Mech squad 17-R was erroneously reported as all kia. The mistake was caught before the squadron was officially disbanded or its members replaced but not before official notices of death were sent. The pilots were a bit surprised to find that officially they were all dead for a week or so before command reversed the mistake and jokes among squamates eventually lead to the unit’s unofficial designation as The Living Dead.

Command has no problem with the unofficial name being stenciled on mechs and pilot helmets but they do wish the squad would stop throwing funerals for all new members the day they arrive. Its a little off putting.
