ME AND THAT FUCKING BOOK I LOVE-

'Under the Whispering Door' by TJ Klune made me cry 6-7 times, in the best ways possible, and made me pound my fists against my couch, because it made me feel so many emotions.

CW/TWs: Mentions of depression, murder, and suicide

It talks about grief in the most poetic, profound ways possible from sorrow and melancholy, the 5 stages of grief, to acceptance, to anger and vengence, especially from those who have been through suicide and murder.

The book follows Wallace Price, an asshole lawyer, who dies from a sudden heart attack. He ends up at his own funeral, akin to Robin Williams' character in 'What Dreams May Come', and meets a reaper named Mae. Mae brings Wallace to a tea shop called 'Charon's Crossing' to introduve him to a Ferryman, Hugo, who serves tea to the living and helps the souls brought to him come to terms with their death and their decisions to stay at the shop or move on to their afterlife.

Along the way, Wallace deaals with being a ghost with the help of Nelson, Hugo's deceased grandfather, and Apollo, Hugo's deceased and failed service dog (the first reason I sobbed like a baby, cos my retired guide dog passed earlier this year), and learns what it means to truly live, because even after death, you're still there.

Also, there's a romantic subplot between Hugo and Wallace that builds at the best pacing possible and comes to a satisfying end!!!! I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator made Wallace sound like Miles Edgeworth, sooo, bonus to me!!!

Honestly, I think this one is my new favorite book!!!! Next book on the reading list: 'Death by Tea' by Alex Erickson.
