Don’t worry, it doesn’t just take down the sources post, but it takes down all the reblogged posts too. Please give this a reblog, many artists out there may not know this is here. I just want to say seeing that this blog exists gave me so much joy. I keep going on sprees trying to report and take down reposts for my Tolkien art friends and now there's a blog for it, I just feel so content.

Thank you, all the rangers are happy to see our efforts appreciated by the community, just as we appreciate your own efforts to better the Tolkien fan space. You are always welcome to submit any of your findings to this blog so can more dutifully keep track of thieves and signal theft activity to our followers.

There has been a large influx of art theft since tBotFA and the rangers would like to apologize for not appearing to be active here in addressing that. In reality, many of the rangers have been addressing the thefts on their own personal blogs as in many cases the thefts have been of their own artwork. It's certainly ironic that this blog would see a slump of inactivity while the rangers have never been busier or more active.

But the rangers remain dutiful just as we remain anonymous, and we welcome followers and fans to aid the common cause by submitting and contributing art thefts.

Excuse me but I always post the sources for artwork I find. The post you just tagged is very much linked to kadeart's pixiv artwork site and I mentioned kadeart by name.

The problem in this instance isn't the sourcing of the artwork, it's the re-posting. I realize our standard caption uses the word "unsourced" and that could create confusion.

Kadeart has already posted their artwork on their tumblr blog. As such it is disrespectful to re-appropriate their artwork into your own post without the artist's permission. An artist always has the right to the integrity to their work and that means displaying it in the format with the caption, comments, links, or context of their choosing as well as to generate traffic to their tumblr blog and monitor it via those posts. Re-posting artwork is an infringement of this right and disrespectful.

In the future please be careful to see whether or not artwork has already been posted to tumblr by the artist or if you wish to see it compiled ask the artist to do so themselves. It's up the artist's discretion on how to present their artwork and this is protected not only through copyright laws but tumblr's policy.
