All about Anza/L
Tumblr media
Name: Leonor Esperanza Soto Pronouns: She/Her Birthday: October 12th Age: 9
Favorite
Color(s): Blue, sea foam, lavender fashion: jeans, shorts, skirts with leggings, dresses for special occasions,  Sports: Soccer, tennis, swimming, ice skating,  Book: Because of Winn-Dixie, Heidi, Esperanza Rising, Becoming Naomi León, Wonder, Pippi Longstocking, Ramona Q series,  Movie: Wonder Woman, Ramona and Beezus,  Tv show: the Owl House, DC superhero girls, Maya and Miguel, Phineas and Ferb, Jane and the Dragon, Maya and the Three, Carmen Sandiego,
Bio Anza may be a bit impulsive, but she’s got lots of great ideas. Always the first to lend a hand, and stand up for others. From starting a library in her room for the kids in our apartment building, to exploring everything Peru has to offer, Anza puts her whole heart into everything she does. She struggles with Math, and goes to tutoring once a week to help her keep up. An Animal lover through and through she’d like to be a veterinarian when she grows up, or a pediatrician, or both! She loves getting outside with Coconut; tree climbing, ball games, playgrounds, beach clean ups, she’s ready for it all. Like her favorite superheroes, she’s ready to help change the world. She loves learning about new cultures and experiences, and loves sharing her own heritage with others. She can be stubborn, and pushes Carmen a bit too far out of her comfort zone but her heart’s in the right place.

All about Carmen
Tumblr media
Name: Carmen Anita Soto Pronouns: She/Her Birthday: June 26th Age: 9
favorites Color(s): Pink, lavender, white,  fashion: dresses and skirts, jewelry, jeans/leggings when it’s cold, Sports: Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Ballet, Ice Skating, book: A Little Princess, Esperanza Rising, The Diary of a Young Girl, Favorite movie: the Brandy version of Cinderella, Encanto, Anastasia, The Swan princess, All the Disney Movies, Favorite TV Show: Elena of Avalor, Jane and the Dragon,  Favorite musical: Matilda, Aladdin,
Bio Carmen is generally shy, and finds public speaking and meeting new people difficult. She was put into a local theater program to help with that, and loves preforming. She is a triple threat, and hopes to someday preform on Broadway. It’s easier, when she’s pretending to be someone else, or pretending to be brave. Lately she’s taken in interest in photography, and history. Coconut, our faithful pup, helps her when she’s feeling anxious, or overwhelmed. Carmen loves her family, and is proud of her Peruvian/Salvadorian heritage. Accompanying the Human Sister (aka Me) to a blind/multi-disabled summer camp, she’s learned to see everyone equally, and to appreciate others’ differences. Maybe she’ll end up being a Special Ed Teacher like Mom if Broadway doesn’t work out.

I’ll admit, I never finished reading or watching the source material.. mostly because of how uncomfortable it made me- a half Afro-Latina, with no tangable connections to the Civil War (though I am descended from Peruvian slaves). Long story short it took me awhile to get the reference but... yikes... I’m glad someone addressed this. If you ask for feedback... people are going to give it to you. While I don’t condone the death threats this person received in their inbox (Please don’t do that, there are people behind these screens) The anger is understandable. Its true people can have different interpretations, but facts are still facts. To one person a serial killer may be a symbol of inspiration, of determination, of fighting back against a cruel world... it doesn’t change the fact they’re still a serial killer. There are many other stories of determination and strength out there... many other role models/basis for dolls who did not own/perpetrate abuse against their fellow human being. At the end of the day, it’s their choice, their collection... but again, if you ask for feedback, people will give it to you.
This post is about @savannah-doll-house
If you ASK for feedback on whether something is offensive (because you know it is) but hide the comments of anyone who rightfully calls you out, you're not going to fool anyone into thinking you have a genuine desire to be anti racist.
If you reblog from this person commenting about the "pretty dress" and not the glaringly problematic choice to make a doll of the most famous fictional slave owner in literary and cinematic history, I'm going to assume you have no genuine desire to be anti racist either.

