to be fair, i do feel pretty apologetic for my customer service reply, i was having a rough day and didn't control my reactions . . 🧍🏻 all the same, judging someone's literacy based on half-thoughts spoken to oneself in tumblr tags is a strong start regardless of the native language of either party . . why can't people just simply ask "what did you mean by this?" instead . . ?

i find it incredibly charming that ziyal adapts this puppy-ish devotion to garak which she doesn't seem to extend it to anybody else and garak's so desperate for some kin company that he lets it happen whilst being visibly uncomfortable...i think it's only second to the desperation to julian's chrysalis episode moments (except I feel very deeply for julian. garak is somewhat funny...in a sad clown way) it's such an interesting dynamic i wish people wouldn't dismiss exploring it just because ziyal is younger!!! ziyal is so cute... like a pomeranian when she compliments garak's wedding gowns for example...

aww yeah i agree. i do think its sad that their actual on screen relationship kind of gets buried behind the kneejerk reaction many have towards "uncomfortable romantic framing" because what we actually get from the two of them is very nice, if bittersweet. i dont wanna pathologise it but i do think what ziyal and garak have is very much that "two people in very difficult situations and circumstances bonding over being so isolated" and it can be sooooooooo fun and good to explore. the one-sided crush is also fun lmao there is lots of sadness included too, especially with ziyal's death in mind. honestly i think its such a shame the show never went to explore garak's (and kira's!!!) grief more. though i do think ziyal chose the "puppyish" role very purposefully, she clearly thinks shes being sooo manipulative and wrapping this old pathetic man around her finger for a while, i love that they made her cheeky. it's nice to see with what little character development and screentime she got

Why are people saying dislike for Ziyal/Garak specifically is biphobic? I'm so confused.

i genuinely & from the bottom of my heart feel honoured you'd ask me this, since i'm not very articulate in english.

an argument was presented, that it's more defensible to state garak is gay because we have more evidence of him being attracted to men and less when it comes to women, where exhibit A is his aversion to ziyal's romantic approaches and exhibit B being his obvious interest in our CMO.

garak and ziyal are incompatible on every single possible level. judging garak's sexuality based on his experience with this one person doesn't come across as plausible. again, in the actual series we don't see him pursue a relationship with either gender, but saying garak is homosexual because he doesn't wish for ziyal's company very much reinforces the real-life stereotype where bisexual people's identities are invalidated if they have only presented interest in/have dated either gender up until a given point.

my friends who have only dated or flirted with men but identify as bisexual are still bisexual. their relationship with person A or B that went wrong isn't an indication or my cue to change my mind about them.

if someone wishes to take a stand by garak's homosexuality i would like to hear about arguments besides his discomfort when ziyal kissed him. i think garak could absolutely pull anyone, more appropriate for his age and worldview of course.

it's everyone's right to view him as they please, of course. i am not sending people to jail over elim garak, i am upset at real life treatment of bisexual people and how people wish to reuse these weak arguments for media analysis.

Julian Bashir makes himself less scary because if we're being honest Julian Bashir is kind of terrifying. He's stronger, faster, has better reflexes, thinks and processes at incredible speeds, he is also a medical professional who knows what will or won't kill you. Julian absolutely hates the idea of someone fearing him.
