Mix 1 / Moody Heart Howlers on a Stroll

The weather in West Tokyo has been perfect since 60 degree days have been more common as of late. Which means the season of strolls is upon us. Everyone has a certain pace to walk to. Beating toms driving a rhythm and layered female vocals fading on the backbone of a tight groove make the journey quicker in stride, but enjoyable for me. If you like rock, post-punk, and shoegaze, here are a few tracks you might enjoy on your next stroll.

最近、西東京の天候は15度ぐらいでちょうどよくなりました。 そこで寒さが消えるにつれて外で散歩するのは心地よくなります。 歩く時に、どんな音楽を聴くのが好きでしょうか？ 私に聞けば、 トムがどんどんと叩かれ、重ねた女のボーカルがリズムの上に響いて消えていくという感じと答えるかもしれません。 その調子で、好きなロック、ポストパンク、後シューゲイザーのミックスを作りました！ 外でフラフラするときに聞いて��ければもっと楽しめると思います。

Powerplant / A Spine

Once you hear those phasered notes on the low-end, you’ll fall in love with the tone of this song. I recommended this track to a parent of a child who took classes at a conversation school I worked at and they said it was too hardcore. Is it not cool to freak out anymore? But I think the distinct vocal style is dark and smooth. The dry drums and synth kind of shout DEVO, too. Listen to the whole EP! It’s very short.

フェイザーがかけたギターもベースのリフを聞いたらすぐにハマっちゃうかもしれません。 実は私が英会話で働いた時に、教えていた子供のお父さんにこの曲をすすめました。 一週間がたった後で、お父さんの感想を聞きました。 「激しぎる」と言いまして残念でした。 まー、日本でも十人十色とよく言いますね。 Different strokes for different folks. それでも、バンドのボーカリストの歌い方がかっこいいし、 リバーブあまりかけないドラムもシンセサイザのトーンを聞くとDEVOの曲に似合うと思いました。 この曲が入るEPが５曲ぐらいだけありますから、ぜひ聞いてくださいね。 短いですけどインパクトがばっちりです。

Soft Kill / Missing

I first heard Soft Kill’s music on my hometown’s college radio station—WVUM. (If you want to listen to the station check the link below!) This song grew more on me in the past six months than the one I originally heard on the Radio. The toms on the track particularly would give me the determination to climb a labyrinth’s walls and continue running to the goal as I balance along the narrow tops while clearing gaps between them. If you’re a moody brooder like me you’ll enjoy this track.

Soft Killを初めて聞いた時に、故郷にある大学の「WVUMラジオ」で発見しました。 （聞きたかったらリンクを以下に投稿しますね。 ） もともと「Cry Now, Cry Later」という歌が好きだったが、同じのアルバムに入ってる「Missing」のが最近気に入りました。 ドラムのトムを聞くと、自分がありえないラブリンスにいるというメージが想像します。 あと、脱出するためそのラブリンスの壁に登って、上の壁面の狭いスペーズに走しって、ギャップをクリアしたりできる気が出ます。 ポストパンクの大ファンだったらSoft Killが気に入ると思います。

Flipturn / Weepy Woman

Big fan of the cymbals on this track. The sound of drumsticks hitting rims has always been one of the most pleasant elements implemented in softer sections in rock music. The way the lead synth pierces through the mix and shares the stage with the distorted guitars without getting in the way is perfect, too. Achieving the balance between two prominent sounds like that is what I’m currently trying to understand more in production. A solid track for sure.

音響の面から、シンバルの音が耳にちょうどよく当たります。 その上、歌は静かなメローにドラムのリムが叩かれたらダイナミックで鳥肌が出ることがあります。 リードシンセサイザーはミックスに突き刺すが、ディストーションがかけるギターのトーンがなくさずにはっきりと聞こえる。 私がこんなバランスを自分の作る曲にしたいですから参考の曲として使ったほうがいいかもしれません。

Temple of Angels / Cerise Dream

Temple of Angels. They are so slept on it bothers me sometimes. Originally, I wanted to include their track Silver Water into the mix, but I think Cerise Dream ends a stroll on a more blissful note. What I love particularly is how well the reverb hugs each element in the tune. The backup vocals laid out  on the stereo field either hard left or hard right get a nice, sloppy chef’s kiss from me, too.

Temple Of Angelsは今もまだあまり有名じゃなくて信じられない。 もともと「Silver Water」という歌をミックスに入れたかったが、「Cerise Dream」のほうが最後のに置いて適切だと思いました。 特になにが魅力的かというと、リバーブはすべての楽器も声をぴったり囲まれます。 全部は同じのスペースを取っているみたいな感じです。 バックアップボーカルもステレオフィー��ドにうまく分かれて 、天国にいるみたいな気分を与えます。

オルゴールの音質をしているシンセサイザーの響き、 パームミュ��トのグルーブ、 それから上がったり落ちたりするサブベース。 ドイツの出身ディープハウスのプロデューサーJascha Hagenの最新アルバム「Songs For A Future Generation」を聞いたら その特徴的な音が響きます。

In the search of ambient music, I really had no clue I was going to stumble upon deep-house which had me envisioning the traversal of a muddy river.

It was only because of my knowledge of the city of Fujisawa’s ambient legend—Chihei Hatakeyama—I got recommended Tobira Records’s page which had reposted this calming, yet dancy collection of tunes.

もともと新しいアンビエントアーティストを探してたが、 畠山地平のTwitterアカウントをフォローしたら サイトに兵庫ラベル「Tobira Records」を勧めてもらいました。 そこのページのおかげで、Jascha Hagenのダンスリズムと アンビエントの組み合わせアルバムの発見できました。