Spring has Sprung 2022- week 2 Pets!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The girls have 3 pets in total. Coconut as previously stated was a hand me down from my ‘cousin’ (Family Friend’s daughter) shortly after her dad gave me Carmen for Christmas. She’s been Carmen’s faithful friend ever since. Later Leonor won a goldfish at her school carnival, and decided to ‘share custody’ of her new pet with her sister. They named the fish Clio after the one in Disney’s Pinocchio. The newest member of our family is Cala (short for Calabaza or ‘Pumpkin’ in Spanish) Now we all know the stereotype of a dog, a cat, and a fish.... but these three have surprisingly gotten along (aside from an incident on Cala’s first week here with the fishbowl.... but we don’t talk about that... they’re totally cool now) Cala and Coconut can often be found curled up together, when they’re not running around together that is!

Spring has sprung week 1: Reading!
Leonor is an avid bookworm! She loves comics, history, anything really. Carmen also likes reading but she’s more of an Anne of Green Gables, A Little Princess, The Secret Garden type of bookworm. The girls also love cookbooks and craft books!

Look who finally came home! This is Leonor. She was a gift from my dad back in 2012. Her favorite colors are blue, sea green and purple. She also love getting to travel but she loves the different food and experiences more than Carmen, who prefers to stay back with family. She loves getting outside; tree climbing, ball games, swimming. She helps her sister come out of her shell, and Carmen helps her with her math homework. Superheroes are her thing, along with Mulan (animated movie) and just like them she will stand up for what she thinks is right, even if her impulsive nature gets her into trouble sometimes.

The title of this video no longer makes sense. What does a fundraiser about hospital bills have to do with families staying together? (For those who aren’t aware, Maritza Ochoa is a character raising money fo her friend’s uncle. But not because he was sick and couldn't work, because he got detained by immigration and the money is to pay for lawyers. Her book's main topic is immigration. American Girl changed this in their latest World by Us stop motion on youtube.) I don’t know if you realize this but by changing Maritza’s story so completely, you’ve taken away her identity as a Latina. To say Immigration is an adult problem, is ignoring the cries of children in the Latinix community. In my building alone, children as young as five years old were frightened that their parents would be taken from them. The children in detainment centers have been through more traumas than any child should that will have lifelong effects. I know what it feels like to not be seen as American despite being born here just because your family is from the ‘other’ Americas. I was told it was illegal for me to speak Spanish in school (It’s not) I am constantly called Mexican (I’m not, my family is from Central and South America)  Raising money for a hospital is admirable, but it could've been done with any doll and the story wouldn't have changed... what makes Maritza, Maritza is her experiences, her culture, and why that fuels her passion of keeping families together. It affects her friends, classmates, her community. All of this was taken away. To change Maritza’s story is to invalidate all of that, and should never have happened in the first place. Especially not to a doll from a line claiming to celebrate diversity.

Absolutely adorable scientific conclusions

I made a handy dandy anatomy chart for those of you who might be unfamiliar with the terminology. This is 100% scientific and is the result of years of intense study.

I got the caddy a few weeks ago for a really good price online! As much as I tried to take care of her hair over the years, i could never get it out of her face. I used my own clips and hair ties but they were way too big! Now that I’m an adult though... such a good investment! It took me a while but I managed to re curl everything and get Carmen’s hair in two ponytails! I was hesitant at first but Dad said it’s my money, and honestly I think he’s just happy to see me off the computer lol.

This is Carmen! I was lucky enough to get her when I was eight years old. A family friend (who was better off than we were) caught me staring at his daughter’s six dolls and got me one of own that Christmas. She’s gone with me everywhere since. She loves pink, traveling to go see family in South America, and baking. She plays soccer and does gymnastics, though she’s a bit shy, and generally the more behaved one of the two. Right now, she’s kinda lonely since her sister is at the Doll Hospital.
