Among the mass of broken beat conductors of the BrainFeeder-StonesThrow-LowEndTheory scene out in LA, Samiyam has been one to share a sound that find itself separate from the rest. Broken beat can get repetitive and non-interesting. But while Samiyam undoubtedly partakes in the style, his wacky instrumentals and funky basslines are creatively superior to those who also follow this formula.

A busy track by the pioneers of modern noise music. Full bodied and well balanced. Soak it up.

(Nerftoss) John Jones has a lot of good miscellaneous world music to offer, coming from (you guessed it) all around the world and onto his mixes. There’s an impressive collection on his page of some of the more abstract songs in the genre. You can tell that he is strict about having each mix fit a proper mood, and weaving the tracks together seamlessly. Jones does the two quite brilliantly, and this mix above proves it.
Easily noted in his own music as Nerftoss he draws influence from this broad and abstract genre world music, but the way he hones it so genuinely, makes the songs all the more compelling and agreeable. He definitely stands out past the local artists and deserves much more attention. I will be writing more about him in the days to come.

We’re off terribly to a new start. The Internet is ever more saturated with content new and old and we feel like we’re missing out on all of it. The endless search song-to-song will only perpetuate itself until you hit your head on the wall hard enough to the point where you lie down and stare at your ceiling. And then you go back to an album. You rediscover not only the good songs that you didn’t make special note of at a younger age, but also how they interact with one another as a complete piece. They don’t exist on their own anymore; the URL no longer a unique identifier of track it hosts. The song’s sound, timing, and message is given more meaning by the ones that precede and/or follow it. I’ve found this all to be true since my recent experiences with Deerhunter’s Weird Era Cont. Sometimes you need that, so it’s much appreciated.
