zoros had a busy few years post canon :) i'm sure nothing bad happened. immorcation au, takes place after this snippet mihawk is also here
-
His vision is still bathed in red, heartbeat jumping at every sound. He swirls at the presence appearing on the edge of his conciousness, Enma leading the charge.
She collides with Yoru's blade. The metallic screech of the swords ringing through his body in tune. Mihawk lifts his head, his yellow eyes cast in shadow underneath his hat.
"Zoro." He says, pushing Enma away without effort when Zoro fails to drop his arm. Her tip draws a groove in the ground as Mihawk sheaths his sword back onto his back. He glances around just by moving his eyes. "I see you have been busy." Is it disgust? Disdain? Disappointment?
Zoro can't tell the difference. His jaw aches, teeth still buried deep in Wado's hilt. Blood fills the well Enma dug.
Mihawk takes a few idle steps, avoiding stepping on the corpses as he does. "I heard about your escape from Impel Down. There are quite a lot of people looking for you." Mihawk informs him as Zoro lifts a shaking hand towards his mouth. Pink saliva clings to the white wrapping as he takes Wado out of from between his teeth. He tries to clean the blade on his sleeve but its still tacky with blood not yet dried. He holds it in his hand.
"Are you listening?" Mihawk chides.
"I heard you." Zoro tells him.
Mihawk sighs. He takes a few more steps, out of Zoro's line of sight. His boots squelsh in the soaked mud of Germa. "You've made them look like fools with your escape. They will stop at nothing to recapture you."
"So?" Zoro says. Where would they put him? Impel Down had been said to be impenetrable. Unescapable. It was anything but. They couldn't kill him. They couldn't hurt him in way that mattered. Most of the people he cared about were already dead. What could they even do to him that the world hadn't already beat them to?
He feels Mihawk's eyes on him even without straining his observation Haki. "If you are here for a rematch, we'll have to make new rules." He tells him and Mihawk sighs.
"That's not why I came. You've earned the title fair and square. I have no interest in it." Mihawk says.
"Then why are you here?" Zoro asks, looking straight ahead. The sun sets on the horizon, painting the sky blood red as he has painted the earth around him. Germa's clones bled like any other.
"To take you to Kuraigana." Mihawk tells him firmly.
The blood dries on his skin, flaking as he moves. He stares into the sun until his eye turns blind. "I can't leave yet."
Mihawk walks, squelch in the mud, soft clinking of his equipment and his jewelery. "I do believe you have been rather thourough here. Have you killed everyone on the island?" He asks idly.
"Not yet." Zoro replies.
"Then what's the hold up?" Mihawk steps into his line of sight, blocking the sun. Zoro's vision recovers quickly.
He licks his lips, tasting blood and takes a shuddering breath. "Seraphims." He brings out and Mihawk lifts his chin.
"Don't tell me they are beyond your skill?" He asks, his eyes marginally narrowing.
Zoro shakes his head, his mouth pulls into a smile that tears his skin. "They got new samples." The rest of the explanation gets stuck in his throat and he looks towards Mihawk and hopes, prays, that he doesn't have to say the words out loud.
It takes a moment for Mihawk's eyes to widen before he turns his head down towards the Germa Kingdom research building. "I presume Dr. Trafalgar and your former Captain?" Zoro closes his eyes which is answer enough. Mihawk clicks his tongue. "Of course they would be so brazen." He says bitterly. "The greed of man knows no bounds." He adds.
Yoru swings from his back and his hand lands on Zoro's shoulder. He flinches, expecting pain to lace through his extremities but all he feels is the warmth of Mihawk's palm through the fabric of his shirt. It's stiff by now. The blood dried.
"I will take care of the rest." Mihawk tells him, slipping off his shoulder. Before he leaves he hands Zoro a cloth handkerchief, nodding towards his swords. Zoro takes it with shaking hands, running Wado's blade along it first to clean her. "Any personal effects I should gather as I go?" Mihawk asks.
Zoro barks out a laugh. Everything he cared about beyond his swords went down with the Sunny. "No." He replies, his voice raw like gravel.
Mihawk inclines his head and begins walking. "We leave by moonrise at the latest." He tells him. "I expect you to come with me."
