How to Fold a Fitted Sheet
The fitted sheet. A practical mattress-saving staple that is also almost everyone's worst nightmare. Well, everyone who cares about keeping a moderately tidy and organized household - or everyone who’s being forced to care for a family member.
While it is pretty obvious how a fitted sheet should be used on a mattress, it is not so obvious how to fold it when it is not being used - especially for a kid. Fear not.
If you are one of the relatively visionary parents who is trying to equip your children with practical household skills that will help them live a better life, then you can confidently add folding a fitted sheet to your child’s impressive repertoire. Like riding a bike, your kid will never forget how to do this once they’ve learned, so read on: in a few simple steps, this exercise in utility will be theirs for life. (You’re welcome!)
How to Fold a Fitted Sheet in 6 Steps
Time: 2 minutes Age: Over 10 years old
Difficulty: Medium
Materials: One fitted sheet.
Method:
Step 1: Standing up, hold your fitted sheet by two corners on either one of the shorter edges. Make sure the side of the sheet that faces down toward the mattress is away from you. Place a hand in each of the two corners.
Step 2: Take your right hand to your left hand, folding the corner in your right over the corner in your left so that it is swallowed up.
Step 3: Now bend down and bring up the corner hanging in front. Fold it over those two corners you're holding in your left hand. You'll see the corner showing is inside out.
Step 4: Next, pick up that remaining corner, bringing it up and folding it over the other ones you're holding so it envelops them. The right side should be showing.
Step 5: Place the folded sheet on a sturdy and flat surface. Here, you can straighten it out and fold in the edges to hide the elastic.
Step 6: Finally, fold the sheet into a rectangle. Fold again until it has reached your desired size. Store it in a cool, dry place.
