A few photos to keep the site fresh

Things have been a bit crazy for me the past few months.  Limited in my ability to travel out and about both physically and financially.   Thought I would share a few photos from the Philippines, some are new and some are older and may have been posted before.

All are taken with my Olympus OMD-EM5-II and 12-40 F2.8 Pro lens.  Enjoy.

It is interesting to see that the old Clark AFB Navy Barracks have been converted into public housing after more than 25 years. Affordable apartments and bed-spacing. Bed-spacing is common for young people who work away from home. Basically a bed, locking cabinet for personal goods and access to toilet and bath facilities at very low cost. Just like a military barracks. The apartments are more private and complete, but still more affordable. P1,500 pesos is about. $29 US dollars for one month. While some might consider it backwards, bed-spacing is a common reality in the Philippines. Most apartments are small but energy and space efficient. Meet Mike (I think) He’s from the USA, specifically Montana. Mike is legally blind, but you woudn’t know it to meet him. He has some peripheral vision, but looking forward he says everything is just a grey blob. In the US summer he lives on his ranch in Montana, but for the winters there he comes to the Philippines, because the Montana snows are too much for him to get around in. Despite being mostly blind he travels extensively all over Asia. We met at the Blue Monkey a small little “street bar” near the hotel. A very friendly place with cheap beer, and the best hamburger I have had anywhere in the Philippines or most of the United States. I trike driver brought it to my attention. Away from the main entertainment district, and friendly staff, cold beer and good food, all very affordable. This 1 day trip to Angeles was a great opportunity for me to meet a lot of really nice people. I also had to pick up my new ID card at the immigration office. Another American at the VFW club let me know that instead of going to the big immigration office that in downtown Angeles there is an office where I can get my VISA renewed for 6 months instead of only two. I’ll check that out in May. It will be cheaper in the long run and. A lot less hassle. Some international friends who were staying at the same. Hotel. Can’t remember all their names and probably couldn’t spell them if I did. The guy on the left is from Germany, Wonderful person to talk with but he does like his beer. The young guy on the left is from Finland and was traveling with his Filipina girlfriend (who is very shy). And there were others I met from all over the world, but no photos.