Zoro's slides Wado back into her sheath, the worst of the impurity gone before he moves onto Kitetsu. "Zoro." Mihawk demands with emphasis.
Zoro breathes. "Nowhere else to go anyway." He tells him. Scratching at a stubborn speck with his nail through the cloth before he deems it clean enough to sheath. "This was my last-" A lump in his throat chokes him.
Ceasar and Judge had known more about the Ope Ope No Mi than anyone else. Studied it for years, decades. They had been on the brink of recreating its ability. And in a fit of rage Zoro had cut them down. Revenge clouding his judgement. Months of experiements for nothing.
When he had found Ceasar here, in Vinsmokes employ, he had known. Known how Sanji had suffered here. Even without the details he had known. He had been witness to Ceasar's cruelty on Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, Zou. Seen the fruits of their labor with Vegapunks influence on Egghead. And he hadn't cared. Had given himself over in the desperate hope that they could fix it. Make him mortal, kill him or at the very least make him forget. All the agony and every humiliating test and trial was easy to endure if the end could be achieved.
Now Zoro will never find out if it was possible at all.
Had Sanji's sister led him past their growing tanks on purpose? Had it been cruelty to show him the false shadows, manufactured for the government? He hadn't even bothered to find out. Even knowing what the Seraphims were, even with their wings and the difference in hair- and skin color. Even without the scars and other markings he knew so intimately. Seeing children with Law's and Luffy's faces floating in the liquid of the tanks-
He can't even remember exactly what he did next. But the carnage around him paints a picture on its own. Would Sanji have been furious with him for murdering his family? Was there any forgiveness to be had? Perhaps this was his punishment.
He is back where he started. Might as well let the Marine's lock him back up. What difference did it make where he chose to rot?
The sun disappears behind the horizon with one last gasp of blinding light before its snuffed out like a dying candle.
Mihawk sighs behind him. "Do not lose hope just yet." He tells him and Zoro wants to take the word and spit it out. He can't lose something he doesn't have. "There are some paths yet to still explore."
Enma slides back into her sheath last. Sated and quiet by the bloodshed now when even her hunger couldn't end him. Or perhaps she deemed him unworthy of that gift as well.
"I once told you to live. I hold you to that promise." Mihawk continues.
Zoro huffs. The stained handkerchief held loosely in his fingers, red and brown on white. The similacrum of a flag.
"Don't exactly have a choice in the matter." Zoro tells him bitterly.
Mihawk's steps pick up, receeding. "Living means more than survival, little frog." He tells him and leaves Zoro staring at the purple sky.

part 06!! and the end of Act 1
01 02 03 04 05 06
OK SO THAT'S THAT
I don't have anything else storyboarded right now, I have the dialogues for Act 3 written down, but for the 2nd Act I'm gonna have to rewatch parts of WCI. I'm also thinking of a different approach, more like a series of illustrations not a comic, but idk yet, I'll have to rewatch and see!
It's not like I'm actually using a 3 Act structure as in 'a method of writing a story', I don't know how to and I haven't tried learning that (YET). I just think its neat and reflects how I divided my artistic process. I've always seen this story in my head as 3 parts.
And before I delve into part 06, I can't stop myself from saying that....... part 05 really needed another closeup on Sanji's face. If I ever try and repost it to another site then maybe I'll add it (between the panels of Ichiji & Zoro and the closeup on the spear, it would help the rythym but also strengthen the emotional connection, before Sanji shuts himself off)
Anyhow part 06
Most panels were a breeze, but the last two, my god, I just couldn't get them right for the longest time. In the end my favourite panels are the closeups of Luffy and Nami, I should really draw them more.
Here's how this panel in particular went:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did like how the pose was looking in my first rough pass, the face is scrunched, the shoulders are high with tension, the direction is consistent
Couldn't execute it though... I think in the first rough sketch the camera is looking at Luffy slightly from above? Like he's leaning into it. That's why the shoulders can be so high up, but I didn't realize what it was when trying to clean it. So when cleaning the sketch I drew the head on the same level as the camera which made the whole pose look flat, also in this weird angle, like it's not fully 3/4, but it's not facing forwards either.
