Once upon a time a young girl was enjoying some hot chocolate by the fireplace. It was an unusually cold February, and this year there was snow on the ground for Valentine’s Day. As the girl sat curled up in a warm, soft blanket with her delicious beverage topped with marshmallows, she glanced over at her phone on the table. She was expecting a call from her beloved boyfriend. He was the forgetful type, and had a very hard time keeping track of important dates. It wasn’t uncommon for him to completely forget about birthdays or dinner dates, and she had spent far more time then she would have liked to admit staring at restaurant walls in frustrated, lonely silence. But she let it slide. He was faithful, he always got her beautiful gifts as apologies and for the most part he did own up to his mistakes. Everyone has flaws after all, and a lack of punctuality was his. It was that simple. But tonight, he had promised up and down to the heavens that he would be at her house to spend Valentine’s Day with her. He made it a point that he would be there at 5 o’clock and, “Not a second later.” She looked up from the phone and turned to peer into the kitchen where the clock was. 6:25 The girl heaved a frustrated sigh. Surly he should be calling her any second to let her know about what was going on. She debated calling him but decided against it. Instead she picked up her phone and aimlessly scrolled through Facebook. Watching the shenanigans of her friends always brought a smile to her face, and tonight was no exception. She saw one of her friends, a lively blonde, posting ridiculous pictures of various drunks acting like typical college frat kids on her wall. One was a tall red-head who decided that wearing a red solo cup over his crotch secured with a thin piece of string around his hips and literally nothing else complemented his hair and overall figure. Another young man thought it was a good idea to sit in a laundry basket that was placed on the end of a wooden board. The board in question sat on a keg barrel like a teeter-totter, and his friends appeared more than happy to jump onto the elevated end in an attempt to send the brunette flying. Sadly, there was no picture of what had happened after the boys jumped onto the board. That would have been a sight to see. As she was scrolling through the pictures her friend sent her a text. ‘Hey, where are you?’ the text read. ‘I’m at home, why?’ ‘Aren’t you supposed to be with your boyfriend?’ ‘Yea, he said he’d be here at 5 tonight but he never showed up.. :(‘ ‘Well I think I just found out why..’ Her friend had attached a picture to the last text. It was a picture of her boyfriend sitting on the couch with two girls and a guy, all of whom appeared to have Xbox controllers in their hands. They all seemed to be extremely focused on whatever they were doing. She would have commented on how strange it was to see gamers playing video games at a frat party, but she had other things on her mind. ‘WTF?! WHAT IS HE DOING?!’ she abandoned girl replies. ‘They’re playing Smite. They play this game literally all the time. They say they’re in a professional league or something but personally I think they’re just nerds with no lives.’ ‘Tell him to call me! NOW!’ A few minutes later the phone rings. The girl answers the call. “What the fuck are you doing at a frat party playing video games?! You said you would be spending time with me!” She roars over the phone. “I know but it’s only 4:30. Why are you so upset?” he asks, completely oblivious to the situation. “It’s only 4:30? It’s only 4-fucking-30 when the fuck was the last time you looked at a clock?! It’s-“ she pauses to look at the current time, “- it’s fucking 7:30! You were supposed to be here two and a half hours ago!” There’s silence on the other end for a few moments. “Oh my god I’m so sorry! I completely lost track of time! I’ll head over there right now,” He says. She debates whether or not she should tell him to fuck right off but she decides to let him come over. “Whatever, just get your ass over here! We need to have a conversation that’s best had in person.” With that she hangs up the phone and falls onto the couch, completely unware that she had been standing until now. She is familiar with the fraternity house and knows that it’s about 20 minutes away. She decided to go into her room and watch TV to pass the time. Her attention is pulled away from the television when she hears her phone go off. When she picks up the phone she sees it’s 9:30, and her friend has sent her a text. ‘I think you might want to come over here..’ it says, with an attached photo of her boyfriend still on the couch playing video games. This time there’s three guys sitting with him, and the background suggests that many of the party goers had left for the night. She would have commented on how bizarre it was that a frat party ended at, or before 9:30, and that video games had been a source of entertainment, but she was too angry to care. Her friend sent her a second text. ‘I over heard him talking to other people about how you were being a “psycho bitch” and that you needed to “leave him the fuck alone”…’ ‘I’ll remember that.. And I have a stupid question for you..’ ‘Yea?’ ‘Are you big into the gaming scene? Like big enough to know about all of those tournament things they have?’ ‘No but my brother is. Why?’ ‘Can you give him my number and tell him to send me a schedule of the last two years of events?’ ‘Sure..’ About ten minutes passes by. Still nothing from her boyfriend. She’s pacing the floor of her bedroom in anger. Suddenly her phone lights up. There’s a message from an unknown number. ‘Hey my sister just texted me your number and told me to send you all of the dates of the recent gaming events and tournaments so here’s the complete list.’ She thanks him and reads through all of the dates. She takes her phone over to her calendar where she writes down all of her plans and compares them to the schedule she’s just received. She can’t help but notice that every day she had been stood up, just so happen to be the same day an event was taking place. After realizing that all the excuses about work and family getting in the way were lies, she sends her boyfriend a quick text. ‘Don’t bother showing up tonight or ever again. I’ll spend tonight by myself, just like I do every night there’s a gaming event going on. I just got a full schedule and found out that all that bullshit about being busy at work or with family was nothing but lies. Oh and tell your friends that this psycho bitch will be finally leaving you the fuck alone for good. Have fun with your fucking video games you selfish prick!’ A few minutes later her boyfriend blows up her phone with calls and texts. After about the 7th time her phone goes off, she deletes and blocks his number, and shut the phone off for good for the night. About a week and a half later her now ex-boyfriend messages her on Tumblr, apologizing for that night and telling how much he misses her and wants her back. She decides to pour her own heart out as well and makes this heartfelt post.

About a year goes by and the young girl has found someone who is honest with her and loves her with all his heart. He enjoys sending time with her, and she live happily ever after. The End.
