This Doduo’s trainer refers to their mon as ‘they’ in more ways than one! This doduo is intersex, the only thing that sets them apart visually are their differently colored necks, outside of that each head has a pretty similar temperament. The male half they named Andy and the female they call Anne! I usually don’t ask to take photos of patients when they discharge, but I was so excited to see a fellow nonbinary icon I couldn’t help myself. (They were just in for a sprained knee, after some PT they’re just needing to wear a knee brace for a bit, so all is well!)

Why do Gliscor have an exoskeleton... are they bugs? Their wings aren't like a bug's at all, though...

Thanks, anon! That’s a great question! Like all bat pokemon, the gliscor line is mammalian, not bugs. Their “exoskeleton” is actually a series of keratin plates to form a shell similar to those on a sandshrew. They do still have an endoskeleton.

Unlike most other bats, gligar spend a lot of time on or near the ground. This is because unlike other bats, the gliscor line is not capable of true flight. Instead, they glide. Once evolved, gliscor with its broader wingspan is much more effective in gliding, carefully navigating updrafts and winds so it can glide immense distances using minimal energy. Gligar, however, being much smaller and less efficient in gliding has more of an up and down lifestyle.

Gligar tend to live on rocky cave walls or on cliff faces, and they consume larger prey on the spot rather than flying off with it. Upon spotting prey, they leap and glide toward it, latching on with their claws and stinging with their venomous tail. They have to remain on the ground while they eat because they can’t just fly away. After feeding, they then have to shuffle back along the ground and climb back up to their perch. This long ground time leaves themselves exposed to predators. The shell helps protect them during this grounded period.

Once evolved, gliscor maintain their keratin shells. The shells become smoother, reducing drag and making them more aerodynamic for their long glides. Think about how airplanes are always smooth not rough.

The shells also provide protection when battling others of their kind for territory, protecting them from pincers and stingers.

So that’s why the gliscor line has a shell! They look a lot like flying skorupi, but they’re not bugs at all! Isn’t that cool?

About 10 years back, in the Pinwheel Forest, I still had no mons, no means to travel, didn't have an apartment to my name, and had no means to turn this hobby that's only technically tangential to Pokémon into something worthwhile. For personal pride, I don't really experience it in the same way other people do. Maybe knowing the awareness around Silph Co. and malware is spreading, and safety is gonna spread? That's the biggest genuinely positive impact I've had.

For regional pride, when Ghetsis tried to crawl his way back and we kicked his ass to the curb. That's what he gets!

Why are all the people on here teens, and why are they all in such extremely dire straits? I joined rotomblr because I was told it was fantastic for photography and creative expression, and now whenever I log on I see another kid talking about their death.

Sorry I haven't posted too much here, folks; I'm not inclined to this sort of thing. I never used any sort of GTS or C-Gear or any other communication platform before this. Not very tech inclined in this field, at least!

Here's a neat quirk about the move poison sting: just like toxic, any Pokémon can technically learn it, for the most part to very little detriment... but a handful of Pokémon are completely incompatible. One extremely odd one? Foongus can gum up its gills if it attempts to use Poison Sting too many times, so it's considered a hazardous incompatibility!

Genuine question, but what harm does a counterfeit TM pose? Wouldn't it just not work?

All depends on the counterfeit!

Some counterfeits are produced by genuine sellers who know what they're doing, and through a TR Scanner you can easily tell they're clean. No adverse effects on a Pokémon. This encompasses maybe 10% of all counterfeits.

The next most likely are the ones that just straight up don't function. You'll load them into a TR Scanner and they'll come up blank. About 10-15% of them fall here.

Then, we have what I call the oddities. TMs that are very clearly illegal for League Challenges, but aren't explicitly adverse for the Pokémon. Some examples I've found:

An Outrage TM that had a 75% chance to confuse, not guaranteed

A Vine Whip TM that had a chance to lower the opponent's Special Defense by 1 stage (not sure what the goal there was)

A Fire Spin TM that had a chance each turn to inflict BURN

and the list goes on.

Finally, the malware. TMs can either intentionally or unintentionally cause minor to severe damage to Pokémon, both temporary and chronic.

In the case of negligent malware, Silph Co., for instance, had an issue with the TM Counter about 25 years ago, where mons who thought they had successfully landed a counter would be stuck still, and some even suffered seizures. I know someone with a disabled Chansey who had to deal with that.

As for predatory malware is compatibility malware. Hyper Beam should NEVER be taught to a Weedle, their bodies cannot handle the stress. I have personally, recently, seen one's horn severely damaged when it was told to use it.

Finally, there's the outright evil. Malicious malware, like the one created by Team Plasma about 15 years ago, causes the Pokémon to be incapable of developing Friendship... which, in turn, isolated them from not only other trainers, but Pokémon as well.

In short: if you're going to go second market, be safe, get a TR Scanner or two, and by god, do not get anything from Silph Co.