I didn't know what wasn't working, so I doubled down and tried with the lineart, but it didn't magically help. It just looks like he's slouching.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. so I tried to rethink the pose and commit to a 3/4 view. I like that more of the neck is visible now, you can feel that he's leaning forward with the scream, but I think I could have pushed it a bit more still
5. with linework I made some small changes, like a bit shorter hair, smaller nose and the eyes pushed back a bit. I also added the scratches and filled in the black parts
6. added flat colors & shading!
Last panel with Sanji was even harder to draw hehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so I thought this would be easy bcs I wanted to basically redraw the panel from the anime
that's why my rough sketch was extremely rough, I didn't think about it much
and then I had so much trouble with it lmao You'd think that it would be easier when you're covering the character's face, but I was in this undecided space of on one hand wanting to show the pain on Sanji's face and staying truthful to the anime scene on the other. I also found it super diffucult to show the emotions without the eyes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. The pose in 3. also wasn't working so I tried to make him more slouched, like he's curling in on himself more, it was definitely a better direction. I tried going into lineart from here but I didn't like how the fingers were turning out
5. So I decided to get a new ref and took a picture of how I'd make this gesture myself. With this pose I also changed the position and angle of the face slightly, bcs it would have created a very small space between the hand and the nose and I wanted the two shapes to connect
6. I really liked the hand, but was having trouble with the hair, it felt too short, still couldn't get the face right either
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. so I elongated the hair and worked on the face some more and was finally happy with what I had!
8. added colors! At first I had it colored like the other panels, color just on Sanji then gradient on the bottom helping it fade to black, but it wasn't sitting well with me. Maybe because the space above his head was too big and I didn't want to have a background here and also wasn't adding the little floating pieces to the carriage scene (these were reserved for the grass battlefield)
9. SO! I made Sanji's figure darker and also added a darker shade to the whole scene and I think it ended up working really nice. Like he's drowning in the darkness, the only element piercing through it are Luffy's words. It also just fills up the space better lmao, feels less empty visually
Its gonna be A WHILE, before I have updates for this, I'm gonna have to start with the rewatch anyway. Right now I'm gonna have to focus on finishing my extra pieces for the @rdtriozine !! If any of you read this far you may as well check it out lmao I have a full illustration spread there and gonna have spots for a fic too ❤️ I just need to draw them!!! AGHHHH

train au snippet number 2! this time it's namis pov. it takes place after chapter 3 and i think that wraps up train au for now! that's all she wrote™ thanks so much everyone for your love and excitement for this story it was a joy to write and share. if you have questions about the universe that i didnt get into in the main story feel free to shoot me an ask bc i probably thought about it. here is the other snippet and heres the full fic!
-
Nami turns on the bed. Despite sharing it, she and Zoro are miles apart on the king sized mattress. It doesn't even creak in the slightest, only the fabric rustles softly. She loves staying over at Kaya's. Everything is lush and extravagant, like staying at a hotel for free and without strangers. A vacation from real life which is what they sorely needed after tonight. Her dress is draped over one of the chairs next to the bed. In the dim light of the night the wine stain at the hem looks black. She'll have to remember to take it to a different dry cleaners than the one she stole it from.
She looks over, pulling her hair out from under her head. With the moonlight falling in from the window she can see Zoro's profile in the dark. His eyes are closed, chest falling and rising slowly.
"You okay?" Nami asks, loud enough to wake Zoro up should he already be asleep. He shuffles around with his eyes closed.
"Yeah. Didn't even hit me." He replies, nonchalant. Wide awake.
She scowls at him. "That's not what I meant and you know it."
Zoro sighs and moves his arms until he can cross them behind his head. He opens his eyes and glares at the ceiling. He shrugs half heartedly with one shoulder. "Was only a matter of time, so."
Nami sits up in bed so she can put her hands on her hips. "What's that supposed to mean?" She demands.
Zoro narrows his eye at her. “We both know what.”
“You’re a catch.” She tells him and gives her a look.
“Right." He huffs, angrily adjusting the duvet around him. "I’ve been sleeping on my friends’ couches for months when I’m not sleeping on a train.”
"So what?" She says petulantly.
"Not to mention 'a hopeless wreck and pathetic child'." He tells her pointedly and Nami scoffs, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I said that when I was mad at you, you can't hold that against me." She says and Zoro shakes his head, closing his eyes to deem the conversation over with. Nami pouts. "Even if-," She says and Zoro opens one eye, the vein on his forehead announcing his irritation. "He's a much bigger loser than you. You're perfect for each other."
