I was not sure about the video in context with the story, but I was curious. It made me more drawn in as the two continued. The climax and resolution were great in the overlapping relation. Such a beautiful story. Wonderful job. Thank you for sharing!
Trigger warning: This video has a very severe car crash. Please be safe before clicking!
This is My Module 5 Art project - I got this idea from my favorite of the stories “Ghost Sickness.” I layered Navajo creation mythology teachings with a mountain side car crash - like the story shares. I wanted to discuss the way this particular story felt for me; how Ana lost someone and the recovery that came with that journey. The mountains are a big part of Navajo creation myth, and so I wanted to show the crash there. I hope this speaks to the power of the story.

Such a unique expression and use of objects. I love your message. The use of the child’s dolls makes me almost think it will be fun but the B&W photos and the isolation in the light make this so dramatic and impactful. Very nice job!

Much has changed since the Renaissance. Much hasn’t. Today we celebrate things they shunned and vilified. However, we still shun people for being different. We still fail to stand up for what’s right. I wonder how people in the future will look back on the art we create today. Will they think the same as we think of the art of the Renaissance?

What a great message! Everybody needs a hug, especially after this last year. Perfect song to tie them together and very well cut scenes. Not too long and not to short. Just long enough for the message. Great job!

I wanted to end the semester on a touching, heartwarming note. I struggled to think of a good project idea but eventually I began to recount all my favorite non-romantic hug scenes from animated media. These touching scenes had an impact on me when I first watched them and still do! I decided to overlay a song from another one of my favorite shows because I think it fit the mood very well. My reasoning behind choosing this as my project is because I think the world is in a state of fragility right now—although it is impossible to hug all of your loved ones right now, recalling these emotional moments help ease the separation. Like I have said in past projects, animation means a lot to me. I also think it is important to demonstrate the emotional intelligence of cartoons and just how much influence they have. Years later, now that I am an adult, these clips still elicit a profound response from me. I am curious if anyone can relate. I have really enjoyed 4D art, a lot more than I initially thought I would. Learning video editing, how to make gifs, and new types and styles of art has been such an eye-opening experience. I was even able to use my knowledge and help my boyfriend with his own personal project at one point! I find myself wishing this wasn’t the end, the uniqueness of these projects was something I looked forward to each week. Additionally, I loved getting to see everyone else’s work! At first the thought of a class tumblr seemed somewhat strange, but I now see it as such a unique and successful way to communicate with classmates.

Great job, I can really tell you put some hard work and love into your artwork. Glad to hear you enjoyed the creation of your piece. I have to say the skill in this show you will have a future in animation. Best of luck and thank you for sharing.

GIFS
I really enjoyed this final and the freedom it gave me. That freedom allows me to work in a way that I felt would benefit me regarding what I plan to do with my art in the future. It’s hard to find motivation in things I do not feel I will utilize or benefit from. Because I hope to get into animation, I took the opportunity to create my own gifs. I was originally intent on doing three but between getting the drawings done, trial, error, work, etc. I only ended up finishing two. But thanks to this class I plan to make more until the frames are fluid and more complex.

Fearmonger -- Project 5 Artist Statement
I had grand ideas about making a multi-self-character video, but I let the end of the semester creep up. I had to turn to an idea earlier in the semester. It was to make a Fox News gif coupled with slasher movie clips at the end of each reel. At the time I chose to do a different gif idea but with it in my back pocket and an open project for the final I thought it would make a great piece.
For project 5 I hunted down some clips of Fox News oozing fear stories. This was not hard to find. I then slipped in some well-placed horror movie clips in a building tension of fear. All of this was blanketed by a silly old spooky song “The Boogie Man is Here” to acknowledge the silly nature of Fox News’s hype that everything they don’t agree with or believe in is DANGER, DOOM, PANIC, CRISIS and should be FEARED to rally up their viewers. Nothing sells like catastrophe and the next dire circumstance in Fox News’s eye.
Now do not get me wrong, there are real crises in the world and Fox will occasionally hit on them but most of the time they peddle slopped and one-sided views. In so many ways Fox News is like a constantly running horror movie. The innocent people of the world stumble onto a dark evil that is going to kill everyone. The darkness hides and stocks, all the while, these innocent people do not know what they face. Each new darkness they reveal must be stopped at all costs or the world will end. Even if they end up “winning”, it is not for long because there is a new evil lurking around the next corner. They get their viewers so riled up sometimes it’s dangerous to others. If this were not so sad and terrifying to watch in the real world, it could be a hilarious fiction.
For my video, Fearmonger, I try to show the building of fear and the then fanning of those fear flames Fox News spews. I then laced it with a personification of horror with movie clips to amplify to the audience what Fox is projecting. The blending of the clips together is done with a cartoonishly goofy song in hopes of representing the absurd nature of the over the top and unfounded fantasy of doom Fox News shovels daily. This artwork is something meant to be laughed at and with, but also highlight the fear porn sold to Fox News viewers on a constant basis.

