The other day i had the oppertunity to sync up with a friend who usually runs on an oppsite schedule to my own. He'd recently gone on a trip to Cali and one of the things which stuck out most to him was a place he went to that was served "siphon coffee". As soon as he got back home he hit me up to tell me all about it. He'd already found a place here in New York that serves it so we made a date. The place is called Hi Collar, and if you weren't looking for it you'd easily walk past it without noticing. Its a narrow shop with the staff operating behind the bar to the left and seats for the patrons on the right side. we found a pair of seats tward the back and were passed menus right away. The first page listed the kind of coffee styles they serve, the second listed the beans you could order. I got a hot syphon coffee and my friend got the cold. I was feeling a tad hungry so i also ordered their hot cakes, which turned out to be small tasty pancakes with a slight citrus flavor. My friend went with their Omurice, a fluffy omlet over rice glazed a tomato sauce. I picked at his meal, which tasted like nothing i'd ever had before. I'd order if I found myself there again feeling damned hungry. It's actually a pretty substancial amount of food. They didn't provide us with sugar when they brought over our coffees, nor did I see any packets around so we tried our coffees as they were served. It's easier for me to drink cold unsweetened coffee than hot, and he seemed to like my hot coffee better so we swapped. I happily finished the rest of his cup. We finished up and paid our bill which wasn't too bad.. We stopped in Toy Tokyo for a bit since it wasn't far. Toy Tokyo is a shop that sells lots of old (1980s-1990s) toys, figurens and trinkets. They also have a quite a selection of mystery toys from all sorts of different shows including Naruto, Supernatural, Loony Toons and more. I usually pick one up for my boyfriend and one for myself. This time I successfully resisted the urge to buy all the stuffs. The last place we went to came as a wild idea by my friend, some ice cream shop called Big Gay Ice Cream. Another small place with a decidant menu. All the choices sounded amazeballs; we ultimatly decided on Monday Sunday, Vanilla-Chocolate ice cream twist with nutella whipped creme in a waffle cone. In short, it was fucking delicious. From there I left him and went off to work. If was a lot of fun and now I have two new places to consider when deciding what I want to do the next time I'm in that neck of the woods.