Zoro groans. "You hate him, what do you care?" One of his hands pinches the bridge of his nose.
"I don't hate him. He doesn't deserve you. There's a difference."
Zoro sits up, throwing the blanket off of him and his hands into the air. "Yes, of course. The accomplished doctor with his own apartment, obviously the teenage dropout criminal is much too good for him." Zoro's voice says, dripping in sarcasm so she stabs him in the ribs with her nails.
He lets her, rubbing his side afterwards. "This guy paid me 50 bucks to know if you're still alive. He's a mess." She tells him.
Zoro gets off the bed in a huff. "Doesn't matter who's more pathetic. It's not up to me."
"So you're not even gonna fight?" She says and he glares at her.
Something builds up in him, a tidal wave sweeping in, but it crashes against the shore before he can let it lose. She sees it in the rise and fall of his shoulders. His breath leaves him in a short and violent burst. He shakes his head, shrugging.
"What's there to fight for?" He asks, letting himself fall on the couch underneath the giant window. The sheer curtains are open, bathing the entire room in the light of the full moon. He pulls his legs up and pops his elbow on the back of the couch, gaze through the glass. "As you said, he got something out of it. I had a good time. Whatever."
Nami sighs deeply. "Zoro-"
"Wouldn't have lasted anyway." He tells her sharply. "Nothing ever does." He mutters into his hand and exhales heavily. The brief stint in the holding cell making him all melodramatic. Nami purses her lips. Zoro had been looking forward to tonight, even if he hadn’t said it in so many words.
The blanket rustles as Nami gets up and her feet pad softly over the carpeted floors. "Come on now." She says, softly chiding. He folds his legs to make room for her on the couch as she joins him, grabbing a pillow to put on her lap in lieu of a blanket.
Zoro glances over. "Let's be honest. He can do better." He says with misplaced humor, avoiding Nami's indignant gaze.
She exhales loudly. "Okay, you want to feel sorry for yourself tonight. Fine. I'll let it slide." She tells him before reaching out to grab his chin with her sharp fingers and turn it to face her. "But he would be so lucky to have you. And if he doesn't see that he's an idiot. Don't argue with me, we both know I'm always right."
Zoro sighs softly, resignation on his face. He knows she won't take any rebuttal so he stays silent, cheeks squished in her hold. She releases him. Shuffling closer until he has to put his legs over her lap.
She lets her hands fall on his knees. "I know things suck right now."
"Not more than usual." Zoro says, looking out into the dark. Their view stretches out across the gardens. Out here where Kaya's mansion sits, there are even a few stars visible at night. "Been way worse." He adds.
Nami sighs again and sinks further down until the upholstery. "True." She admits.
"I miss Luffy." Zoro mutters into the night. A rare admission. The ache and weight of the night has crushed him underfoot and revealed his mushy center. Nami puts her chin on his propped up knee and wraps her arms around his legs.
"Me too." She says miserably. Only a little while longer now. She should check when Luffy’s flight is scheduled for again. "He's gonna be so mad at you that you didn't tell him." She says with a small smirk.
Zoro huffs. "He would have come back early if he knew." And Zoro has been doing just about everything to avoid that. Luffy had been excited about this trip for months. One of the reasons Zoro hadn't wanted to tell Chopper about his situation was because Chopper wouldn't have been able to keep a secret. They both knew Luffy would have dropped everything, helped him, maybe even fought for him against that stupid parent and the police. Zoro would only have to ask but he never would have done that. It had taken weeks for him to even consider crashing at Nami's place. She probably wouldn't even know about it if Franky hadn't told Robin who had told her. And Franky only knew because he had nagged Zoro on the train for days until he spilled the beans.
It was infuriating, the way he insisted he didn't need help. He was going to figure his own shit out. He always did.
If she weren't wired exactly the same, she would have throttled him already.
Nami hums. "Heard back from Kidd yet?" She asks.
"No. Next week they said." Zoro mutters. She clicks her tongue grumbling under her breath. How long did Kidd need to decide to hire someone when he was desperate for any help in the bar? Bastard.
Zoro sighs, looking up at the moon above. "Let's go to sleep."
