We have some back vet bills that need to be paid off, totaling approximately $800. Can you help us pay these off so that we may continue to provide the best vet care to our animals? www.tinyhooves.org/donate We lost our sweet Momma B the pig this summer to a recurring pyometra (infection in the uterus). We spent months medicating her and having the vet out to help. In the end, we ended up taking her to the University of Madison Vet School, where ultimately, we made the choice to compassionately release her from her pain and suffering. She was one of the 10 adult pigs we took in last November, and she was one of the females that gave birth in January. We miss her dearly, and would love to pay off her bills and bring her ashes home to Tiny Hooves. Gracie the horse has resided at Tiny Hooves for 3 years. She is an older lady, in her 30s. We do not know her history, but we do know she has Cushings and requires a special diet and medication. Because of this disease, her systems are very sensitive and delicate, and two weeks ago, Gracie got colic. We had the emergency vet out to help ease her pain and attempt to fix her situation. With our vet's help and our close attention to her recovery, Gracie pulled through and so far has been doing excellent! Her diet has changed again, but she is very happy about that and is eating like a champ! We do have an emergency vet bill due for her care. River the sheep was picked up by animal control this summer running down a frontage road. Just a little baby and not feeling well, and with nowhere to go, she was brought to us. We provided emergency vet care to her, and it turned out she had pneumonia and a parasite infestation. She was only 2 months old. Animal control did locate her "owner", and our team pleaded with him to let us keep her, as he had planned on slaughtering her and eating her. He had set her down for a minute and she ran for her dear life. River now happily lives with our special care herd, and has taken our mini horse Aurora on as her momma. We have a vet bill pending for her care this summer, as well. Your support and donations are what saved River and Gracie, and what provided the best care to Beatrice. Today was very exciting! Eddie, our disabled dwarf goat, made a trip to see his favorite vet, Dr. Wiegel at @elkhornvetclinic today to get casted for his prosthetic leg!! Tomorrow his cast gets shipped out to @animalorthocare so that his prosthesis can be custom made to his measurements. We cannot wait to see the range of motion this can give Eddie, and the relief on his other legs and muscles. WOW @chicagoanimalsave and @tiny_hooves_rescue volunteers!! We had an incredible group of volunteers today that really knew how to get some work done! It was 90 degrees, humid, and gross, and they still all came together to help care for our residents. They completely cleaned our aviary, home to 60 of our feathered friends, cleaned the pig yards and gave them fresh straw to play in, landscaped around the fences, raked the equine pasture, and even got over to the goat pasture to cleanup as well. We cannot thank you enough CAS for setting up this work day, and gor your hard work, dedication, and compassion. Your activism helps brings animals to sanctuary, while still compassionately educating along the way, which is what THR is ALL ABOUT. Thank you all so much for your help today! Last week we tragically lost a very special resident, Mr J. Mr J. was rescued back in November after he was set up to be killed in a ritual slaughter in NYC. Mr. J. was a Cornish Cross rooster, or what the industry dubs as a "broiler". This means he was bred to eat constantly and grow to be massive in a short amount of time so he could be killed at six weeks of age. Cornish Cross chickens literally have double the breast muscle of other chickens. Because of this fact, these chickens also have to be kept on a limited diet and have no perches. But Mr. J. escaped that fate and lived the last ten months surrounded by love and his best friend, Harley, at his side. Anyone who knows and loves a Cornish chicken will tell you it's a love like no other. Mr. J. was as sweet and curious as he was food-motivated. Mr. J. likely died of a massive heart attack - not unusual for Cornish Cross roosters. His poor body could no longer keep up with him. While we will miss you and love you eternally, J, we are thankful for every day you showed us your love. I chose to attach a photo of him as a healthy young boy, before he was forced to struggle with his size and genetics. These chickens should never exist, and we are so sad that they do.
