within seconds of when I left. They won’t know what happened.” 

The Doctor’s head appeared from behind the Time Rotor, the smile still plastered to her lips as she ran a hand through her blonde hair. “What do you think, by the way? Still cool?”

“I miss being a mum.” It had been bothering River for a while after she returned from The Library. For her she had spent years being a mother to three children, she knew they weren’t hers, just as the children knew, but it didn’t stop her from caring for them… and now she found herself returning to an empty home. She was lonely.

“I don’t know what to do.”

The Doctor nodded, reaching out to wrap an arm around her wife’s waist, pulling her close for a moment. “I understand, River, I really do.” Her life on Gallifrey, with a family, a wife, children, grandchildren - and it had all disappeared in a flash during the Time War. Some would tell her that it was her own decision - that she had chosen to run away in that blue box.

“I think, perhaps, that traveling with me again will do you a lot of good.” She released River’s waist to put both of her hands on her shoulders, leaning forward to press her forehead to hers. “If you focus on the life you have here, then it might help to deal with the feelings.”

I’m still around I promise! I just don’t have a lot of inspiration for writing though. Just know that I am reading all of the posts and enjoying all of the messages from a far.

Hopefully I will be more inspired tomorrow - I need to get back into my River and XIII brains.

But today is relax day, nap day, and make comfy food day. Don’t forget about me ❤️