Nami blows out a breath. "Yeah." She says and neither of them move. Outside the moon makes its way across the sky.

I thought about Zoro, again. And how he stays calm when all other mugivaras are in disarray. How he has to be the last pilar standing, because if not him than noone. And how some people deam him emotionless and uncaring because of that, because he keeps his cool and talk logic in hard situations. (Like whan they had to leave Vivi behind, or all this mess in inies loby). And I thought how I want someone to see it, and hug him and let him be vulnerable for a bit.
I dunno if I mean it like a prompt, or just want to cry with someone over Zoro. Maybe both. Anyway I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter in any format :')
god yes i knooooow. going insane over him tbh. like i went into this in my previous meta post about him, esp in enis lobby/water seven arc where he is so clearly affected by everything going on but can't show it. (or feels like he cant)
this reminded me of a thing i havent seen many people talk about, which is that zoro is very often 100% spot on with his predictions, gets ignored, and eats shit for it.
like zoro isnt stupid (despite what some characters and parts of the fandom think) hes incredibly perceptive and his cold read on most people will be accurate. theres several moments where he will predice something happening, rationally explains it to the crew how the best course of action is one thing and then luffy being stubborn and the protagonis does what he wants
not to say that thats a bad thing! i think its awesome to show their dynamic
like back on zou when they find out sanji left to marry big moms daughter and everyone wants to go and get him back
Tumblr media
zoro is harsh in his wording bc he always is but the core of the matter is this: if they go mess with big mom, while they are already anatagonizing kaido, they'll end up having to deal with two emperors. he understands that sanji knew that which is why sanji left the way he did (partially).
and we all know how that ended
Tumblr media
not only that i think this fight is a fantastic display of zoro's core character trait. unlike the three captains in this fight, he doesnt have an ego about it. he's not posturing or peacocking, he knows immediately shits gonna go down (killer too probably but with the mask its harder to tell what killer is thinking) and he's the one person that keeps an overview of the battlefield that includes everyone. law eventually does once he gets over his control issues
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and of course thats not the end of it in wano
Tumblr media
"ill suffer twice as much after" and he doesnt care, beats king, nearly dies or maybe does die and nobody knows about that whole thing
then of course in more recent chapters (spoilers for egghead below)
we have his fight against lucci which i find striking in how the other characters perceive it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
like jimbei can be excused, he doesnt know zoro all that long but the crew acts like this is a point of pride to zoro, to finish the fight. when we've seen zoro run away from fights plenty of times. and to me what he doesnt get to say is exaclty what ends up happening
if lucci isnt taken out, he will tell the elders about the plans he was privy to in eggheads lab. which of course he does when zoro is dragged away
Tumblr media
if the vegapunk hadn't stepped in
Tumblr media
zoro would have fought the elder and most likely lost
same way he knew he'd not be able to win against kuma
Tumblr media
he's telling everyone to stay out of it because he wants to protect them. its not an ego thing for him. he knows the second he stepped up to that fight hes probably going to lose. he's going to do his best to win but he's not delusional
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i find it noteworthy that we are continuing this plot line of the crew not understanding zoro or not trusting him and not to mention this
lucci telling zoro he's dead weight
Tumblr media
and a little bit later, sanji telling him the same thing
Tumblr media
like, thats not their usual banter. this doesnt make zoro angry to like be able to fight off lucci better or sth. the panel of him standing there just, flinching honestly haunts me. (i eat it up oda please do somehting with it)
esp curious paired with my above example where i think zoro understands sanji quite well where i dont think sanji does in return. (another reason why i cant see them romantically im sorry itd require so much legwork for me to make that work)
i think it can definitely be read as a setup of zoro feeling apart from the crew. i think part of that is just due to the nature of his position as first mate in everything but name. like in a literal sense he is their superior the same way luffy is all of theirs. and we know from the usopp argument that he takes that a lot more seriously than the others. so i dont think - at this point in canon - zoro would open up to anyone except maybe luffy but even then thats not really the kind of relationship they have - and i dont think any of them actually see whats going on or what zoro has been doing basically the entire time.
