I’m getting more and more invested in the idea that Heartman has been to Higgs’ beach and something happened there.

Heartman is really interesting to watch in the scene where Higgs hijacks a red samurai. First I need to point out the little moment where you can see him searching for Deadman right when the red samurai appears like he’s surprised Deadman left him. He looks like he’s thinking You’re not here? It’s kinda cute.

But as others have pointed out because of the camera angle it’s really difficult to tell if Higgs is saying this to all of them just Sam or just Heartman.

What’s really interesting is how Heartman side eyes Sam then looks back at Higgs and shakes his head. Is he just in disbelief? Is he telling Higgs he isn’t pleased to see him? Or is he telling Higgs no please don’t let them know I’ve been visiting you?
I like to think Heartman stumbled upon Higgs’ beach by accident and Higgs did something horrible that terrified Heartman into never mentioning it again. Just lock it back up and throw away the key. That could be why he shakes his head. He is terrified and Higgs even looking in his direction is making him think nonononononono
But it could also be that he has been checking up on Higgs and Higgs has been tricking him into thinking they had nothing to worry about until it was too late. Heartman could have kept his visits secret from the others because they’d worry he might accidentally let Higgs out. Now he feels guilty for letting it get this far which might be why he struggles more than anyone to get free of the tar to grab Tomorrow when she starts sinking.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t look like there’ll be a third game unless someone other than Kojima wants to take over but if we knew a third game was on its way I’d be super suspicious.

I always thought it was weird how Mama, Heartman and Lou were the only people who turned their heads to look at the camera in this version.
Why didn’t they all look away or turn? And of all the people to acknowledge the camera I’d expect Higgs to be one of them.

I wondered if it was foreshadowing for the second game but I don’t think it is? At least I can’t think of anything.
Maybe it’s just because they’re a mom, a dad and a child who all have yellow in their design?

I keep noticing new things like how the tube(?) that runs from Heartman to Deadman’s heart looks like an extremely long umbilical cord in thickness and color. With all the other birth and umbilical cord symbolism in the game I’d be surprised if it was an accident but I’m not sure why Deadman’s heart is Heartman’s symbolic placenta.

Heartman and Deadman’s footsteps sound so heavy when they walk up the stairs. Do you think it’s because Heartman walks differently when Deadman possess him or does he suddenly weigh the same as Deadman? I know it doesn’t make any sense but neither does Deadman’s glasses suddenly appearing on Heartman’s face.

Death stranding 2: ring analysis
DS2 analysis about the drawbridge members and the placement of their rings because I can’t stop thinking about what Kojima said about paying attention to their placements because they say stuff about the crew
SPOILERS BELOW

Sam: Right thumb
The thumb is known for wealth, particularly for men, as it was historically a symbol for showing off expensive rings (as the larger size made them more costly) on their thumbs. It can also be seen as a sign of courage and strength, as archers commonly wore them to protect their thumbs.
Kojima mentioned that Sam wears his on his thumbs for the likes but I also see how strength and courage play into his character. He is THE delivery man, the man who has gone through so much grief and yet he pulls through for others and doesn't give in to selfish thoughts. He is strong and courageous for the work he does but that doesn't stop him from being vulnerable.

Fragile: Right thumb (specifically on her gloves)
As mentioned with Sam, I think this goes for Fragile in a similar way. She has been through a lot, and pushed through with her determination and strength. She's fragile but not that fragile. However, I think that her ring being placed on the gloves is interesting because I think it ties into her detachment from the crew. After what happened with Higgs, although she is there with the crew, as we later find out, her ha was biding time before it finally caught up with her. Her ring not really being attached to her own hand symbolizes this to me.

Rainy: Right pinky finger
The ring on the right pinky is known for having reached professional achievements or personal accomplishments. it can also be known for wearing it on that side for style and showing off a persons individuality.
I believe this is important for Rainy as she had been previously ridiculed for her DOOMs ability with the timefall, and she was on the verge of killing herself before Fragile found her and helped her realize she wasn't just destructive as she also had the ability to create corefall. Rainy shows off her individuality from others, now not as a weakness but as a strength as she now uses her ability to help others like Sam.

Tomorrow: Right pinky finger
Again, I think the individuality aspect is still important here. The fact that Rainy is the one to place the ring of Tomorrows pinky, just like her, shows how similar the two are. Both have aging related abilities, both started out unable to control it. And just as Rainy learned and joined people who cared about her, so did Tomorrow. Tomorrow reaches a lot of accomplishments, but the biggest being regaining her memories as Lou and rebelling against what Higgs was trying to use her for.

Tarman: Left middle finger
Wearing a ring on your middle finger is seen as bold, as it is the more unusual places for a ring. Having a ring on this finger can be a sign that the person is looking for solace and stability in their life, and the ring is a helpful reminder of that.
I believe Tarman still feels a bit guilty over the loss of his son, and he even mentions his hope that his son might still be there to watch him, ties into the part about looking for stability. His hope that his son's ka might be out there is keeping him from spiraling into feeling too guilty about what happened.

Heartman: left ring finger
The ring finger is most commonly known for marriage. it symbolizes love, creativity and most of all, commitment to another person. In ancient civilizations, it was believed that the ring finger has the 'Vena Amoris', Latin for "vein of love", which connected directly from that finger to the persons heart.
This one I feel is the most obvious. Not only is Heartman still looking for his wife and the devotion is to his wife, but also his devotion to finding her and their child on the beach.

Die-hardman: left index finger
A ring on the index can be symbolism for self ambition, authority, and dominance. the index is the dominant finger, so that dominance translates into the ring position. Historically, a lot of important family's had their rings on their index to flaunt their status and leadership.
This one is my favorite because it shows Die-hardman's growth from DS1. It's kinda like he's taken the mantle from the two people he loved (Bridget and Cliff) and now he is the one in charge of his life, and of others. Die-hardman is the leader behind Drawbridge's operations and instead of hiding behind a mask, he is taking charge and pushing back against those like APAS who seek to destroy humanity like Amelie did.
Correct me if I'm wrong about any of these, I cross referenced a couple of different sources but I just wanted to go into detail because I do love how there are small details like this in DS2 that give us more insight about the DHV magellan crew

I bought one of these little dudes and they’re way heavier than they look. Apparent their core is made of metal? So my headcanon now is that cryptobiotes are in fact pretty dense and almost like chewing on chicken nuggets

Every time people complain about Kojima’s naming conventions I wonder what they think would be gained if the characters were named John Brown or Alice Miller?

Am I crazy or can you kinda see the Red Samurai’s face in Heartman’s new heart monitor? The new rounded shape, the dot in the middle surrounded by five lines. It also feels symbolic that it has blue tubes (Heartman’s color) and red tubes (Deadman/Samurai’s colors). And maybe Heartman isn’t just being cute with his heart shaped glasses. It could be an early hint that he has two hearts now?
