Hades had been described as a morbid fellow, but that was a given,. Ending time among the dead all day and night will leave one with an ghoulish outlook. The dead even at their best don't make the bets company, either. They're sad, they cry, they complain, the bemoan their continued existence, they have regrets and longings, they say they don't service to be here while the ones who say the opposite are just as bad. Everyday hades had to deal with them a and there is nothing he can do. They're dead. They're not going anywhere.
Charon, good old Charon, everyone loves him, don't they? He arrives and ferries of those souls to Hades. A glorified delivery man but he somehow always stays so chipper about things. He spends all of his time with the dead too, but he doesn't have to spend too long with them. He finds them, gets their soul, gives them the gist of the situation and then points them in the right direction.
'Impaled by a spear, oh dear, that's sad. Your side seems to be winning without you, so there's that/ Don't look at me that way, I'm sure your contribution was essential. Know your comrades will go onto glory and spoils. You my good fellow need to go down that tunnel, yes down the stairs, for about fives minutes, take a left and you'll be at your new destination.'
No one likes Thanatos. He's the lord of the death and he's always around. Hades is thankful he don't have to deal with him but Charon can't get rid of him. Of course Thanatos would be taller, better looking, in better shape, better hair than the other two. He loves his job and is always talking about he is the most important and powerful force ever. He is death. He controls it and is responsible for it. He's the spectre, haunting all of life, waiting for the moment and bam, he gets his man. He has busy days and slow days, able to  drop a ton of work on his co-workers. Why not a plague? He thinks and then suddenly Charon has days of admin. Hades then has to find room for everyone, accommodation and so on. Thanatos loves their hatred and feeds off it. Then again, you can't be responsible for death and not take in stride the things people feel about you.
Have you ever met Athena? Great girl, great girl. Strong woman, definitely. Always knows what's going on, who's doing what. You want something sorted, she'll point you in the right direction. She gives the best advice on any situation. She'll recommend how to fix or make something right for you and if you need help in battle or any sort of aggression, she'll set you up. She's a big supporter of those who think big, so you can bet any major heroes have had a chat or at least pray to her. She's always busy but is making time for everyone. I don't know how she does it, personally. I've seen her in that coffee, she always going through that.
Poseidon. He's the worst. Never had a moment with him that I enjoyed. That big blow hard. He's always showing off, he's short tempered, thinks he's the number one man. He presides over most of the world yet he feels he's never given any respect. Messing with everyone's lives will do that to you, so I'm told. Storms and whirlpools because of something he saw as a slight against him. He's always bragging, always angry and he would rather flood a town than listen to reason. Doesn't shower much. Hate him.
Don't talk to Narcissus.

Me: Oh, it's charming how dorky Marius is, hoping Cosette will notice him if he just awkwardly sits nearby and walks past her sometimes
Me, a few pages later: Marius, ffs

Victor Hugo: Okay, so, I know you want to find out if Javert catches Valjean and Cosette but I need to spend the next chunk of the book giving the history of this convent I just introduced, which I'm using as a springboard to give my opinions on organised religion and monasticism

It’s my childhood Christmases all over again. Only now Mom isn’t here to say, “Shut up, you’ll hurt his feelings.”

my favorite trope is the thing star trek does where when a character lists something and they’ll list real things/people but add 1 thats fictional, like “great writers such as shakespeare, robert frost, edgar allan poe and zaxar the giant rat man“

I managed to squeeze in a another read of Hogfather btw
Am in an awkward place as I try to decide what to read next while ignoring the fact that the timing is perfect to reread Hogfather for the umpteenth time

Finished reading The Lightning Thief the other day. Afterwards, I checked the synopsis of the movie version on Wikipedia, as I’ve heard everyone say the adaption sucks and misses the point.
Boy, they weren’t wrong.