zoro hasn't been vulnerable since his fight with mihawk

I feel like in a lot of your stories, your zoro exudes abandonment issues 🥲 Is that a conscious thing on your part? Or am I projecting lmao
I’m loving the little snippets of fic you post btw always brightens my day 😃
he does. it sorta happened subconsciously i think. im not sure if it started from my interpretation of his character in canon or from myself projecting lol
i think it might be a mixture of both like. the juxtaposition of zoro as a character who is very confident in exactly one area of himself and that is fighting and his strength. like zoro doesnt tend to get jealous until luffy implies someone might be stronger than him. i always think of something the youtube quinn curio said in a video about the umbrella academy talking about the character played by elliot page.
youtube
so i often read zoro as someone who thinks he needs to be the strongest so that has value or is allowed to be there
and another part i think is that zoro is a very lonely character. like we learn about kuina and that she died when she was 11 and that shook him so fundamentally that he's essentially living his life to fullfil that promise he made to her. we've seen koushiro and johnny and yosaku but they were very utilitarian. koushiro was his trainer, i dont think zoro ever mentioned him again since the flashback in like what chapter 5? and johnny and yosaku were a good way to bring arlongs bounty up and show the necessity of having a cook on board. sure they care of zoro and he cares about them but there isnt the sense that they are particulary close. zoro doesn't have a family like nami, or someone who seems to have raised him like family like luffy and sanji. if we take movie canon into it as well he'd have another friend from the doji similarly to kuina who he later thought had died due to him not being strong enough
and even now in the more recent manga chapters we see it implied twice that zoro is "a burden" on his crew, both from an antagonist but then also from a crew member. and unlike when sanji and zoro usually bicker, zoro doesnt respond. we have a panel of him flinching about the comment before he grits his teeth and continues.
addtionally during water seven when everyone is falling apart bc of whats going on he's not allowing himself to be vulnerable. we dont see him miserable or angry or sad because he sees his duty as having to hold it together and make sure everyone gets through this. like zoro was just as affected by merry's fate as everyone else but he couldn't show that (or he felt like he couldnt). its an incredibly isolating experience.
there is that manga panel which i might be misinterpreting bc the speech bubbles make it hard to tell who is actually saying it
Tumblr media
like "huh you saved me" like he's surprised someone would do that.
but even if in that panel its not zoro saying it we still see himself punishing himself after getting injured in a fight even if he ultimately won. after little garden he trains until his feet bleed again, after the fight with mr one not only does he carry nami around for hours and gets shot while injured already he doesnt let himself recover, and then of course after thriller bark.
i always get the sense that zoro puts an enormous amount of pressure on himself as if he has to justify being there and has huge expectations for himself that he needs to meet.
and not to forget that on shabaody, he had no idea what happened to everyone else. he was the first to leave and for all he knew until they got the message from luffy, everyone died bc he was injured. i think that definitely festered.
like (its probably not that deep but you are reading this so far so youre in too deep now)
i thought it was curious. that zoro is the first one back. that he asked perona for help to find the way. as if he was worried. that if he came to late they wouldn't wait. so he made sure he was the best, the fastes, the first. he made sure to show off his new skills immediately. tried to show them off to luffy immediately despite it being a dumb idea to cut their bubble underwater.
so anyway yea i do end up writing zoro as someone who has abandonment issues tied in with his self esteem issues.

Why was there a lot of dramatic music and desperation when Allison was was digging up klaus when everyone - the characters and the audience know full well that if klaus suffocated by the time Allison dug him up……he’d just wake up again?
Klaus’s plotline seemed even more pointless than usual, maybe because there was so few episodes…. Why wasn’t the void mentioned at all…. Maybe it could have come in handy? A whole extra dimension idk

something that has bothered me about tua seasons 2-4 is the inconsistency of the relationships between the siblings.
starting with klaus, in season 1 ben and diego were his people. ben and klaus were always shown together in the flashbacks to them as kids and obviously every second of the show because klaus was the only one who could see him. but like… they were CLOSE. SO FUCKING CLOSE. they were the most SIBLINGS of all the siblings.
that continued into season 2. ben was randomly a bit colder towards klaus but they were still so fucking close.
and then ben left, and klaus for the first time was alone without his person. everyone else lost a brother when they were 17, except klaus. so he had to grieve ben for the first time. that didn’t happen, though. there were many nods to them being close, and then of course steve blackman pulled a steve blackman which means weird unnecessary incest implications, but it wasn’t clear just how close klaus and brellie ben were even though it had to be hard to be around someone who looked like ben and was kind of ben but also wasn’t ben.
