The Literary Labrador
Hello from The Literary Labrador and welcome to our very first blog! We’re a creative company that produces colorful, unique, and delightfully quirky notebooks. We work to inspire, motivate, and add a touch of happiness to this world one quote-filled notebook at a time. Our mascot, pictured above, is a beautiful black American Labrador Retriever named Arvis, an Old English name that means “The People’s Friend”. He is a four years old and works as a TBI (traumatic brain injury) and epilepsy service dog. It takes a lot of courage for me to admit that he is my service dog but I feel in order to give everyone a full understanding of how our company came about and the meaning behind our work that this knowledge is essential. I have always loved dogs and admired the canines that have been trained to do a variety of tasks for others from bomb sniffing, search and rescue, guide dogs, autism companions, etc. As a young and healthy individual I never thought that I would ever need one of these special dogs but then my whole world got turned upside down in a matter of seconds. I’m a survivor of a terrible accident where I was struck by a car while riding my bicycle. This incident nearly took my left as I sustained numerous orthopedic and internal injuries. Through extensive rehabilitation I have overcome many of those injuries. However, no matter how hard I tried I was not able to overcome the cognitive effects of the traumatic brain injury I sustained and the resulting post-traumatic epilepsy. I lost a professional career that I loved, friends, my lifestyle, etc. It was through the help of Arvis and the power of journaling with quotes that I have been able to recreate myself and life in a positive way. Through my blog I wish to show how I use the notebooks that I create to add joy to my own life. It’s my hope that I can share my creations with others so that their lives can be positively impacted too. Much more to come…. Kathryn and Arvis

The Literary Labrador Nature Notebook
I’m so excited to announce that I just finished writing the interior of my latest Webster’s Dictionary (1913) notebook. The theme is nature and the quotes are amazing!
As an avid outdoor enthusiast, I connected with many of the nature-themed quotes from over 30 notable people, both past and present. I find nothing more relaxing than walking several miles with Arvis, the mascot of The Literary Labrador, on wooded trails near our home.
My all-time favorite nature quote comes from John Muir and you’ll soon see that his words have a prominent position in the back interior cover of the new Nature notebook. The quote reads: “In every walk in nature one receives far more than he seeks.”
I can’t agree more fully with this quote. So many of my creative ideas come when I’m taking one of my daily walks. Not only do I generate many ideas but any stresses that have built up always seem so much less when I return home. Also, recently Arvis and I have seen, several times now, a black bear with two very young cubs, a doe with her twin fawns, wild turkeys, owls, red-tail hawks, skunks, etc. I have to say that the black bear sightings were by far the most amazing and so cute!
I hope to have these new Nature releases ready for sale on Monday. I plan to have three colors - clover green, spring green, and light bark brown. Once these are complete, I will move on to create several Nature notebooks with illustrated or photograph covers. In my short time here on Etsy I’ve learned that people LOVE variety.
I hope that everyone who reads this is able to get outside and enjoy all that Nature has to offer. Many amazing sights, smells, and sounds are waiting; if one only takes the time to look for and experience them.

The Literary Labrador “Nature” Notebooks with Andy Warhol Quote
Hi everyone!
It’s an exciting day as I just released my new “Nature” notebooks. They are part of my original Webster’s Dictionary 1913 edition series. This was my first line of notebooks and they will always have a special place in my heart.
I decided to offer this series in just three shades. I selected colors that remind me of some of the special things I get to see on my walks in the woods.
The spring green is my favorite color as I love when the leaves first appear after bursting from buds. The color doesn’t last long but this very special green helps to liven up the colors of the woods after a long winter’s nap.
I shared my favorite quote from this notebook line yesterday. It was from John Muir. He has so many wonderful words about the environment that it was hard to pick just one of his quotes - that’s why I selected two of them! However, rest assured that I feature over 30 other people who also have equally wonderful thoughts to share about nature.
What I love about creating my quote-filled notebooks is finding great quotes from people I was not expecting to comment on a particular subject. I have a huge interest in art and I love it when I find interesting quotes from famous artists. Fortunately, I found several for these Nature notebooks.
Andy Warhol is well known as a pop artist that became famous for his very colorful prints of iconic people and items. Aside from being a great artist, it turns out he was a nature lover too. He stated “I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want.” I could not agree more.
Even though the quotes in this line of notebooks come from a varied group of individuals, they all have a common love and appreciation for nature. My hope is that fellow outdoor enthusiasts will find my special notebooks and be able to enjoy the quotes too. Who knows, perhaps someone will write in their new notebook while enjoying the great outdoors.
Bye for now.
