Friends was aired in 1994 in the United States and it was as successful as other already popular sitcoms as Seinfeld. According to the newspaper USA Today, the last episode, “The One Where Rachel Finds Out” rated an audience of 31.3 millions of people only in the US. Therefore, what is the cause of this success?
The popularity of the show lays in the comical exaggeration of everyday life and in the combination of the personality of the different characters. However, it is remarkable that one of the main plots of the first season is the potential romance between Rachel and Ross and its different stages. However, the rest of the gang contributes to the develop of the general plot of the season, as well as to add most of the comical situations.
The season begins with the introduction of the character of Rachel, since she leaves her fiancé, and also of the character of Ross, as his wife breaks with him because she is a lesbian. In the next episode the main plot still focuses in these two characters since Rachel begins to work at the Central Perk, the cafeteria in which they usually meet, and Ross discovers that his ex-wife is pregnant. However, we have to wait to episode 5 to see Ross and Rachel’s first kiss and also that Chandler breaks with Janice, which can be apparently an unimportant character in this season but she will be more relevant and humorous in the following seasons. Then, episode 9 is important because it is the first Thanksgiving of the gang and it will lead that in the next seasons there will be a Thanksgiving episode as well as one of New Year’s Eve. Besides, in episodes 18 and 19 the most important events are related to Rachel, she gets an interview for a new job related to her passion, fashion, and her ex-fiancé tries to go back to her. Finally, in the last episodes we can see how Ross becomes a father and Chandler reveals to Rachel that Ross is in love with her.
These events bring the audience to the climax of the final episode and this is reflected in the audience rates as you can see in this graph
As you can see the audience rates are not constant, but they eventually increase. Examples of this are episode 10, in which the audience drops drastically, and episode 17, which is one of the most watched episode of this season.

downstoearth ha respondido a tu vídeo “If you love pugs and Friends, this video was made for you!! This video...”
I love your blog and I love Friends so much!! What do you think of Ross and Rachel relationship?
To be honest, we all hate it! We think it’s very toxic and that it brings out the worst of both characters... Rachel (in my opinion) should have stayed with Joey or in Paris with her dream job, and Ross... well, he should just stay alone!!
Tell us, what do you think about them?

Rebeca:
My personal favorite is that Thanksgiving when Monica and Ross start revealing embarrasing secrets of the other to their parents and Joey screaming “I WANNA GOOOOO!!”
Clara:
When they take the duck and the chicken to the “farm”!
Irene:
I LOVE ALL MARCEL SCENES!!

If you love pugs and Friends, this video was made for you!!
This video compiles TV show intros from many popular TV shows and recreates them using pugs, which have become increasingly popular within the las few years. After one pug appeared in a cell phone advertisment in India (Bapna 2016), they became more and more fashionable, and proof of that is we have one youtuber pug here. Still, nowadays pugs and their breeding are becoming controversial because of the many health issues that these dogs suffer from. Many people advocate for people to stop breeding them while breeders defend them because they want to earn money.
However, it is undeniable that the video is cute and that every TV show fan will probably love it.

Let’s get you started on F·R·I·E·N·D·S!
If you are someone who has not watched F·R·I·E·N·D·S, or someone who just wants to go down memory lane, keep on reading as we talk about the first season of this great TV show (alternatively, you can check out this Google Slides presentation we created).
In Season 1, aired in 1994, we are introduced to the daily lives of the main characters of the show: Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross; six adults in their twenties who live in New York. They usually meet and have a coffee in their local cafeteria, Central Perk, and humour is a central element of each episode. Monica and Ross Geller are siblings, she is a cook and a control freak, and he is a palaeontologist who has a complicated love life. In front of Monica’s flat live Joey Triviani and Chandler Bing; Joey is an actor of small soap operas, as well as a Don Juan, and Chandler is a data analyst with a great sense of humour, but none of his friends really know what his job is. Finally, we have Phoebe Buffay, an eccentric and hippie massage therapist, and Rachel Green, a waitress whose dream job is being a fashion designer.
As a matter of a fact, Rachel’s story is the main event that starts the storyline of F·R·I·E·N·D·S: she has left her fiancé at the altar, has nowhere to go, and gets in contact with Monica in order to find a new job and a new place to live. Monica helps her, and thus the story begins. In addition, the other major character that helps the plot move forward in the first episode is Ross: his wife confesses she is a lesbian and wants to get divorced, because she has fallen in love with another woman. All in the same episode!
As the story moves forward, the characters and their stories progressively develop, but we do not want to spoil any information (yet). In the following posts, we will talk about the main events of the season and the audience rates, but for now, here you have an infographic to give you a taste of our work.
We hope you enjoy it!