and with diego, it also seemed like he and klaus were incredibly close. diego older-brothered klaus constantly s1 and they gave off the impression that they ran into each other a lot in the city during the years since leaving the academy.
then they completely disregarded it for the rest of the seasons. in s2 and s3 there a few interactions that could lend credence to this but for the most part it seemed like they threw it out the window.
allison and klaus had no clear relationship in season 1. they had some incredibly minor sibling interactions but nothing that indicated they were anywhere near as close as they imply in season 4. season 2 they were close and then season 3 not a lot of interaction. but s4 makes it seem like they have always been incredibly close which doesn’t make sense!!
five and viktor have a relatively consistent friendship, although s4 doesn’t really give viktor any relationship development with his siblings. same with five, if anything he just gets his relationships destroyed but that’s a different post!!
allison and viktor also are pretty consistently close. the implication is that they weren’t as kids but that they really try to be as adults, and i do like their relationship overall.
luther and allison nasty ew kill it with fire. like i thought we established in s2 that incest is weird actually and that we weren’t doing that and then season 3 came along and whatever whatever shut up.
diego and luther’s relationship is fun. they go from adversaries to himbo besties and it’s relatively consistent.
luther and viktor have similar growth. luther goes from piece of shit basically causing the apocalypse s1 because of how shitty he was to viktor towards really wanting to make things right and being the big brother he always should have been. they didn’t really have a relationship s4 but WHATEVER.
i feel like five and luther were together a lot the first two seasons and that very much changed. i’m not even that upset as i think five having character arcs with each sibling is good since he missed so many years with them (other than him and viktor they were always close and should have remained that way).
i think allison and diego and viktor and diego having relationship development would have been cool. in the comics viktor and diego have a band so we know they’re friends. and in the show allison and diego don’t have too many interactions but the ones they do have are SOOOO SIBLING and i adore that.
ben and viktor have some closeness s3-4 (and the end of s2) but it’s not really something we see, more so we’re just told. and then random flashback to them hanging out as kids before the mission which was confusing.
i think five and klaus were done the dirtiest with the relationship inconsistency. i understand wanting different characters to have arcs with different people, but when you sacrifice the established relationships and basically put your characters on shuffle then you also sacrifice character consistency, development, growth, etc.
i think a big problem is how many characters they brought on last season. there wasn’t time for consistent relationships among the brellies when they had to use a shit ton of time building new characters and relationships (and immediately killing them all off which was A Choice).
anyway just wanted to write out thoughts about this. would love to know other people’s thoughts (or headcanons about the siblings).

And what about the fives in the subway? Don’t they all have marigolds? And are also in a weird pocket dimension outside of the timelines and therefore still exist?
Wait, so if the Hargreeves gave up their lives to give their Marigolds to The Cleanse to stop it, then what the fuck about all the other super powered children? They never said if there were any other people with the Marigold in the S4 timeline, but the world ended in the previous timelines (and many more that we didn't see) because of the Hargreeves.
It can't be solely them though if there were 36 other children with the Marigold. The Hargreeves can't be the only reason in every timeline that the world ended, especially since Abigail created the Durango. Am I going crazy??

The season started ok but dived off a cliff the last third or so. There’s lots of things to dislike but my biggest issue is the ending which makes the entire show pointless. Who cares about the repercussions of the characters actions when at the end they don’t even exist.
(To say nothing about the fact that them not existing itself is surrounded by massive plot holes and inconsistencies and is therefore not only a bad ending but also a nonsensical ending)

Legit kinda jealous of the person writing the Zoro novel (forgot their pen name), if they don’t take this opportunity to make a real character out of Roronoa Tera, I dont know if I’d forgive them! Or. Or just. Zoro’s backstory is a completely blank slate, and it WORKS for One Piece’s main story, but if you’re gonna take the time to write a (if we go by the length of the Law and Ace novels) 300 page-ish spin off, why WOULDNT you touch on his childhood? And I mean before Kuina. Where did he stay, how did he find food to eat, who looked after him? Bounty Hunting adventures sound fun and badass, but personally even if Zoro doesn’t care about his own origins, I do, okay?