Very impactful to me because I can so easily relate. An entertaining way of showing the endless cycle. I would have to say one of my true nightmares is getting Alzheimer's disease and living your life with holes in your memory or never remembering anything... Great job on the project.

Such a great idea and artwork. So original and a creative approach to an issue you have seen. It is so much more powerful to know that individuals engaged with your work. Sorry to hear it was gone after 24 hours but what a great job. I just wish we could have seen you put it up and people interact with it.

I made this in response to the countless fights that happen at my usual bus stop- it was stolen or removed less than 24 hours later and the rain took a toll on it, but I saw a few people punch it, so that’s worth it in my book :~)

Lovely soft montage. I have to say the song is pretty impressive as a solo. Great timing and story to the video. I feel the elements of being trapped inside and the cycling through the room during the song says so much, and not just from the most recent storm but the last year as well. Very nice job. I wish you success in your music, theatre and video future!!

“Waterlogged” - Original song and accompanying music video.
Artist Statement:
I have been embracing my solo creativity over the course of the pandemic. I used to act professionally in theatre and was always in a show of some kind. The pandemic threw me into an identity crisis. Who am I without this thing that I do? How do I satisfy my need to actively create and transform. I turned my frustration and angst toward music. I have since released an EP and Single under my band name “Blind as Bats”. I challenged myself to learn the ins and outs of production, recording, mixing, and mastering as well as promotion and industry stuff. All of my content is self produced. This song “Waterlogged”, is actually going to be the single release for my upcoming album. YOU ARE HEARING AND SEEING THIS BEFORE ANYONE IN THE WORLD!!
My inspiration for the video was a combination of the techniques we learned throughout the supercut module and the collage module. I wanted to employ elements of color and placement. I also wanted to embrace the juxtaposition of a truly sad song overtop a hopeful image: finding life in creativity at home while writing a song about death.
ENJOY! (And maybe give my other stuff a listen?)

As this performance relates to aiding others over ones self I can relate. I feel the trickle of spoons one by one. Wanting to give them to other places in your life but still giving to others. By the end, your frustration of just tossing the last few with a heavy sigh says so much. A wonderful performance but an all to depressing truth. Very nice performance!
Side note :) I don’t know your situation and don’t mean to speak out of place but thought I might share. Don’t give past what you can in a healthy manner. Always remember to care for yourself first above all others, save very extreme situations. The better position of mind and body you are in, the better you can tend to others. You probably feel good inside helping others, as you should, but if they care about you they need to let you care for you too. If they can’t see that then sadly they don’t care about you and maybe you should take some time away from them. Just speaking from personal experience. Take care of yourself <3
This is my performance piece for unit 4.
I have struggled with people pleasing for a long time. It has made me resent others in relationships, as well as blame myself for their shortcomings. During the pandemic, I had less and less to give to myself, and spent much more time aiding others. I’ve worked hard to unlearn some of this behavior, but I have to watch myself. I can’t put all of my spoons in one place. I need to give myself time to recuperate and work through my own things before helping others. If I have a limited amount of spoons, I need to be wise with them.

Something everyone can relate to. Whether we are busy taking care of 100 things, waiting, thinking, reflecting, regretting, acting, everything we do takes time. Time ticks by slow when we want it to be fast and fast when we want more time. As far as we understand the universe, time will always keep moving no matter what we do. I really appreciate your performance. Great flow of congruency, well timed cuts and the sound of a ticking clock was not needed but added a sense of our mortal measurement. Fantastic job.

A calming and meditative performance. It reminds me of a kitchen early in the morning, still quiet and slow before the day picks up speed. The treasure of learning new things is so easily lost in the hustle of life. How often we take for granted all the things we do every day. Thank you for sharing this moment and performance. It has made me slow down, appreciate the moment and given me peace of mind. Wonderful job.

A delightful performance. You had the emotions you listed, but I feel you had some others as well. Such as trouble/frustration when the balloon would not tie maybe boredom towards the end of playing with the balloon and surprise when you popped it. Just a few more emotions I saw and/or you could play off of if you did this performance again. Thank you for sharing :) Lovely job!
