Women without men - Documentary by Sherin Neshat
'Women without men' is a 2009 film adaptation of the 1990 Shahrnush Parsipur novel, directed by Shirin Neshat. Neshat's work explores gender issues in the Islamic world.
The film profiles the lives of four women living in Tehran in 1953, during the American-backed coup that returned the Shah of Iran to power.
This documentary by Sherin Neshat shows a deep current of feminine resilience below an impassive exterior. The story tells us that women are strong and powerful without men and that the future is feminine.

One of my illustrations for my final publication which is an illustrative book. The medium I have used in order to create this dotwork is a fine liner.
This illustration represents a heart made out of arms which are hugging eachother, it represents love and equality. The shades of arms are different shades. It shows that everyone is equal and should be treated with respect.

Cindy Sherman
Cindy Sherman uses her body in various roles as well as personas within her work. Sherman also uses a wide range of costumes. It is almost like she has multiple personalties ans she is choosing which one she wants to have each day. Cindy explores the femininity as well as female stereotypes within her work. Cindy Sherman explores the typical idea of beauty, however she does it in a more seductive and abstract way.
The way Sherman is engaging with her audience is by examinating and distorting femininity as a social construct. Another way Sherman engages with her audience is trying to make other people recognise something of themselves rather than her in her art work.

Here, Sherman exposes milk swollen breasts made out of plastic and cradles a false pregnant belly beneath her shawl. Sherman's obvious use of prosthetic body parts and theatrical setting compel the viewer to think about the posturing and modeling of the original historical sources. For this reason, many critics have praised Sherman's deconstruction of overtly masculine vision of the female in the history of art.

Cosmopolitian - magazine
While reading a magazine, I came across the topic of men and how the society does not allow them to express their feelings after they reach a certain age otherwise they are portrayed as not ‘masculine’ enough. In my opinion this is serious issue which has to be adressed.

Seires of acrlic paintings. I have decided to paint still life as those paintings are quite soothing and peaceful. However, this is my abstract way of presenting still life. I have sed wide range of jazzy and alarming colours because the colour excites me. I also used those colours in order to egage with my chosen audience, I believe vibrant colours would have a better impact on my audience. I have decided to put those in my portfolio because I believe they look astonishing as a set.

Here I have experimented with a technique called acid etching for the first time. It was a interesting as well as fun experience because it helped me develop myself as an artist and stepout of my comfort zone.

I believe people should do whatever makes them happy and dress however they like and that they should not care about other people’s opinions as long as you’re happy with yourself and the things you are doing. Like RuPaul once stated, “Unless thye’re paying your bills, pay them no mind”.

In order to create this artwork I have used various mediums such as oil pastels, water colours and fine liners.

A continous line drawing of withered daisies. Created with a fine liner. I have decided to draw flowers because the society portrays flowers as feminine and fragile which I believe is not true and flowers should be enjoyed and admired by everyone and not only women. The reason why I have decided to create this piece of art work with a continous line is because it represents that all women are united with eachother and they support one another. I have decidd to put those in my portfolio because in my opinion they look incredibly good as a set.

In order to create this series of faces and eyes, I have used a wide range of colours, ink and fine liners. Those faces are sort of like masks which represent how feminine men have to put an invisible mask in front of some people and hide their true identity and personality so they wouldn’t get bullied or even killed for being themselves. I have decided to put those faces and eyes in my portfolio because I believe they look extremely well as a set.
